I’ve been reading what everyone has wrote here and honestly I’m a little freaked out now!

It’s not that I don’t think I can pass the FAR part of the exam, I just don’t feel ready. So I’m looking for a little advice. I am scheduled to take it 8/22. However I’m just not feeling confident about taking it. I don’t feel like I know the material well enough. I am thinking of rescheduling to Nov and just making sure I have a solid understanding of everything. I don’t want to take the exam and fail and then have to pay for it again.

Anyone else feel the same way?

    Any advice?

No one's ever ready. You just have to take the plunge and have confidence in that you've studied and are capable of passing. Trust me, if you reschedule you'll have the same reservations when November rolls around.

Does anyone here have experience studying with a partner? aka watching lectures together, discussing the information learned and clarifying questions. If so was it effective?

I know that I learn best when I interact with a person and speak things out. This is hard for studying for the CPA test because most courses are lectures.

I would be interested in studying with someone in this way. I'm in northern NJ and have the yaeger course for FAR. I am looking to take the test mid October and am free for most of the day most days.

If you live in or can get to northern NJ on a daily basis and are interested in studying this way. Please let me know. My email address is gsim84@gmail.com

    Thanks!

@Joens1313 i agree with PistolPete, you will never feel ready. I am taking FAR at the end of Aug and feel there is no way in hell i will be ready, but as stated, i guarantee i will feel the same way in Oct or Nov if i put it off. My thought is i am going to take it no matter what and try my best. If i dont pass, i will reschedule the next testing window but at least know where i stand.

I'm starting to feel a little better about FAR. I took off work on Monday so I have 3 full days to do mcq's. I think I'll just try to do the mcq's in the book for the sections I have trouble with.

My FAR exam is this Monday, August 13th. As of tonight, I have worked 2,763 mutlitple choice questions. And that does not include reworking the one's that I had to do over. I've worked SIMS, made notes, outlined chapters, and listened to lectures and material I have recorded until I am ready to puke. I am terrified to take this exam. It is my last part I have to pass and I have three attempts. I am so overwhelmed right now.

We just have to keep telling ourselve–we candothis!

Good Luck to everyone taking FAR soon!

@ahocal Those extra thirty minutes(or whatever you can do) in the morning and the time you can fit in at lunch will really add up! About a month ago, I realized that I needed to kick into after burner as my FAR test date is approaching. I got up thirty minutes earlier in the morning and studied forty-five minutes to an hour at lunch. The time really starts to add up and will benefit you. I would also recommend purchasing audio notes such as the NINJA or recording your own note cards, mnemonics or whatever would work for you. Listen wherever you can.

    Hope this helps you

@ Oceanaire ~ I have added Wiley test bank and Ninja notes and audio. It seems to help a lot. I think I memorize mc, and Wiley questions are different from Becker's. The Ninja audio also helps me remember things because I can hear Jeff saying them in my head… Hope this helps 🙂

    REG 72, 86 and DONE!!!

I'm studying for FAR right now.. Test date 8/25. I followed the ninja method and watched all the videos and took notes first. Now i'm pounding out the MCQ's and it's taking longer because i'm actually trying to understand the concepts and write JE for the MCQ's that I can. I'm on F4 and plan is to complete remaining section MCQ by Friday so I can have 6 days of review and wrap-up. Best of luck to everyone!

I keep reading these posts and everyone keeps talking about the sheer amount of information and how ridiculously hard it is to remember everything.

I think I've been studying too long, because I've reached the point where I agree with everyone on the first part – it is an absolutely asinine amount of information – but rather than “remembering all of this is going to be hard,” I'm slowly slipping into, “There's no way I'm going to remember most of this, so… I'm not even going to bother to try.”

Rather, I'm just going through the Becker lectures haphazardly and then basically “learning” by doing the problems. It is literally impossible to memorize very little detail, and feels like a waste of time anyway. I've started just focusing on the core concepts, and as for the other stuff – if it sticks, it sticks, and if not – well I've got a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right!

(Because lets be honest – even if by some act of god you manage to remember the 10 exceptions or rules that you need to know to answer some asinine question you get, odds are its going to be presented in some ass-backwards manner such that you can't figure it out anyway!!)

I'm going into my 4th week of studying for FAR and I sit for it on the 27th. I am using Becker and supplementing with Ninja Notes. So far I have read the entire Becker book and the Ninija Notes once, I listened to all of the lectures and took notes, and I am not halfway through the MCQs for the first time and re-reading the Becker book. I am having a hard time grasping the calculations and equations. On the conceptually questions I do good on. So far I have averaged about 65% on all of the practice questions. I just don't know what to do to better prepare myself for the exam in 2 weeks. I plan to finish re-reading the book, re-read the Ninja notes, go through the MCQs another time, and complete the 2 practice exams. I am just extremely frustrated at this point and I just want to get this over with.

    @Sequin

RELAX… Think about it – there really ISN'T anything more you can do! If there was, you would be doing it. It sounds like you are amply prepared and then some. At this point you need to just take a step-back and start building up your confidence.

Just accept that you're going to miss 1-2 questions on the exam that are hard, but so will most everyone else. You're graded compared to everyone – and I'm going to be one of those people, so already you have a slight edge! =)-

I sincerely believe that attitude makes a huge difference going into these exams. If you go in confident and relaxed, you'll knock it out of the park!

Thanks, everyone, for your encouraging words. It really helps to know we aren't alone in this crazy process! I'm almost done with going through all the Becker chapters and I listen to the FAR audio almost every day. If there's a concept in a MCQ that I don't understand, I write it down so I can go over it again later. I take the test in 11 days and hope that's enough time to review all the material I've gone over in the last month. Do you guys have any particular suggestions for the last week of studying? I usually do as many MCQ as possible, take the practice tests once and review my notes (including the Ninja Notes) during my commute.

    BEC – 75 – No ninja stuff

AUD – 92 – followed the same outline I described above – Used Ninja Audio and notes

    REG – 82 – No Ninja stuff

FAR – 63 – No Ninja stuff, did bare minimum. It was graduation season.
