Took REG today. It was a nightmare!!! - Page 5

Lucky for me, my Prometric center was open today after being closed for 3 days due to the hurricane. At first, I was hoping they’d be open on my test day. While my wish came true, I now wish they were closed. This test was a nightmare. I’ve gone over EVERYTHING in the Wiley book and everything Phil Yaeger highlighted. About 70% of the material I painstakingly studied were not on the freakin’ test!! I had to stop for a moment to wonder if I was even taking the right exam. About half of my multiple choice questions came out of left field. However, my Simulations weren’t so bad, which is something not many people here said. It was the mutiple choice that I found difficult. And I don’t even know if the testlets got harder. All 3 Multiple Choice testlets were extremely hard, IMHO. I’m so screwed. Here I was studying for 300 hours and I’m probably going to end up with a nice big fat 50!!! I’m so depressed. I don’t understand why the CPA exam is like this. It’s supposed to be on material that’s covered in the Wiley book. But it looks like they are testing on material that Wiley and Yaeger didn’t even cover.

In order to pass this, I’d either have to be one heck of a lucky guy or there’s going to be a nice big curve. But I seriously doubt this will happen. So, I’m expecting to have to retake REG. I’m at a loss for words right now. I don’t even know if any additional studying would’ve helped. I’m so annoyed. This is ridiculous!!

Sorry, I just had to vent.

NO !! I just took my third freaking attempt last Monday 🙁 On a happier note I felt a million times more prepared this time around because of Wiley… I was answering the questions on the exam, saying in my head “I love you Wiley I love you Wiley”… Hmm maybe I shouldn't talk to myself so much in my head–I might not be so distracted and failing everything lol

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

Ouch! Things are not looking good for me.

If I fail REG, I'm purchasing the Gleim software. It helped me a lot with FAR and AUD and I think not using it for REG is what killed me. That's an excellent software and I will always highly recommend it.

This is bad. There were a couple of questions I got stuck on after eliminating the choice to 2, giving me a 50/50 shot. I've looked in the Wiley book after the exam and found the correct answer. The problem is… I don't remember what choice I picked!!! Errrr. I was so stumped between those two choices that I just picked one and moved on. It's now all a blur and now I don't know whether I picked the right choice or not. Very frustrating.

Let me just give a little more detail about how everything went. About 1/3 of my MCQs were stuff I studied and I was able to figure it out. But I could've made careless errors and got some of them wrong. About 1/3 of my MCQs were stuff I kind of knew, but wasn't 100% sure. Either I had to eliminate choices to 50/50 and give a guess or I knew the topic, but due to some weird quirk in the question, I kind of got stumped. The last 1/3 of my questions were left field questions where I just had to make educated guesses. Oh wow!!! I don't know what's going to happen. I just hope REG has a more generous curve than FAR. I can only pray!!

CPAMan, you have FABULOUS scores on FAR and AUD, did you feel that you did well on them before you got the actual scores?

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

For FAR, I knew I kicked butt on Testlet 1, but in Testlets 2 and 3, they were nightmares. About half them were guesses. But hey, at least I knew I did well on Testlet 1. I knew I probably got 25 out of 30 questions right in that testlet. The Simulations weren't too bad.

For AUD, all three MCQ testlets were pretty easy. I didn't even notice the testlets getting harder because the questions were easy from beginning to end. But Simulations were completely out of left field, so I pretty much guessed on everything there. If I would've failed AUD, it would've been due to those Sims. So, how I got an 87, I don't know since Sims are worth 40 points. This leads me to believe that the Sims aren't worth as much as the AICPA claims.

For REG, like I said, the MCQs were all over the place from beginning to end. The Sims weren't too bad. They weren't easy, mind you. Just saying they weren't bad. The Research question took a while for me to find, but I believe I found the correct answer. 3 other Sims were on stuff I knew, so I think I did good on those. If anything, I may have made a few minor errors, but nothing too severe. The 2 other Sims, however, were pretty difficult but I did the best I could and I *think* I was able to solve them. But let's hope one of those 2 were pretest. Usually, the most obscure Sim tends to be the pretest one.

@CPAMan I wish you would have all of your exam scores up, because it's really inspiring! Especially to people like me who have had multiple attempts! If you didn't use Gleim this time around, what was your main review source?

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

@CPAMan – I think you should throw your scores up there too. You've had to explain like 4 or 5 times now why you feel a certain way about things or how you know how you did based on how you felt walking out. I think the extra experience on the exams gives you some added credibility as well. You've been through the ringer. Be proud.

@Peanut – You should put your scores up too! lol

One thing I never understood is why I even had to post my previous failing scores to get my point across. Just because I passed FAR and AUD with flying colors doesn't indicate how well I did on REG. That's like saying, just because I'm a champ at hockey, then I should be a champ at soccer. Apples and oranges!!! You're talking about completely different exams with completely different materials.

@CPAMan–well because I was being a pain in the @ss lol. But the scores really are inspiring. I also thought it would shut those people up who were arguing with you saying “you probably passed because you did SO well on the other exams so I don't know why you're complaining” .. which I think it worked 😉

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I should also point out that the reason for my bad scores was because of my lack of effort. Lots of TV and very little studying. With AUD, I barely opened a book and snoozed through my in-class review course because the instructor was booorrrrring!!!! That explains the 47.

REG will my first exam where I will get an awful score after putting in sooooo much study time. I can officially say that REG is worse than FAR.
