AnonymousInactiveI went through and looked at each one first and then did the ones I knew first. Be prepared for anything.

HerbieherbParticipantTaking FAR today also. I'm leaving for Prometric Center in less than an hour! I'm going to do my best and worry later :).

weed74ParticipantTook FAR 2/26. I must say that the new version is hardly different from the old. All topics expected to be tested were tested (including new subject area for 2011).
Generally speaking (since I can't be specific) – about 10% of my multiple choice questions were all based on the same material, which I felt was a very unfair weighting. Especially considering that I worked in public accounting for 5 years and never once had to worry about the topic. Oh well.
The TBS were manageable. This is the first time I've ever finished the entire exam without time running out. I also took about a 5 minute break. I don't think the exam was easier. Like usual, I felt like I knew 50% of the MCQ pretty well and the other 50% was pretty much a guess. Only one of my TBS tabs was a surprise to me, but mostly because I didn't study the material much.
Good luck to anyone taking it today.

I use CPAexcel. I think the study material is adequate. The first time I took it I studied only the intermediate accounting portion and got a 66. Thinking I would pass if I got the hang of some of the Advanced Accounting topics for the 2nd try, I gave it a shot and got a 73. So for the 3rd try I studied up on Govt Accounting and did well in that area, but did not do well on NFP or Specific Transactions…so for the 4th try this past weekend, I did a quick review of all areas, dug in a little more on Advanced Accounting and a few of the major account transactions (Inventory, Notes, EPS).
I don't feel like I was any more successful on my 4th attempt than the first 3. I guess I am hoping I improved in all areas by just a bit. Also, I've always performed well on sims, so hopefully a bigger weight will push me over the top.

mrs.jadecpagonnabeParticipantOk thanks. I took FAR for the second time on 2/12/11 and I restudied all information using Becker-I did not rewatch any lectures however I worked the questions 3-4 xs and worked the supplemetal ?s (which I did not do b4) and I did the practice test 2 x's (did not do that b4 either). I am hoping I passed-However, I felt better than I did the 1st time around but it was definitely not easy. I just hope I put in enough time and effort this try for it to pay off-If so I am done with this exam and my obseesion with the process..

AnonymousInactiveTook FAR Monday and have no idea how I did. There were topics that I spent a little extra time on during my final review that paid off. But I ran out of time for the final review and took the test feeling a bit unprepared. I always feel another 4 – 5 days would be helpful.
My restlests did not seem to get harder, there was nothing that Becker had not covered. The sims were tough and I drew a blank on one topic – it was something I had covered but could not recall the information. Started the sims with just over 1 hr 40 minutes and feft that was enough time.
Thanks for the heads up about the delay in loading the sims. That would have been a good reason to panic.
Now the wait begins.
Good luck to all of us.

AnonymousInactiveHi
I am Dhiren Sarin, I took FAR on 02/28/2010. I did not go that well. I studied a lot and made some silly mistakes in the exam. My first testlet was easy and I believe I did well on that because my second testlet was hard. My second testlet was very indirect and hard for me. I did 3 silly calculation mistakes in my second testlet questions . I took an hour to solve the questions in second testlet. My third testlet was easy which makes me believe that I did not do that well on 2nd testlet.
My IFRS questions were crazy, I never heard about them in Becker. I got lot of questions of IFRS. My simulations were hard. I got . I did very bad on two. Rest 5 I will say I knew well except some mistakes here and there.
I am very tensed, Please reply what you all think about my case. I will be so thankful. Thanks

AnonymousInactive@DhirenSarin: It sounds like you did fine! I didn't notice my testlets getting harder on FAR and I passed! Sometimes because of the stressful environment, we aren't the best judges of whether its a hard testlet or not! As for your simulations, the 2 that you didn't know could be pre-test simulations!
Good Luck and don't stress too much!

adcpaParticipantWith the simulations on the new task based exam (7tabs), did anyone feel that some of the sims were harder than others? I managed to throw some stuff into each si,. but I dont feel I knew them 100%. Anyone else have this experience?
March 4, 2011 at 2:53 pm #374764
weed74ParticipantI didn't really feel like the sims were much different. 2 of the 7 I didn't know the material super well, so of course those were harder for me than the others. 1 sim was not worded well at all, which was very irritating, because I didn't understand what they wanted for sure. I've always felt the research portion is the easiest, and I can usually do that tab in 2 or 3 minutes. All in all, same old stuff, new format.

wannabetxacctntParticipantI just started studying for FAR, and I was hoping to get some advice from those who have recently taken FAR.
I'm finding the IFRS stuff to be information overload and it is confusing me with the GAAP stuff, I'm considering blowing it off entirely and simply focusing on all the GAAP stuff. Is this a good idea? approximately what is the percentage breakdown of IFRS on the 2011 FAR exam? none of the books are able to specify this. I figured if IFRS has just been recently introduced, it won't be as heavily tested as yet (esp considering that US is still using GAAP). I'd like the recent FAR takers input on this, thanks!

Maybe learn the GAAP and then the final week read over a high level review of the contrast between GAAP & IFRS. By then the GAAP will be familiar and then the IFRS won't be too much.
adcpa & weed74
Did not notice a difference – but it helps to have all the sims available in one testlet. Easier to know where to divide your time and not rush through a testlet only to find the time would have been better spent on the first teslet.
