    They mentioned in Yaeger that you could go to the AICPA website and get access to the research database to practice research SIMS and it's free with an NTS. Does anyone know where to find this on the website? I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find it.

    @RedRage

    Go to the this link – https://www.aicpa.org/BecomeACPA/CPAExam/ForCandidates/HowToPrepare/Pages/literature.aspx

    Near the bottom of the page, it says “click on to subscribe”. Click on this and fill out the form that comes up. I received the email confirming I had access to the research within a day.

I honestly don't think I passed, but I do think I know what I need to do to pass the next go around. Can't think about that now though BEC is scheduled for August 26 gitta get going on that one!

    Hey everyone! New to the board, but looking forward to discussing/complaining about the CPA exam with y'all!

    My first section, being FAR, is on July 15th, and I'm afraid I'm not studying like I should be for this thing. I just graduated from college in May, and took my two upper accounting classes in the fall/spring semesters of my senior year, so a lot of this stuff seems fresh (or at least I hope so!).

    I'm using Becker and was just wondering if I should be attempting to memorize every little thing that's presented in here. I'm pretty sure I'll be failing the first time around on this, but was just wondering how in-depth I should get when memorizing stuff from the book.

    I'm working on the MC too. The TBS are kicking my butt, though, for the most part. This should be an interesting exam.

    Welcome Avalanche! With FAR there is a lot of memorization, but what's important is to know the concepts and how they work, instead of memorizing. Have you completed all lectures/assigned MCQs? Good luck on your first exam! I take FAR the 13th ehhh

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

    Thanks Peanut!

    I did all the required lectures and MCQs–the two sections per week as required by the Becker online course. Now I'm just re-doing one section every day, complete with all of its MCQs and TBS, and then re-reading all of the previous sections I've already looked over, including the one I had studied that day.

    I'm still a tad nervous, though!

    Good luck to you on your exam as well! You'll have to let me know how you felt you did!

    I know how you feel avalanche I am taking first exam FAR 7/12 and am getting nervous too. Don't think that you will fail. You need to believe that you will pass even if in the back of your mind you may not believe so. I am not that confident but I feel I have studied a lot and I have put in the time and effort that is required to pass.

    Me personally, I am going through each section and then the final few days reviewing three chapters a day just to keep the material fresh. I try to do all the multiple choice questions, but haven't been able to get through all of them.

    My advice is to practice the sims as much as you can. 40% of the test is sims and you need to be able to eek out at least 20-30% on them. I have been doings sims like crazy because while doing the sims it may make the material you went over stick and become more clear.

    Good luck on your test, I certainly feel your pain.

    This forum has been pretty helpful since I decided to undertake this craziness last January; this is also my first post. I started studying for FAR last January and waited until April to take the exam. It was my first exam, so maybe it could have been nerves, but i really felt like I put in the time. I work 45+ hours a week, my weekends are non existent, and I try and study during the week but it is just plain awful. I pulled a 72 on FAR for my first exam, and it was devastating. I honestly feel like I couldn't have put more work into it. I have the Becker material, and I took the classes. I feel like I understand everything when I am going through it, but when it comes down to putting it all together, I can't seem to recall it all. It is almost like my brian is at capacity with recall and I do some questions almost subconsciously.

    I almost feel like I should read it all through once, and just do MCQ's for a straight month. I've never been amazing at taking tests, but I am by far not the worst. I am a week out from taking my REG exam, and I am wondering what everyone's one week out routine is, maybe it will help me get over the hump.

    I start studying FAR today. I am going to read the book and take extensive notes but I wanted to get advice on something first. Should I read chapter 1 and take notes then to the chapter 1 MCQ or should I read and take notes on all the chapters and the do the MCQ. I see advantages and disadvantages to both. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    akb – Doing all of Chapter 1 at the same time has worked for me in the past. I've done the other way, doing the MCQ all at the same time, and it's usually confused me because I couldn't “compartmentalize” each chapter as well.

    Does anyone know if you receive partial credit for the research question if e.g. you get some of the numbers right? I am studying for FAR, and I am concerned with the research part of the exam.

    Thanks

    @Harry

    This doesn't really answer your question, I saw a video a while back where Roger Philip made a comment that the research question was worth “one point” and that it should be skipped if you came down to the wire. I would think it's all or nothing, but that's only speculation on my part.
