I’ve ventured into the Health issues section, but this particular thread is supposed to help AVOID said issues.

Let’s share what we are doing to try and maintain our health while studying. What are you guys doing for workouts? Workout DVDs? Buying home equipment? Gym lifting? Cardio only? Any particular workout programs you are using or are you freestyling it? What time of day do you workout?

Are you guys trying to keep your eating habits under control? What are some good healthy study snacks you like?

While it may be difficult for these exams to not affect your health at all, it is important to minimize negative affects. Let’s support each other and share our tips/techniques!

Got to work at 6:30 this morning to study for a few hours before work begins! (I count writing on this forum as studying :-P).

I'm hoping to get a little workout in tonight.

Have a nice day, everyone! Hopefully it's a Friday for most of us!

I've logged 8 hours of studing so far this week and a 3 mile jog yesterday. Tomorrow morning at 8am I do my 10k, which is almost as nerve-racking as my exam on Sunday! Back to work on Friday and then some stellar review hours Friday evening, all day Saturday, and my usual pre-exam 2 hours at the closest-to-Prometric Starbucks.

I feel like a renaissance man! Err, woman!

FIT: No exercise this morning…stayed up really late rewriting NINJA notes for FAR.

Ok so today's “smoothie” is more like a juice and it's not as tasty sounding as the previous smoothies. It's called the Liver Cleanse. Here's the recipe:

    Liver Cleanser

For this flavorful, thick NutriBlast, Koff used the NutriBullet, a food extractor that delivers the perfect smoothie portion.

    Serves 1

    50% kale

    ¼ cup parsley

1 small beet (scrubbed and quartered)

1 apple (core and seeds removed)

    1 lemon (peeled)

    ½” chunk of fresh ginger

1 Tbsp chia seeds…I used flax seeds instead.

    Water to the max line

    BLEND all ingredients.

Good luck, nbad! I'm not sure which sounds scarier, a 10k or an exam 🙂

@CPA4birthdaypresent…i hear you regarding the rewriting of notes…my hand is killing me…i haven't taken these detailed of notes since college…that was over 4 years ago. My technique is to be listening to the NINJA audio while rewriting the NINJA notes…there are some examples mentioned in one that the other doesn't have. I also try to remember anything my Becker review materials said, and i will input that information along with my retyping of notes. I do think this is definitely helping me remember things though.

Good luck on the smoothie cleanse, I actually did a juicing cleanse back in february with my wife right when I was about to take my REG exam. Not sure if it helped for the exam, but i lost a few pounds, felt a little better. But if I recall, i did pass the REG exam, and didn't pass my AUD exam when I wasn't doing it….hmmm maybe juicing cleanse for this NINJA soon…

Oh man guys…the heat/humidity got the best of me on my run today. I only lasted 3.5 miles of the intended 6. Light headed, dizzy, felt like I was going to puke. It was 90 degrees, no breeze and insane humidity on a water front trail with little shade. On the plus side I stopped before I passed out and I did get in 3.5 miles and then walked three quarters back to my car and already walked the dogs this morning. So while not what i intended I still got in some good cardio today.

Study: Studied an hour at lunch. Feeling craptastic right now so I am going to take a nap and finish my notes tonight!

Well my friend mentioned she wants to do a sprint triathlon in October and she wants me to do it with her. It's really hot and humid here in central Florida, so I just got a treadmill a couple weeks ago to run inside (but it's really taking some getting used to the treadmill). Our gym doesn't have a pool, so I'll have to swim at the beach or something for the swim practice. I used to really enjoy swimming at the Olympic pool in college, but I haven't done it in a couple of years at least now. Also, my bike is a regular hybrid (non-road) bike. I'm wondering if that is going to be a problem in the triathlon. Although this one is specifically called “My First Tri” and it's a women's only tri which makes me a little less worried. Just not sure if it's a good idea without proper training (treadmill, beach swim, and non-road bike). Any advice?

@UCFCPA – The biggest issue would most likely be your inability to effectively train for the swimming part of the triathlon (which comes first, by the way); a lot of people who are inefficient swimmers or who haven't trained well for that portion of the race will burn out there and then leave themselves exhausted for the bike and then the run. Check to see in what type of environment the swim portion will be (i.e. river, lake, ocean) and attempt to replicate those conditions.

Otherwise, I really don't see a problem. A hybrid bike is going to slow you down a bit on the bike portion (with respect to if you would have used a road bike or better yet, a bike specifically designed for time trials), but it's not going to be an issue in terms of finishing. You can run on a treadmill and get a proper workout in (and save your knees in the meantime as the treadmill will give slightly); just raise the incline to 2-3 degrees in order to better replicate road running.

    Good luck!

So, my boyfriend ended up dragging me to the gym last night, and while walking there, I decided that I wanted to run outside. It was 9pm and like, 80 degrees and humid out. We ended up doing a 2.4 mile run, and I ran most of the way! I was so excited and proud of myself :). Then. we headed to the gym and did a few more small workouts.

Once home, I had a nice glass of milk and protein.

After the workout, I finished up my chapter 8 notes (but I still wasn't where I should have been), and now it's studying all day today. Going to watch chapter 9 and hopefully take all of my chapter 9 notes.

@neika822, doesn't it suck running in the humidity?! A seemingly cool day/evening jog turns nasty when it's 90% humidity outside!

My run yesterday went great! I ran 6.2 miles in 57 minutes! Then went directly home, showered, and parked at Starbucks for hours and studied. NO BEER. NO PARTIES. NO SWIMMING. 🙁

@nbad – it was absolutely disgusting! At first, I was thinking it wasn't too bad, but then when we turned back, I was complaining the whole way how I was dying and needed water, haha. I'm pretty sure my bf was thinking, “never running with HER again.”

I definitely want to do it again though! I enjoy running outside much more, and apparently can DO more, than on the treadmill. Maybe tomorrow I'll wake up really early and get outside before it reaches 90 degrees. It's only 10am and already 87 degrees outside. Disgusting!

Did a good amount of studying yesterday, but still not where I set my goal to be.

Got up around 8 and headed to a local park in Boston to do some running. It was nice, but it was HOT. I didn't go as far as I did Thursday, but I blame it on the heat and the sun :).

My plan was to start studying earlier today, but then I took a nap, and it all went down hill from there. Now I have a headache, so I'm going to try to take it easy and study at the same time…

Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend!

@neika – congrats on your outside run! Isn't it so much better than treadmill running!?

It is gross and hot and humid here so I forced myself on the treadmill for some “torture” which turned in to my first four mile run under 40 minutes. Usually I am between 10:30 and 11 min pace…(yes I know I am a slow runner) so to get four miles under 40 is huge!

Slightly behind on CIA studying but I have tonight and tomorrow to catch up. Granted I am off to the dog park in a few.
