I have had the hardest time studying for FAR. I finally finished F5 and went back to to a progress test of F1-F5 and completely freaked out when i couldn't remember most of the stuff from prior chapter. Anyone finding themselves in this predicament or any tips?

    REG - 89
    FAR -66,73, 80
    AUD - 84
    BEC -67. 80

I had the same problems for the sections that I took. I had to re-write notes on top of the notes I have taken once before. It is very time consuming but the notes will save your energy and time during the final review. Pamdo, did you have similar problems for Reg? You did well on Reg. I would not worry too much since you are only half way through. What review material are you using?

what i should be doing right now of course is drilling mcq's — ive studied so so very much, i have 4 days left before i take my first section ever– FAR– and im getting more nervous by the hour…..i don't like my grades on the wiley and gleim tests–they're heinous–35 to 70, i've done 2 practice sims…….

can any of you kind wise posters advise on how to approach 4 full days of cramming—at the library vs. at home? only mcq's or practice more SIMS? review yaeger sections then re-test? eat salmon and blueberries? prayer? intravenous coffee?

    feeling a bit desperate…………….

everytime i start studying i get overwhelmed and psych myself out. i have not idea what to do at this point. I want to try to take it by the 21st but i don't know if thats going to happen and i need to schedule it soon but i don't want to rush the studying either.

for REG i was freaking out too but i was more comfortable with it because im in tax so i would visualize the return and the things I've worked on. it came a lot easier.

Im using becker. but i have hear that many people need more for FAR

pamdo, keep going and give yourself 2 weeks to let the information settle. For me, I don't remember much if at all when I get overloaded. I take small breaks, eat, and sometimes read stuff outloud. Govt and N-f-P took me longer time than others. If you are comfortable with them, you will even have more time for final review.

Futurevalue, it is normal to feel stressed in the final week(s). Try not to look at the score as the prediction of your real score. Use it to learn as much as you can before the big day. I would take 2 days to review key concepts and weak areas.

Thanks ToCPA2011—i took this week off from work to cram & focus on weak areas—the encouragement means a lot in these lonely FAR filled hours!

FAR in less than 2 weeks! AHHH I definitely know what yall mean about getting overwhelmed. Has anyone feel like this has been more of an emotional roller coaster than anything else? I'm going through the lectures the second time around and feel like im actually GETTING the concept and understanding why this is being debited and that is being credited but all that confidence comes crashing down when i run into these MCQ and seeing the LOADS of other material i need to re-learn. One chapter goes in the brain, the other goes out. Gotta stay focused. gl everyone.

CPAdriven: I would say most of us have the same experience while we are in the process. I would review the old material everyday or whenever I can. That will help.

futurevalue: Good luck on your exam. Let us know how it went.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum but felt driven to join as a result of my FAR experience. I passed REG and AUD this summer and have been studying for FAR for about 2 months. I found myself, apparently like everyone else, feeling unprepared and very overwhelmed with the material. I had finally gained a little confidence as I went into the exam yesterday. The first set of MC were a breeze! I was so excited and I actually started to think I had overstudied. Then came the second set of MC. OMG!!! What a complete 180 from the first set. The third set was not as difficult but definitely harder than the second, so I don't know if that means I did well or not. Then I had the same experience with the sims. The first 4 were, well, not easy, but definitely not difficult…and then there was the last three. (sigh) I didn't even finish 2 of them completely because I ran out of time. I'm sort of amazed at the difficulty of some of these questions. I've been in public accounting for 7 years (private for 8 before then) so I've been exposed to a lot, which helps, but ‘they' say you are tested on basic material that accountants should know or something to that effect. Are you kidding??? This is definitely not basic. Sorry for venting but I found some comfort in discovering that others have had the same experience I did, so I thought I would share. I was also wondering if anyone who has taken this test multiple times if they feel it has gotten harder or if its always been this hard. Best wishes to everyone!

I am in the same boat, I don't know if it is because this might be my last one, but I think is a lot of material and I am so tired. I already finished all the chapters so now I am starting to review. For me the lectures help a lot, so what I do is listen to them on my car on my way to work and back home, since my commute is so long. I think it helps me remember if I listen to it many times. Doing lots of MCQs and mixing the chapters. And of course going over the highlighted information and looking at all the examples on the book. My worst are is Chapter 5 on Becker, leases and Bonds, they are a nightmare, I get confused a lot. Any suggestions in this area?

Is Becker serious about this? Jeez they want you to have a topic down before you move onto the next but give you a day inbetween to do all the questions and review flashcards. I paid for the live courses figuring I need all the help I can get, but those are extrememely frustrating because the professor goes AS FAST AS POSSIBLE! Especially in the area of FAR I like to slow it down and bit and rewind (excuse the 90's terminology) what I don't get.

I just feel like what I'm doing is inefficient because I'm just mindlessly sitting through these four hour lectures and jotting down everything without thinking about it! THEN reading the book, THEN trying the MCQs once and moving on.

Has anyone stuck to their study plan? I'm not taking FAR until Jan so I have time, how much do you think I should spend on each chapter? and should I take a week for progress tests?

Ugggh I just hate not knowing! And the funny thing is FAR is so finicky. A friend of mine took it and said she literally was just guessing at most of the questions and she passed with a 76.

    Any Becker users hear me?

@HustlinHustlin: I feel the same way, but I am not doing the live classes, I feel have to go at my own time. What helps me is I read the book first so at least I have an idea of what they are talking about and then I do the lecture and the MCQs. It is still frustrating because some chapters are really hard, i feel I get them but then I do so bad on the MCQs, like chapter 5. I am seating on Novemeber 22, and i am starting to review all the chapters now and try to do as many progress tests as possible. I need to memorize all the IFRS info. and get really good at the JE, since I heard they are heavily tested.

I have been studying since beginning of october and I do follow my plan. But I have to be honest I felt better for the other parts. What i try to do is make sure why I did wrong the question and then move on, there is not much time.

I'm also using Becker but just the self study. I actually quit listening to the lectures because I felt like all they were doing was telling me what to highlight and it ended up being 80% of the material anyway. The biggest problem I had was being able to remember the material by the time I had gone through all the other chapters, but I think you just have to commit extra time to this section. By the third time going through the material, I was able to remember. Plus I took three straight days for review right before the exam and that really helped. Just make sure you fully understand the calculations. I thought the Becker MC were really difficult in certain areas and so I would not get too frustrated if you are getting a lot of them wrong. I will say that I thought Becker came up a bit short in certain areas, but maybe (hopefully) those were pretest questions!
