AnonymousInactiveTo everyone that is using Becker FAR review, note that the SIMS in any of the sections are not even close to what is going to be on the real thing.
Expect things that they would ask that would give you nightmares because I would think up these crazy situations when they would unnecessarily add certain parts of the question to make it super hard… and you know what THEY DID!!!!
I read some older post that told me to save up 1.5 hours for the sim and I was on my way to do that, but the mcq's got alot harder as I went so I got stuck. Stay on track and take down those sims.
I'm at a point where I'm recalling the questions vividly and what I should have done and what I could have done if it weren't for the time pressure.
I basically finished as I was typing my last entry for paragraph in the research section, the timer ran out as I finished typing the last number, I still remember it was 6…
Well, time to wait for the scores and sort of plan out the next time I'm going to have to take this thing….
til next time guys.

MercyGraceParticipantTime management is also key with FAR. I ran out of time the last go around and made a 72. I'm kicking myself thinking if I only have another couple minutes or so maybe just maybe. Oh well. Lesson learned. Praying this next time is the last time. So tired of this process.
BEC - 75 (Prayed Hard)
AUD - 85 (Thanking God!)
REG - 77 (Yes, Lord!!)
FAR - 4/20/12April 4, 2012 at 10:19 pm #375956
AnonymousInactive@mercyGrace: I know EXACTLY how you feel…it we just had five more minutes…ugh! so depressing to have to go through it all over again. I'm scared this time around. I guess because I was so close to passing the first time. Now I'm worried that I'm going to get questions that I don't thoroughly understand which may possibly result in an even lower score.

I Will PassMemberSo FAR is my first section and I am using Becker. I am stuck on F5 (the bonds section). I feel like I just don't get it, and it is really frustrating. I'm wondering if I should just move on and come back to it in review, or should I stick with it til I understand it. Does anyone have any advice?
F 75
A 76
B 79
R 63, 74, 81!!DONE!

AnonymousInactiveFor bonds, just think of the interest payment as a separate transaction from the bond issuance. I know that helps me. I also used to do bond problems over and over and over even though i didn't understand it. Eventually it clicked. So in conclusion, I feel that you should understand bonds well and a good way to get there is by making up your own problems. The beauty of making up your own problems is that you have to figure out if you have the right answer or not. That may sound flawed but it has not failed me yet.

AnonymousInactive@ I will pass
I am also a finance major and I thought that I was a bond whiz until I did the homework, it was horrible. My advice, finish the rest of the lectures and come back to bonds and make sure you know it inside out and outside in. The exam will ask the question in every way possible, not going back and understanding something is like gambling that AICPA won't ask you that question.
Here's a neat trick, with EIM premium and discount amortization would make interest expense lower and higher respectively each period and bonds mature to the face.
Good luck.

AnonymousInactive@danwelch302 : Good luck tomorrow! You are going to nail it 🙂 If I don't pass FAR this window then I got 1 more chance to pass before I lose Audit. yikes!

AnonymousInactiveHow is the research question in the cpa exam? Does it function like the Wiley Test Bank? I noticed that there is a search within function in the Becker research sim, but there doesn't seem to be one in the Wiley Test Bank. Anyone have tips on solving research sims? I want to make sure I get that one right.

AnonymousInactiveit's like googling something, use quotations to find specific word groups and always read the context of the answer in relation to what is being asked and you should be ok.

AnonymousInactiveFAR was tough, gotta admit. Despite fear of stating the obvious, I think everyone should make use of the spreadsheet function in the SIMS. That was huge for me, and you can also copy and paste data from the informational tabs into the spreadsheet. I also think that they need to improve the spreadsheet so that it is similar to office functionality. I kept hitting ‘enter' and the cell focus never changed, just entered the cell for editing…drove me nuts.

AnonymousInactiveI was practicing sims with excel on Becker. It drove me crazy when I hit enter and it wouldn't go to the next cell. I was doing an amortization schedule and it was annoying that I had to input the formula for each cell instead of using the “fill down” option.
By the way, does anyone use the authoritative literature on sims that weren't a research question?

katieshmadyMemberSo I'm really struggling here on the day before I have to take FAR for the second time… I took a practice exam on Becker and got a 50. I feel like I'm not remembering simple concepts since there's so much information to learn! I don't know if I should postpone my test til May or just take it and hope for the best. Any last minute study tips and tips on how to keep all the information fresh in case I have to retake this beast again???
