hilaryh_88MemberI am preparing to take FAR for the sixth time, yes sixth. It is the last test I must pass. Since switching to Yaeger/Wiley from Becker I have gotten in the low 70s but just can't seem to do enough to get that magic 75. Any tips? I'm getting Yaeger CRAM. I'm retaking it again in one month or else I lose my AUD. Has anyone ever used Yaeger CRAM?

ROACHMember@hilaryh,
Did you recently switch to Yaeger or is this the 6th time you're taking FAR with Yaeger? If Becker worked for you for the other exam, why not stick with it? Or use a combination of both.

I used Becker my first two attempts and got in the 60s. Since switching to Yaeger for attempts 3-5 I have gotten a 70,71, and 74 so I thought I should stick with Yaeger. I have the CRAM on its way. I hope that helps.AUD - 82 Becker

Yaeger and Yaeger CRAM for the final battle!June 23, 2011 at 5:48 pm #375056
ahgandarParticipantHi everyone,
Is there anyway to pass the new 2011 CPA exam format? I passed REG (in Nov 2009), AUD, and BEC in 2010, and took FAR twice this year and failed both times with a 64 and a 70. These two failures resulted in me losing credit for REG. So now instead of having only 1 exam to go, I now have 2. This is very discouraging and I cannot seem to figure out how to pass the 2011 exam, especially since sims are now worth 40%.
Any suggestions on how to get over this hump? I have been using Becker for all of my exams, but should I try some other study course? Thanks

hilaryh_88Memberahgandar – I'm with you. I passed my other 3 in the old format and have now taken FAR in both the old and new format and can't seem to get that magic 75. I actually liked the old format because my strongest suit was the essay questions and now I don't have that area to get points with. I'm sorry I don't have better advice, but it has to be possible! I've gotten a 74.

I see. I hope you pass this time around. I haven't taken any of the exams yet and I'm in the process of shopping around for a review guide. I was thinking Yaeger since I have some old Becker stuff from a friend. How much did CRAM cost for FAR?

HerbieherbParticipantHillary, go over all the sample problems in the Yaeger hand outs. They seem to resemble what simulation questions might.look like. I got the cram and used them as audio lectures. Tape record them.and listen to all.that glorius content while driving, before bed etc. After a few times listening the concepts really stick. Make flash cards of every kind of journal entry imgaginable.

MOMCPA2BParticipantThere is one trick you can try to help you. I do this through out the day anywhere, so in the car or at work. I pull out a question and I answer it. Maybe not right away. I think about it for a moment if I have to. The reason for this is that, when you are in study mode you study and you may do really well on the MCQ's. However, how much have you really retained? If during the day you can pull out a question and work your way through it under different conditions then, more than likely you know the material. Try it. Find a friend and ask them for a favor. Give them some questions and tell them, through out the day at anytime send me a question via text or email. Then answer it. What you will be doing is condition yourself to answer question under different conditions but forcing the mind to pull the information. Dont use a flash card because your not studying you are conditioning your mind to think through without assitance. You would be surprised what you know and what you dont really know. It helps.
I cant wait for this to be over.

rowingOCParticipantI just passed FAR this window and I was not 100% comfortable with the material and I was not confident on my sims. But I did pass and here is my advice:
DO THE SIMS. I had two sims that required both journal entries and calculations and I had NO clue how to do the calculations. I did, however, put in the journal entry part, which I did know. I fully believe that it was these “gimme” points that put me over the top.
Additionally, I did all the questions in Becker twice. Once the first time through, then once as a review. Even though I still struggled with some of them both times, if nothing else it taught me to step away from the math part of the problem and get into the logic part. Even if you can't remember the formula, use common sense to see what answers can be eliminated. That way you can at least narrow it down.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

HalfwayCPAParticipantI posted this on the REG board maybe someone will be interested here.
I recently passed FAR after failing it last window with a 74 Briefly this is what I did
I used Yaeger homestudy and took very detailed notes ( writing FC next to important points). Yaeger worked for me though Phil can be very annoying at times but Cindy is my idol!
I felt like I retained the material best if I did the MC's and sims soon after watching the lecture for that Module. After I worked the MC's on scrap paper, I would write a summary of each solution on a small post-it and stick it directly over that question. (This helped me when I was reviewing the material, I could quickly review the problem then look at the post-it and instantly remember exactly how i solved it, in my own words or example).
After watching all the videos and doing all the problems I went thru my notes and made flashcards of every important point or journal entries I had noted with a FC. ( I like studying using flashcards it forces you to memorize the info and unfortunately thats what we have to do)
I also did the problems in the back of the Wiley book and used the Wiley test bank. For Mods that I was weak in I watched the lectures again. I know this is time consuming but that's all it is, if you put the time in it all starts to come together.
Remember during the exam to watch the dates, and make sure you know what they are asking because I remember screwing up a ton of question because of that. Good luck to you, I have AUD and REG ahead of me now.
