IlanaParticipantHello everyone!
I will be taking FAR in a week and am having a LOT of trouble with the intercompany transaction section. I have listened to the lectures twice and still do poorly on the questions. Did they emphasize this section? Can I skip it completely?!?! PLEASE please help!

T-rexParticipantTired, tired, oh so %$#^%$ tired. I'm on Becker FIN 4. Ugh–5 more lessons to go after this one. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (barely), but damn am I worn out.
I'm counting down the days until this craziness is over. About 107 days to go (assuming I pass–and I will damn it!).
Just needed to vent.
Nighty night, all and happy studies!
AUD - 95, BEC - 85
REG - 85, Rawrrrrrr FAR - 88
Used Becker for all sections.

AnonymousInactiveF-1 thru F-7 are the worst of FAR to me. I actually found government and NFP refreshing because I was so sick of calculations. I had no exposure to any of it yet I always performed “Stronger” on those topics. Becker does a good job covering those.
107 days will fly by and then the 20 -30 days to wait for your score will feel like an eternity.
Good luck!

yankeeaccountantParticipantHey guys,
I am taking FAR on 5/30. I am using the Yaeger Cram and doing mcq's. This is my third swipe. I am also sooooo tired. This is my third exam this window and I am struggling to stay on track. I got a bit off track this weekend—tough because my son came home from college (first year) and I just went the way of the dark side–where is Obi Wan Kenobi when you need him?????
I am going to have to hit it hard this week and make up for lost time.
One good thing is that some things are just making sense this time around. I don't know if that makes sense or if I am groggy from mcq's and listening to videos! haha.
Best of luck to you all.

tablelegParticipantyankeeaccountant, you are taking this test on Memorial Day? I didn't think the testing center would be open. I am taking it the next day.

AnonymousInactiveI have a question in regards to the comparison of the Becker MC and Sims to the actual exam.
In Becker there are many many calculations which sometimes takes me forever because I have to sit back and think for a minute. Are the MC questions on the actual exam a little more direct with less calculations involved? Some Becker MC questions give you so much info it takes a while to read through it. With REG my only other 2011 attempt, the questions were very short. I figure they wont be so detailed as only so much can fit on that old monitor.
Also, some of the Sims in Becker are quite complex. Especially the F-3 Sim with Inter company transaction. Should I expect such complex on the exam? I am so burned out on studying and just want this to be over. At this point I question what is better, being a CPA or not having to do MC questions every night and being able to live with myself.

AnonymousInactiveI didn't use becker, so I don't know how long or short the MC questions are. I took FAR last week, and I would say that there was a mix of short and longer problems. Some problems only appeared long, until you remembered some special rule and the answer is actually zero, or something like that. My strategy was skim the question, read that last sentence to see what they were really asking for, then go back and pick out the information that I needed. I also completely skip over the financial data when im reading the problem. I practiced alot of calculation questions so I felt comfortable just picking out the info i needed without actually reading the entire balance sheet, etc. The sims all required calculations, except the research one(s).

AnonymousInactiveall of the sims required calculations? Thats not good! I love the ones that ask, retrospective, prospective, or restatement haha. If you dont mind, how involved were the sims with the calculations? For example, Becker had a sim where you had to post a lot of hte journal entries for inter company transactions (CARINBIG for those that use Becker) and then you had to post them on the financial statements to adjust them. Would you say I would see a comparable sim on the exam? and or, would I expect the sims to just be calculate the depreciation using these methods… something a long those lines, or both? Its been hard judging these because the sim I had for aud and all the ones in Becker are cake compared to what I had for REG. REG sims were intense and even after going to my car to look up how to solve them I still couldnt. I am afriad FAR will be the same.

AnonymousInactiveI took REG last window, and the sims were totally brutal! I don't think the sims in FAR were nearly as bad, at least there wasn't anything that I didn't at least have some idea of how to complete. I would also say the sims in FAR were alot more comparable to what I saw in my wiley study materials, compared to the sims in REG that were totally foreign to me. I would say to expect sims very similiar to the ones seen in becker. There are 5-6 sims, so there could be a mix of shorter ones that only require a few calculations and some journal entries, and then longer more complicated ones.

AnonymousInactiveI take FAR for the third and what I hope is the last time on the 26th. I'm feeling very much unsure at this point. I completed the Yaeger HS about 2 weeks ago and have been doing MCQs since plus I read Jeffs notes and the handouts each night before bed. I'm not sure what else to do this last week and a half. I have rewritten all my notes also. I feel as if I have a basic grasp but not as if I could go in and say do Pensions in detail or any of the other topics besides Govt. What should I focus on my last week?

sapna1208Participant@IWantThisOver: Hey I m new in this forum can u please suggest me how to prepare for the FAR paper???
May 16, 2011 at 7:30 pm #374917
AnonymousInactiveSo I take FAR one week from today. I just took the practice exam in Becker and it didn't go as well as I'd hoped. About a 65% on the MCQ's and around 81% on the TBS's. My plan is to take the 2nd final on Wednesday, and keep going over the book and note-cards where I feel shaky. I'd say my worst area's are the conceptual framework (can't remember reliability vs.relevance etc), pensions, and government/NFP (not too bad though).
Does anyone here have any advice for the last week of studying for this beast? My confidence was shaken after REG was so difficult (though I still don't know the score). Thanks for any help!
