Lucky for me, my Prometric center was open today after being closed for 3 days due to the hurricane. At first, I was hoping they’d be open on my test day. While my wish came true, I now wish they were closed. This test was a nightmare. I’ve gone over EVERYTHING in the Wiley book and everything Phil Yaeger highlighted. About 70% of the material I painstakingly studied were not on the freakin’ test!! I had to stop for a moment to wonder if I was even taking the right exam. About half of my multiple choice questions came out of left field. However, my Simulations weren’t so bad, which is something not many people here said. It was the mutiple choice that I found difficult. And I don’t even know if the testlets got harder. All 3 Multiple Choice testlets were extremely hard, IMHO. I’m so screwed. Here I was studying for 300 hours and I’m probably going to end up with a nice big fat 50!!! I’m so depressed. I don’t understand why the CPA exam is like this. It’s supposed to be on material that’s covered in the Wiley book. But it looks like they are testing on material that Wiley and Yaeger didn’t even cover.

In order to pass this, I’d either have to be one heck of a lucky guy or there’s going to be a nice big curve. But I seriously doubt this will happen. So, I’m expecting to have to retake REG. I’m at a loss for words right now. I don’t even know if any additional studying would’ve helped. I’m so annoyed. This is ridiculous!!

Sorry, I just had to vent.

For some crazy reason, I felt like AUD was harder than FAR and REG. I am very anxious to get scores. Ugh.

Took REG today…I used Yaeger, Yaeger Cram, Wiley TB, NINJA notes, and Becker 2010 for the business law portion.

There wasn't one question that I hadn't seen in some form before. Nothing out of the oridinary jumped out at me, and I wasn't shocked by anything. Of all the tools I used, I think the Wiley TB was the most useful. I think Yaeger was right on with Dr. Phil's approach…not suprised he's gonna push the Wiley TB more.

Overall, I thought it was more straight forward than BEC (which I took last year). My downfall was the Sims, but I was expecting that going in.

When I re-study for it I'm going to go over the Sims in the Wiley text, I think they will really help in driving home each of the modules. I didn't do that this time, and should have. I gave myself about 1:30 for the sims, which would've been more than enough time if I had been a little more prepared. I didn't flag any MCQ's and didn't review any testlets (probably not the best approach).

Overall it was an excellent trial run and I really enjoyed taking it (weird I know). I'm looking forward to my rematch at the end of November. But then again, maybe pigs can fly and my worst sim was a pretest.

Starting AUD tomorrow…with a new and improved structured study plan 🙂 Gonna write out notes and recopy them this time around, that makes so much sense now.

    BEC - 77 (exp. 2/23/12)
    REG - 75
    AUD - 10/12/11
    FAR - 11/30/11

@khachik2003- Look at MAcc Grad_NDSU's post above. Now THAT is how I should've felt after I walked out of the exam room. I know for a fact that MAcc is going to pass because that's the right attitude to have. If you knew what you were doing throughout the exam, you will walk out feeling good and will know in your heart that you passed. When I took REG, half of the MCQs were complete guesses. Not good!!!

I obviously don't feel as good with REG as I did with FAR and AUD. But I ended up with high 80s on those 2. So, let's hope I get at least a 75 on REG. If I do pass, it will most likely be in the high 70s, but even that would take a lot of praying.

I walked out of REG this last time feeling i had failed miserably…actually every time i walked out of REG…and I passed it all three times. I just can't seem to get AUD or BEC out of my way!! So I say leave it at the test center. I've been taking this exam since 2007. I had a break in there because I thought I was done, that I could live without getting it. And now I”m back on the horse since Oct 2010…and I”m 50% there. Don't beat yourself up…you did what you could do and if you passed it awesome and if you failed don't give up!!!

    REG-80, 77, 77
    BEC-67, 68, 71, 67, 71, 74, 71, 74, 72, 77
FAR- 72, 65,67, 53, 75 (truth be known the 53 was with 4 hours of studying)
    AUD-58, 62, 72, 74, 74, 75
took 5 years but I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@eeptrying- I'm sorry to hear about you losing credit for REG twice. That must hurt. I admire the strength you have. You never gave up and that's what really matters here. If I don't pass REG and BEC by Dec 2012, I lose BOTH FAR and AUD, which will hurt me badly. That may sound like a long time, but when you think about it, I only have 5 more chances to pass REG in the event I failed.

    @CPAMan

You're think that MAcc passed because of the MCQ, but he doesn't think so because of how he felt about the SIMS so it's anybody's guess.

Not that it means much, but I had very similar feelings to yours after my REG exam. I had to come back to the first two MCQ on the first testlet because I had no clue what they were asking when I first looked at them. While it did get better, I was much more unsure about the MCQ than I was with any of the other exams. I couldn't tell if the testlets were getting harder because the first one was so tough. And then there were the SIMS–mine weren't as totally horrible but they were far worse than any of my other exams. After each of the other exams I was pretty confident I'd passed, but I had no idea after REG. I thought my chances were 50/50 depending on which ones were test questions. As time passed I became more and more convinced I'd failed because all I remembered were the questions I didn't know. REG scores were released on a Thursday but I had to wait until Monday morning for TX to post them. By this point I was so sure I failed that I started studying again over the weekend. I know the next few weeks are going to be tough for you, but try not to beat up on yourself too much because you may have done better than you expect. Good luck to you.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

@kb24- Thanks! Your experience is practically identical to mine so I guess there may be some hope for me. You just never know. As for the REG Sims, while they weren't easy, I still thought they were A LOT better than my AUD Sims. My AUD Sims were crazy and I pretty much guessed all of it. But since I did well on the MCQs, that explains my 87. So for anyone that felt good about their REG MCQs but felt horrible on the Sims has a much better chance of passing because I think the MCQs are worth a lot more than 60 points. That's just how I feel after my experience with AUD.

I guess I panic because I see some people that are saying…. “Testlet 1 was easy, but Testlets 2 and 3 were hard.”

And some others are saying… “My exam questions were on topics that Yaeger covered and I felt good about how I did.”

My feelings are the exact opposite. Testlet 1 was not easy and I got questions on obscure topics. Very odd!!

    CPA Man

I forgot to add that on my performance report I was stronger in every category except one, stronger on the MCQ, and comparable on the SIMS so I apparently did better on the MCQ than I thought.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

Odd! When I passed FAR and AUD, I didn't get a performance report. I only got them when I failed.

But wow, unless my gut instinct was good the other day, I'm not expecting good results for REG. Usually when I think I did bad, I do bad! I'm not one of those smart people that exaggerate by saying, “oh I failed”, but then end up with a 90. Usually when I'm guessing through half the exam, it's not good. If this were to happen in Testlets 2 and 3, then yes, I probably would be fine. But the fact that I had trouble in Testlet 1 is not a good sign.

Yeah, that sucks, CPAMan; you probably failed horrendously. Do you feel like you've let yourself down by bombing a part of the CPA exam? Are you going to keep studying in the meanwhile since you probably didn't even get above a 50? I mean, why let that information out of your head when you're gonna have to retake it again, right?

wow BaseballCPA…I don't even know how to feel about your post…I'm hoping that's sarcasm…

No, not really. I'm just sick of listening to this guy piss and moan about how he “failed” the CPA exam. People continuously come back and try to assuage his unsure feelings towards the exam and that he probably did better than he thought. Yet, he keeps coming back and saying, “nope, when I THINK I do poorly, I end up doing very poorly”. So instead of pandering to what he wants (i.e. a continuous stream of soothing pats on the shoulder), I'm supporting the idea that he's perpetuating (that he failed the exam). Since he feels like he bombed it, maybe he did…so maybe he should keep studying in the interim instead of waiting for the scores to be released.

I'm all for supporting people when they need it…especially during the CPA exam journey that we all have to go through. But one thing is to vent about how you felt really bad about the exam and that you think you failed it, but it's another thing to “vent” about it 7 times. Especially when people are telling you to relax, that you probably did fine, etc. It's like when the prom queen complains to her friends that she's too fat or too ugly. She's obviously a 10…what's she complaining for?? Now, myself nor anyone else in this thread is guaranteeing that he passed the exam, but given what he's said about how he studied combined with our own personal experiences in studying/taking the exam, we're just trying to tell him that he probably did better than he thought…we all feel like we just spent a night on the beaches of Normandy on June 6th, 1944 after walking out of the testing center…it's completely normal to feel shellshocked.

I'm with CPAman on this one.

Get your score first and then complain. If you feel you did that poorly, then just schedule it again and start studying. This isn't a life or death situation here.
