    @Joel

I keep seeing people say IFRS is heavily tested. Not sure if that helps. I take my test on 1/14 and I feel so far behind. I still have to finish going back throught the MCQ for L7-9 then do progress reports. I am in major panic mode which isn't helping because it keeps me from sleeping which keeps me from being able to comprehend normal english…

Took FAR today and it did not go well. As usual, wasn't sure how I did on the first part, second test didn't seem harder, and by the third I realized I am probably looking at something in the 50s on my score as my questions are getting much easier. Like do people think puppies are cute? yes or no easy. I kid you not, on the third section I got a Your Beg. Balance is X, You purchased Y, and You paid Z, what is your ending balance….a 4th grader could do that.

If I passed this test I was done. I will now lose REG and AUD again. I am not doing this again for a long time. Maybe by 2013 or 2014 I will be refreshed and feel like trying again, but until then, best of luck to you all.

@ Clintstone…after I took my test last month I thought my 3rd testlet was sooo easy, just like yours. I knew I blew the test since the 3rd testlet was super easy. My score…74. Not passing but not as bad as I thought I did.

I bombed my sims unfortunately. If you did ok on the sims, try not to stress out too much on the difficulty level of your 3rd testlet.

Goodluck! Just wanted to give you a bit of hope to grasp onto. I'm going for round #2 next week. :l

@ hustlinhustlin–keep doing progress exams (full 9 part, 100 question, Becker) until you're consistently in the 90's. Understand why answers and correct and MORE importantly, understand why answers are wrong. Once you redo the hw MCQ's, do the 2 sample exams. Keep reviewing/retaking prior progress exams and sample exams. If you have time, go through the sims another time but I would focus on the other areas first. That's how I prepared for FAR but haven't received my scores yet–I may have no idea what I'm talking about…

Thanks, Debit. My game plan is to finish up F8 and F9 this week and then review my notes with Ninja, take a refresher quiz chapter by chapter, then do the progress tests until the cows come home and I am scoring consistently and understanding the material. I have been waiting for this exam for so long, it will be nice to get it out of the way, even if it is only a shot at it. I may do a sim or two but I hear the ones in Becker are nothing like the exam, and that a good understanding of the material/JEs will be more beneficial so I plan on incorporating all the JEs into my review.

    B 71 - 79 EXPIRED
    A 69 - 75 EXPIRED
    R 65 - 48 - 45
    F 56 - 61 - 65 - 64

I just switched to Wiley testbank becasue I was memorizing and feeling to comfy with Becker progress tests…..I am now back on the low 70's….for now and until next Sunday I will keep working MCQ's and reading the answers.

    Derivatives :

My review materials (Bisk) go into great detail about derivatives, Delevered Floaters, Ratchet Floaters, Regular-Way Security Trades, swaptions, etc.

It is COMPLETELY over my head… it's so far over my head I can't even see the soles of its feet. Now, when I took AUD, my materials spent a lot of time on a very complex audit sampling equation that was so far beyond the scope of the actual exam that it wasn't even funny. I'm hoping that that's what's happening here with derivatives.

My question is: what level of detail do other review materials like Becker and Yaeger and Roger go into?

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

Wanted to thank everyone for all the support through the first 3 exams, cant tell you how many times this site has helped me get motivated to study. One section left and really feeling the heat on the FAR material. Any suggestions for where to focus my energy in the Becker materials? Made it through the material for the first time yesterday after a disapointing 5 weeks and shooting for a faster trip through the MC and sims before i start crushing practice exams.

    AUDIT 7/29/11 - 87
    REG 10/7/11 - 86
    BEC 11/24/11 - 85
    FAR 2/24/12 - ???

    @Katie

I am using Becker, right or wrong, they do not go into near as much detail. More high level basic understanding.

I have a general FAR question. I am just starting to study for FAR. Can this test be passed in 6 weeks? I really want to finish this phase of my life.

    Reg 77 (Aug 11)
    Aud 80 (Nov 11)
    BEC 79 (Jan 12)
    FAR 80 (April 12)

I honestly feel like a moron writing this, but I guess I knew I would do bad on my first attempt at FAR and am not sure if I should even continue to study.

I've been working in an accounting dept. for the last 4 years; however, I feel my basic knowledge/understanding of accounting is lacking and preventing me from doing better on this exam. I thought that maybe using Becker would be sufficient to fill in the blanks. However, throughout my studying I felt like I was missing something.

To cut to the chase I received a 47 on my first FAR attempt! Should I keep going? Does experience help that much?

    Thanks.

    FAR - Bad Fail '11, Fail '12, Fail '13, PASS It's a miracle!

@Katie & akb9874…I had Becker and Wiley Test Bank for AUD. I was worried about the materials Becker covered since Wiley Test Bank went deeper and detailed on topics. I would say I passed AUD just by studying Becker since I only finished less than two sections of Wiley Test Bank. I am currently studying for FAR as well…I have Wiley test bank again, but I am going to make Becker my main material to study. I consider myself a lazy person, if I can study less and still make a 75, I am fine with that. My point is, if CPA exam is a mile long and an inches deep, a mile and an half long and an inch and an half deep sounds good to me…no need to go more than 2 or 3 inches deep…It sounds Bisk went beyond than 2 inches from what you were saying (I could be wrong since I haven't seen it yet)…

Here is the example you can tell the differnece between Becker and other materials, on financial statements error: Becker just talked about how it should be presented/treated on the statements, either in Retained Earning or Income Statement, no journel entries or calculation. On Wiley Test Bank, I had questions like “if inventory is overstated in 09 for $xxx, understand '10 for $xxx, what is the net effect to retained earning in '11″…

@spur… have you studied the whole Becker book and passmater before you took the test? my CPA review instructor once said “as long as you know where the debit and credit are, you are good to go…” :-)…please don't give up. There are many passed the exams who didn't have the experience…FYI, my last accounting class was 6 yrs ago…As long as you study and understand the concept and do the practice exam, you are good to go.

Yes, I followed the book, but I feel like I was bogged down with videos. It took forever to get through each section, and I think my problem was that I didn't memorize enough as I relied on the videos to get me through each section of the book.

Can someone please enlighten me and tell me what to focus on? Should I be trying to memorize concepts? What should I pay attention to the most. I guess I'd like to know what the best study process is for FAR and the examination overall?

Becker gives you instructions, but I feel when they say, “don't worry about the amount of material, you'll be surprised how much you will retain” is misleading because it made me think I'd be fine just going through the book once.

    FAR - Bad Fail '11, Fail '12, Fail '13, PASS It's a miracle!
    AUD - Fail, PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    BEC - PASS!!!!!!!!
REG - PASS!!!!!!!! And I'm done!
