Scrittrice34MemberHi guys I have a question!
I have FAR scheduled for 2/29. I still have 2 Becker lectures to watch and want to squeeze in the final review before exam day. I have Monday and Tuesday scheduled off. I haven't even touched the sims though.
Does anyone know whether this is a passable exam without practicing the sims and working only the MCQs?
Thanks!

Scrittrice34Member@TooMuchStudying Congrats on your passing score! It is such a great feeling to know that sacrificing your personal appearance (believe me I know) was not in vain. It really gives a boost of confidence to get through the next exam 🙂

Scrittrice34Member@katie Thanks for the input. Good to know. I always feel like I have to go in super prepared but maybe if I just do my best with the time I have I'll be ok. Guess it's either skip the sims or push the exam to April (and I really don't want to do that). haha

HustlinHustlinMemberI'm right there with you. I might give Becker another shot in hopes it will stick a little better this time. I studied for so long and then totally blanked when I got to the exam on every simple computation question.
I once read an inspiring post by a busy mom who really struggled with FAR and passed after switching to Yager CRAM. I think that will be my go-to if Becker fails me again (God forbid)

HustlinHustlinMember@ Scrittrice – I have seen many people pass the exam without practicing the SIMS in their review course, and from those who did I heard they were nothing like the real deal. If you have a good grasp on the material, you will do well on the sims.

mds86Member@ Scrittrice – I have never spent significant time studying the SIMS, though I do make sure to go over at least one from each topic to get my mind ready for them. The more important thing about SIMS is to give yourself enough time to complete them. They are 40% of the possible points. Make sure you give yourself at least 1.5 hours. I gave myself 1 hour and was left with 56 seconds (yes, seconds) to complete the research. I finished “Stronger” in SIMS AND MCQ, but I was paranoid waiting for my score. The SIMS, however, can help you look at topics from a different perspective and can be a handy study tool in general.
For all others – I recommend the becker final review course as it really helped me focus in on the key topics during those final moments of studying. The little booklet is also REALLY good at explaining the tough topics…sometimes ever better than the initial text book. Disclaimer – I haven't used anything except Becker.

AnonymousInactiveTaking FAR on Feb 28th. I had differnt job opportunities come up this month so I was not taking studying seriously because I was on the verge of giving up on the cpa. I found out I passed Aud 2 days ago so now I'm motivated again.
I had studied FAR for about 1 month and was really overwhelmed and switched back to audit when I found out I failed.
Anyways, I have 3-4 days left to study now, I'm gonna go with nonstop multiple choice.
I think I'm going to skip a few topics like pensions and Governmental (perhaps skim them over)
I cant reschedule anyways because my nts expires so I guess I need to get lucky 🙂
If anyone has other ideas of what to do , lmk
anyways Best of luck to those taking it in the next few days

mds86Member@bkkguru – Sounds like you only have a little bit of time to study. I honestly wouldn't select governmental to “skim” over. I think if you're going to skim anything over – you're right – pensions may be the one. It takes time to memorize the pension formulas and journal entries and is only a single topic. However, governmental is GUARANTEED to be a significant portion of your exam (look at the percentages) and is probably the topic that you have the LEAST experience in. The other stuff, you may have a good basis to think them through and select the right answer, but governmental is totally different. I would read the chapters on Gov & NFP thoroughly and take notes and then do some questions. OR, better yet, take some time right away – 1.5 – 2 hrs – to do a full on practice exam (100 MCQs) and see where you're super weak. Drill down on those areas hardcore. That would be your BEST strategy for having limited study time and going in crossing your fingers…or how you put it “luckbox time.” Good luck dude.

AnonymousInactiveI've been taking the Becker FAR course and while I understand the text books, I'm finding a huge disconnect with the multiple choice questions.
I just don't understand how they arrive at the answers for like 50% of the questions.
Is there some type of book or online source that will show me actual explanations for all the Becker FAR questions in my software?
Also, do people spend more time focusing on the bigger concepts (eg. leases, bonds, fixed assets, pensions)?
Thanks!

AnonymousInactive@mds86 Cheers for the helpful response , I have 3 more days left, and yes pensions is out of the questions. I'm going to get on the GOV & NFP tonight. Just wanna get this thing over with and thanks again!
@blahblah I have becker and I thought they do a poor job of showing explanations also. Wiley's software is more in depth in my opinion. As for a source for longer explanations , I don't know about one.
For focusing on bigger concepts, I'm personally going for that and trying to absorb a bit of everything, from reading the forums here, I think some topics are a must for the exam, bonds, basic concepts, investments etc.. If you are short on time just focus on the big things
