ExBig4 BumMember@kristen1479 FAR is such a beast that if anything as it gets closer perhaps you can reschedule and just give yourself an extra 10days or so if you need it
passed FAR&AUD in 2008 (expired)
passed REG & BEC in 2010 (but lost credit for FAR & AUD)
took FAR 5/31/11. sched AUD 8/31/11
i have no job (by choice). i am a BUM.June 15, 2011 at 4:18 pm #375024
ToshaParticipantStudying for FAR is going slowly for me as well. I take it on July 7th and I'm only on chapter 4. Ugh. I need my motivation back!!
AUD: 2/12/2011: 84
REG: 4/4/2011: 82
BEC: 5/9/2011: 78
FAR: 7/7/2011: 75June 15, 2011 at 6:43 pm #375025
kristen1479ParticipantI would push the date back, but July 1st is the last date on my NTS. I figure I can just go into it expecting to retake it, and maybe I'll get lucky and tested on my strongest areas. Probably unlikely, but I figure I owe it to my exam fees to at least attempt it, ready or not.
Really sucks though. I am still way behind and not really catching up.
BEC- 73, 73, 80
REG- 74, 83
FAR- 50(didn't study), 76 (<--How the heck did that happen?)
AUD- 71, 71, 79!!!!!
Finished!!June 17, 2011 at 1:08 pm #375026
SherridMemberI still haven't received my scores for BEC and AUD from the April-May testing window. When I went to schedule for FAR,
AUD, BEC, and REG were grayed out. I think it's possible that the scores haven't been released and that's why I can only apply for a NTS for FAR.
AUD- 75, 11/30/10 – EXPIRED Retake 4/18
REG- 81,1/31/12
BEC waiting 5/26
FAR not scheduled
These exams really are a p in the a

CPA_DallasMemberI'm really really scared!!! I dont know if I'll pass it. I'm taking FAR in October and using Becker videos and passmaster to study. I'm a wife, full time employee, and studying for this crap. I dont have enough hours to do everything. 🙁 Can someone please tell me how they tested GAAP vs IFRS? Do I need to memorize the differences? Did they test heavily on IFRS? Did 4 hours make anyone tired, and is that the reason people are not doing well on SIMS cuz they are doing it at the end? Do I have a option to do SIMS first? I heard 4 hrs wasn't enough for a lot of people to finish the exam? If I just watch the becker videos and do problems in passmaster, do you think I'll be ok? I'm on F2 right now in the becker, and i already find material really tough. 🙁 Does it get worse?

kb24ParticipantYou do need to know the differences between IFRS and GAAP. Becker has a nice summary at the end of each section. I followed Becker's suggestion of learning GAAP first and then studying the differences between the two, and it worked well for me.
FAR is exhausting, but I think the main reason people don't finish is that they run out of time. Most of the problems require calculations instead of being just theory so they take longer. The best way to get thru the exam is to set a schedule and stick to it. You have to do the SIMS last so make sure you allow enough time for them. I'd recommend at least 1 1/4 hours and preferably 1 1/2. Work backwards from this to determine how much time to allow for each testlet remembering the first one is probably going to be the easiest. Stick to this schedule no matter what. If you're stuck on a MCQ move on, and come back to it after you finish everything else. If you still don't know the answer and don't have any spare time, make your best guess and move on. It's better to miss a MCQ (which may be one of the 20% that don't count) and have enough time for the SIMS.
I used the Becker and Wiley texts but not the Becker videos so I can't answer your question as to whether they and the Passmaster questions are enough. You do need to thoroughly know the material. I liked the Becker text better than Wiley but preferred the Wiley problems because they were tougher. I used the Wiley test bank as well and felt that it really helped me both learn the material and improve my speed.
You have a lot on your plate, but you do have enough time if you study effectively and stick to a schedule. Look through this thread and others asking for study tips for FAR for ideas that might be helpful.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your studies.

AnonymousInactiveI'm new in here. I like this forum and these information are really useful. Im gonna take a FAR in October 2011. I just began to study last week. I'm from Mongolia and a full time MBA student. I live in campus and work 4 hours a day in Campus store. My English is not perfect as like a natural. When I studying I have to use dictionary to find the meaning of the some words. So, I planing to study more than normal hours people did because of that. How many hours did you guys study normally for FAR? And please give me some advice.

KERI0323ParticipantIt's definitely fair game. It started to get phased in in January 2011 and will gradually increase over time. No one is really able to give you a reliable estimate of quantity of questions though and 3-4 quarters may have even more than 1-2 quarters.

mnCPAwannabeMemberTry to get as many calculations down as you can such as pensions or like-kind exchanges. It was my experience (though obviously not all are the same) that memorized formulas/equations got me through easily over half the questions. FAR had by far the lowest number of qualitative questions for me.
Expect plenty of IFRS on your exam. I tested for FAR in April and I had about 8 MC pertaining to FAR plus an entire simulation. Only one of the IFRS questions was in my first testlet so I'm hoping they came later because it was getting more “difficult”. Either way, expect the number of IFRS questions to go up every quarter.

RedRage00MemberI'm using Yaeger Home Study for FAR. This is my first time sitting for any section of the CPA exam so I'll see how it goes. I am using Jeff's advice and watching all the videos first while taking notes. It took a while to get through all 51 hours of lecture videos but I finally finished them last night. Now I'm going to attack MCQs and take more notes on them. Instead of doing all the MCQ from one chapter before moving to the next I'm going to take blocks of questions from each module. For Example: tonight I may do 5 (or however many) MCQ from each module instead of doing all 50 or whatever for one chapter….I figured that way I wouldn't forget anything that I studied earlier…if that makes sense. I think Cindy and Phil did a pretty good overview with the lectures.

nszucsParticipantI just wanted to give a few notes on my FAR experience. I just recently fund out I passed! NTS 448 OH. I used Becker for a majority of my studying mostly because the firm I work for paid for it. I started studying back in January starting with the lectures, taking notes in the book during the lectures, reading the book, and then doing the homework. It was very time consuming but gave me a good start. I found that the Becker lectures are quire terrible. They are really very bad… highlight this, circle that and look at this. So I decided to supplement them with the Roger cram. I took very detailed, almost word by word notes while I watched the Roger videos (lots of playing/pausing, took about 40 hours to do). Then I worked through Becker's Final Exams which were really good. They were harder than the real thing but really prepared me for it. I ended up scoring a 78 on the last Becker “Final Exam.” All in all, the Becker product is not worth the money. It is good for multiple choice questions, final exam and decent text book content. Becker stinks, and I mean completely stinks at lectures. Roger's lectures are very easy to listen to, and you can even learn from just listening to them. I actually recorded my Roger lectures onto my iPod and listened to them in the car on the way to work.
All in all I probably overstudied for FAR. I put roughly 400+ hours into watching lectures, lots of hand written notes and did almost 2,000 multiple choice questions. Glad to be done with it!!! Just 2 more to go…
