    @adman0214

Oh, you're my twin, just a little better…

I lost my BEC on 2/29/12 cause I got 73 on FAR… amazingly sucks cause we either pass FAR and be a CPA or

spending more $$ and time for 2 more exams… and now I am slacking.

    We can do it!!

I didn't finish the whole practice Qs, they're just too many and I really didn't have time, so I focused on Becker final cram book. I guess it helps, just I'm not lucky enough. The questions are tricky, too… I knew a few mistakes right afterward and just saying to myself “stupid me!”

Hi, I just started studying for FAR last week and I am already at a loss looking at the volume of information. I am planning to take the exam 1st week of May. Is 8 weeks enought study time for FAR. My BEC score will expire in July and I do not want to retake that!

Any advice on studying for FAR? I just finished F2 lectures and barely getting MCs right! I feel like I am not retaining any of the information and F1 already seems like a blur even though I did complete all the MCs.

    BEC - 75
    AUD - 80
    REG - 80
    FAR - 67. 82 (Aug 2012)

Generally, 8 weeks are enough. But it depends on your daily/weekly schedule, background, quality time, and commitment.

I know I need at least 200 hours to get the concept in my head. Some genius ones can take 1 week off work and pass FAR with 90s.

@shossain6, they say if you feel like you are falling a little behind then just do the MCQ's and ignore the lectures. You can always re-read the chapter/view a specific lecture. However, I guess following my advice is enough to get you a 74 🙂

@working-hard, I lost both BEC and REG (just re-passed REG), but my issue is I either do really well on the MCQ and bad on the SIM or vice versa. I just need to put together a complete test. Good luck! I am taking FAR 4/20/12, so hopefully that will finally yield a positive result for me!

    REG: Passed,(expired 4/30/11), Passed - 87 (2/29/12)
    BEC: Passed,(expired 2/29/12), Scheduled May 2012
    FAR: 72,74,74(C'MON!), (Schedule 4/20/12)
    AUD: Passed

@working-hard…per the VP of finance at my company. “All you need to do is quickly go over the homework one time and you should get at least a 95 on all tests like I did. I mean, who doesn't pass these tests on the first try?”

Talk about someone making you feel like an idiot…

    REG: Passed,(expired 4/30/11), Passed - 87 (2/29/12)
    BEC: Passed,(expired 2/29/12), Scheduled May 2012
    FAR: 72,74,74(C'MON!), (Schedule 4/20/12)
    AUD: Passed

lol… yup that's similar to suggestions from my friends… simply said, “Take a week off and listen to the lecture twice; do the MCQs, you'll get 90s.”

And the other one said, “just cram them for 2 weeks and take the test!”

And they're talking about FARE (not AUD/BEC).

But from my observations, they're having at least 2 yrs of experience with BIG4 before taking these exams. So…hopefully those experts are still having their busy season till June cause they're not my league 😀

Does anyone know if there is M/C questions or simulations on business combinations for FAR?

Business combinations may be tested in both the mc question format and simulation format.

I am taking advanced financial reporting right now and they are quite ridiculous. Pretty much have to have the information at your fingertip.

    Hello everyone,

I was just reading some previous post about not practicing with the SIMS. However I want to be more familiar with the research simulations and cannot find the free database that Yaeger home study suggested. Does anyone have the link or any other suggestions regarding these task-based simulations?

I honestly wouldn't spend much time practicing the research. If you're a good “Googler,” you'll be fine. I think your time would be better spent studying other areas.

When you're using the Research tab on the exam, the best tools to use are the Topical Index and the Search Within function.

Hey apbandj, thank you for the advice. May I ask how long it took you to prepare for FAR. This is my next exam and it is coming up at the end of April. I still have half of the modules to go =(

I studied for 4 months, but I took several small breaks here and there due to family commitments. I've also been out of school for awhile and had to learn/relearn just about everything. Best of luck to you!

    Hi everyone,

I've been reading everyone's posts so it's somewhat comforting to see that I'm not the only one going through this. As a last resort, I just want to ask if anyone knows of any good and inexpensive SIM study materials? Becker has been pretty awesome with the MCQ's but the SIMS are horrible.

I got a 73 my first attempt at FAR and didn't finish 3 of the SIMS and I only had 40 minutes left when I got to them.

I just failed again in Feb. This time, I left myself with an hour for the SIMS. The SIMS were completely ridiculous as in only one drop down menu SIM and 6 very long, very difficult calculation SIMS. Both of my summary performances said that I was stronger for the MCQ's and weaker for the SIMS so it's obvious what I need to focus on but the SIMS that I got with Becker are weak compared to what I had on both of my exams plus I have completely memorized all of them. I need some SIM help asap. Thanks for any suggestions or advice.

    FAR-10/31/11-73, 02/27/12-70, 04/09/12-70, 07/08/12-89
    AUD-05/29/12-80
    BEC-08/31/12-84
    REG-11/28/12-85
