@showmethemoney For Becker, it's more important to understand why you got something right or wrong and understand the concept than go through the questions, just to get them right, so it looks good in the software, if you know what I mean. For me, if I don't actually understand the concepts, I'll just memorize the answers to the Becker questions, which is a CPA test death sentence!

Also, I'd try to make notes during the lectures and figure out which concepts seem like core concepts and make your own flashcards. I bought ringed flash cards, which I wrote my notes on and read while standing around, commuting, etc. I also would flash cards problems that I would get wrong in the Becker MCQ.

Full disclosure, I did none of this the first time I took FAR, which I failed. I did these things with AUD and got a 92. (I also had Ninja Audio). I'm hoping that these techniques land me at least a 75 on FAR. This one is a beast.

Is it me or is the Becker HW on F2 extremely more difficult than what the lecture presented it as? I did the lecture took notes and memorized 50+ flash cards before doing the homework and still got just above a 60. Anyone have the same feelings as me?

    @lmd5170

I feel the same! Also I feel like I retained absolutely nothing from the Lecture as it is, so much material. I like Peter Olinto way more haha.

I have a big problem with FAR. It's too much and too boring!! I fall asleep when reading the book…. Does anyone has a suggestion to keep focus? Should I buy the audio set so I can listen if my eyes don't want to read?

I failed FAR with a 67 :/ Left 4 sims blank. Retaking it on Oct 1st. I blame it on poor time management skills. How should i re-study for FAR?

@CPA 2013- I am currently studying for FAR right now as well for early October and have been listening to the lecture while tking notes and making flashcards. Then I memorize the flashcards and re read the book. Next I do the HW questions and a progress test. It takes 2 days per chapter for me. I did this method for REG and BEC and passed both.

    I hope this helps

I had a question.. i wrote FAR last month and failed with 71.. Everything was strong except the Sims.. I am using becker to study.. I wanted to know.. how do you study for Sims.. should i get wiley test bank or the becker sims are sufficient.. I will be honest here.. I didnt pay attention to sims as i should be.. so i just wanted to make sure if becker should do it for me.. I cant believe i failed just because i did bad on the Sims.

    Thanks

So I'm in my first official week of studying again for FAR. I decided to also switch from Becker to Yaeger and supplement with NINJA notes and NINJA audio. I listen to the audio on my drive to and from work so that gives me and additonal 40 minutes a day that I normally would have wasted by listening to music.

My first impression of the Yaeger course is that its exactly what I needed, a teaching course and not a review course. I'll be honest. I don't understand most of the concepts presented, at least not to a level that is required when your taking the exam.

I also fell in love with the simplicity of the ELL plan. It just makes so much sense to me. I'm really hoping for a significant improvement in my score this time.

I'm in agreement with everyone else about FAR – so much info.

    FAR - Bad Fail '11, Fail '12, Fail '13, PASS It's a miracle!
    AUD - Fail, PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    BEC - PASS!!!!!!!!
REG - PASS!!!!!!!! And I'm done!

The CPA finish line is in sight…and over the horizon I see an hurdle that reads “FAR”. I've only used the Wiley review book and Wiley test bank to study for all my prior exams, and I've passed them all first time. But when I opened the Amazon package I was shocked to see how large the Wiley FAR review book is. My next exam is scheduled for August 30th due to expiration of my NTS. I figured i'll just go to the test and learn a little about the test with the expectation of failing it and re-testing in November. I have my work experience, so my goal is to have my CPA before January so that when I send out tax organizers I can have the designation of CPA and my clients will know that I will be signing returns this year. What are the negatives to failing a CPA section? If I plan on switching from SE to a salaried position, would an epic failing score on FAR really hurt my chances of acquiring a job? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Question: F3, page 6 in Becker

    Impairment of Securities:

GAAP – “if the decline in fair value is other than temporary, the cost basis of the individual security is written down to fair value as the new cost basis and the amount of the write-down is account for as a realized loss and included in earnings”.

I get that part, but not the next part

IFRS – “an impairment loss is recognized in the earnings and the individual security is writeen down by either directly reducing the cost basis of the security or through the use of a valuation allowance. ***Additionally, previously recognized impairment losses on HTM debt securities and AFS debt securities must be reversed***”

What does the part in between the asterisks mean?

Exam is in less the a week! Feeling overwhelmed and anxious..been reviewing and I forgot some things! Ugh that is the worst…hoping I can re-CRAM everything into my head within the next 5 days..

I think the reviewing is worse then the initially studying!

    BEC - 67, 68, 68
    AUD - 44
    FAR - 40, 50
    REG - 68, 68
