    jpowell,

    You are SOOOO close. I completely understand the feeling of giving up – but I have to take you to task about the “this is the best time of your life.” NO – the best time of your life will be when your friends and family all celebrate with you when you pass this darn thing! And then it will be when you can put CPA after your name. And after that the best time of your life will be the next step of your life…

    You need to take several hours today and let your brain rest. You are starting to spin around like a top and making yourself more anxious – heck, you're making me anxious for you 🙂 Breathe – in with the good air – out with the bad air…repeat 10 times. Stand up straight and stretch until you touch the sky with your hands.

    It's just a test. It's just a test. It's just 90 multiple choice questions and some sims. Don't make it into a monster. 4 little hours out of your entire life. Oh, and take some magnesium capsules and some green tea. And give yourself a big hug – you've already accomplished so much!

    AUD 88 (expired), 80 retake
    FAR 64,69,67,73,67,73,73,73, August 3
    REG 75 (expired) September 7
    BEC 72, 77

    The adventure continues...

    @CPA50… well said…

    @jpowelll…..yes, this processes is definitely frustrating but give it your all for 3 more days and you'll be finished….

    So I took the second becker practice exam.. I think I scored about a 73% which is making me madd..i'm so close. I slipped up on a few questions that I should have known and then there were other questions that were just phrased in a way that was utterly confusing. I mean I know the material pretty well but sometimes its hard to identify.

    I think a part of me is just so tired of seeing this material that my mind is numb…

    I (WE) just gotta keep doing MCQs to see these questions phrased and asked in multiple formats. Hopefully I can do enough to get the pass.

    Been doing this for 2.5 yrs now.. I wasn't an ACCT major so I spent about 12 months getting enough credits to just sit for this exam. I'm 32 now and I want to be done so I can go back to my family and friends….

    Not to mention my MBA classes start a week after this exam lol. I hope to finish the degree that by next summer (I actually was halfway done then I switched gears to get the CPA).

    But I DO want to be in accounting, I see business potential/opportunities everywhere… and honesty no matter what you do in the business world Accounting is at the center of it all. You will benefit greatly by having the CPA even if you don't directly work as an “accountant.”

    thanks for the support guys..i'm in it to win it the next 3 days but it easy to get discouraged and think about the “what if i fail” scenario when i'm seeing questions that i know are easy and were easy just a week ago and are like freaking chinese now..it's like i was zapped. progress tests are helping at the fact that i'm out of the lease/bonds area i'll be better. it's all luck, though. i know i can nail an exam. but i also know that feeling of walking in (more than once) saying as long as i don't see this….and getting 10 MCQ plus 2 SIMs on the topic. i feel like i make so many mistakes that's all i have space for.

    i know memories and life will continue to be great.. i just feel like my whole life has been studying for something…. i just want to know what it's like to be focused on ONE thing and have all the time otherwise to do whatever i want (and afford it, since college was one thing, sure….but i was BROKE lol).

    i just did a bunch of errands listening to audio and made time to buy a new thing for myself and to get a smoothie and coffee outside and feel much better. ready to kill this into the night.

    here's to hoping we're done with this after this week @hopeful and @DC!!! and to jstay and CPA50 – don't let stories like ours dishearten you – having this forum here from your first exam is a great start, trust me. the people i know around me sitting this exam were/are in completely different situations and i was always just used to being smart and getting things done and underestimated it. it's not going to kill you, you just gotta know your groove and make time for yourself (and others around you ). it's actually a good way to test yourself and relationships to be honest. and jstay i know you're at about the same level if not better in your review than i am and you still got weeks left! you will nail this! first time high passers usually pick up the momentum they need to stay on that path so you both will do great.

    and intercompany eliminations………. i KNOW…we need some light to shine down on us…and NY on thursday 🙂

    in the allowance method versus direct write off method: can someone please explain why “weakness of direct write off is that AR is always overstated”

    for allowance i know the entries are:

    dr. bad debt exp

    cr. allowance for doubtful accounts

    dr. allowance for doubtful accounts

    cr. AR

    and for direct write off:

    dr. bad debt exp

    cr. AR

    what's considered difficult SIM? Unadjusted trial balance? Dollar value lifo? Or just any sim with a lot of information?

    @hopeful i think it's because AR includes amounts that should be included in bad debt. they should include an allowance if they know it's unlikely they won't be getting that (money)

    @Anna take your pick! it's anything you don't feel prepared for essentially. the ones with a lot of information are pretty bad because it takes time to understand what they're looking for and you have to navigate between the split screens and crappy spreadsheet tools….etc. time waster. they can also ask for more than one topic on one question

    Oh I think I should maybe try that sample test. I hate split screen, I wish this thing was on paper

    @zcpa nope…i live overseas and had a free flight to NY that was going to expire this summer (was hoping i'd use it for vacation but oh well!) i have a bunch of friends that will be in town this weekend celebrating one of them leaving for a new job in switzerland so it just worked out.

    i've sat in miami, tampa, philly and boston… tampa was the best so far because of the location in terms of being from out of town (hotel/mall/restarants/prometric next to each other within 15 mins of airport and no waiting to go into test) miami = nightmare.

    @anna

    just to name a couple… do a Treasury Stock one with both par/ cost options….compenstatory stock options, Deferred Taxes which ask you to also do the JE for the Tax recognition in OCI… becker has two really hard Stmt of Cash flows ones and also a Net Periodic Pension Cost one… how about doing an installment or % completion one with various gross profits year to year or % completions, which change the total costs over time……prior period adjustments or corrections with tax effects of changes in accounting principal…oh a really good one would be to do a step acquisition SIM… maybe do a translation or remeasurement one or foreign currency transactions with various rates and amounts…

    just a few
