I’ve ventured into the Health issues section, but this particular thread is supposed to help AVOID said issues.

Let’s share what we are doing to try and maintain our health while studying. What are you guys doing for workouts? Workout DVDs? Buying home equipment? Gym lifting? Cardio only? Any particular workout programs you are using or are you freestyling it? What time of day do you workout?

Are you guys trying to keep your eating habits under control? What are some good healthy study snacks you like?

While it may be difficult for these exams to not affect your health at all, it is important to minimize negative affects. Let’s support each other and share our tips/techniques!

Study: HORRIBLE. My sister came over to visit yesterday, so I didn't study at all this weekend. Which is no excuse. I really need to hit the books this week and continue until August. FAR just sucks.

Fit: Hit the gym for a little over an hour today. Did this 15 min leg workout which consisted of squats, lunges, calf raises, jumping jacks (old-school here, but 100 killed me!), and wall squats. Then hit the treadmill for 1.7 miles (ran 1.25 of it), then did some ab work and arm work. So it was a fairly productive gym day! But not so productive study day.

I've been working out fairly consistently for over 2 months now, but I haven't been pushing myself. I'm noticing I'm not as tired and I have more energy, but I'm not noticing too much tone yet. I know it's me not pushing myself. Studying is getting in the way though!! I still need to get protein too….

@smp – yay for the great time doing the 5k!!! I'd love to work my way up to a 5k, but I HATE running.

@neika Thanks! When I first started running I hated it with a firey burning passion. Eventually I learned to like it than love it. I could never see myself running anything like a marathon but going for a nice run a lot of fun. Keep going…who knows you might come to love running! 🙂

Alright alright alriigghhht (kevin hart reference)

FIT: Did another Stage 4 lifting session and 10min. HIIT on the seated bike…the regular stationary bike hurts my booty

I didn't enjoy yesterday's smoothie of the day “Strawberry Fields”…today's smoothie of the day is:

    Blueberry Ginger

This gluten-free smoothie is packed with antioxidants.

    Serves 1

1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)

    ¼ cup blueberries

    1 frozen banana

    3 Tbsp ginger juice

BLEND all ingredients together in VitaMix.

STUDY: after I completed my 90 mcqs progress test of all 10 chapters, I was surprised to see how much I still needed work on. I feel like the questions from the progress test were not at all similar to the ones in the homework…so I guess it makes sense that I didn't do as well as I had planned. Still frustrating…anyway, now I'm writing NINJA notes for FAR.

    @ smp – Congrats on the 5k!!!

@ Mints, I hope your knee is feeling better 🙁

@ neika – I'm with you there. I was pretty much off the study wagon this weekend…..

@ cpa4birthdaypresent – WOW! You are KILLER!!! I admire your tenacity!

    As for me….

FIT: Woke up early and did JM's Killer Buns & Thighs. I LOVED it!!! 🙂

STUDY: Rededicated myself and hit the restart button. Truthfully, I was getting myself distracted with friends' drama, fb, and other NON-study issues…. Stripping away the non-essentials and concentrating on THIS. This needs me, and I need it…..!

Here's to a great week for everyone! And if it isn't, we are all here for you….. 🙂

@smp73 Congrats on your time improvement and your new smaller size!!! I'm with @Neika I like the idea of doing a 5k…but I really hate running!!!! 😉 @Denise LOVE JM, she is so crazy! @cpa4birthdaypresent you rock!!!!! @dmurph yet another great link, thanks for posting!

Study: Successful power weekend after a posting a serious b*tch-fest on Friday!!! I decided to stop complaining, suck it up, and hit the books! I put in 3.5 hours Friday, 8.5 Saturday, 4 yesterday! FAR must die, as I so desperately want to be DONE!

Fit: Spent the weekend avoiding things like high heels, stairs, and intense cardio to let my knee heal up and it feels much better! I'm leaving for vacation on Thursday and didn't want it to hinder my trip! I put in 3 solid workouts over the weekend that were focused on mat work and pilates and such. My arms and legs still feel like jello! Ha! I'm seeing much more definition in my arms, so I'm going to hit the upper body workouts hard until we leave for Florida.

I'm also happy to report that I found 2 dresses in my closet to wear on this week's vacation that were previously too small to take on our last vacation! Yay!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Study: Three hours in yesterday and scheduled the exam. August 19.

Fit: 1.5 mile dog walk in the morning. 1.1 mile run with one dog in the afternoon. Did an arm workout too.

Keep up the good work everyone!

FIT: Ran a mile this morning, and did that 15-min leg workout (squats, lunges, leg raises, wall squat, calf raises…). Then did a teeny bit of ab work. I had to go to Express last night (help my bf find a suit), so I tried a dress on for my upcoming bday in August. It was cute! I'd like to get it and then work on my abs more to lose the teeny pouch I have. Maybe between now and my bday in late August, I can see some more results and look cute in my bday dress 🙂

STUDY: Got up early yesterday to study, studied at lunch, and then just lost motivation at night. My boyfriend is out of the house tonight so my plan is to STUDY STUDY STUDY. I'll get up early tomorrow morning too. Then I have Thurs/Fri off, which will be completely dedicated to studying.

I just got my NTS, so I'm scheduling for early August RIGHT NOW.

I think once I'm done the CPA, I'd like to hit the gym more often, and MAYBE train for a 5k. Maybe I'll learn to like running. Or at least to tolerate it 🙂

    Good morning all!!

@ Neika, there is a great program that you can find online called Couchto5k. I might have the spelling wrong, but it helps you train for a 5k a little bit at a time. It breaks it up into 3 sessions a week of alternating walking and jogging. You eventually lessen the amount of time you walk, while increasing the amount you jog. Give it a try!

FIT: Woke up at 5:15 this morning and did JM's Ripped in 30! As I did my push-ups (non girly ones), I could definitely feel my arms getting stronger. Woohoo!!

STUDY: Last night, I did a thorough review of the different types of opinions and the associated wording for each. I also concentrated on the uses of the Emphasis of Matter and Other Matter paragraphs. I went to bed feeling like it was coming together nicely.

    Have a great day everyone!

FIT: I was going to wake up early with my husband and do some cardio…but I couldn't wake up early this morning. Just so tired.

Smoothie of the day is called “Belly Soother”. The original recipe calls for papaya, but I used mango as a substitute. It also called for coconut yogurt, so I used greek yogurt instead. I needed the extra protein and I just added almond milk to thin it out a bit. The recipe is below:

    Belly Soother

Treat your tummy to a healthy dose of probiotics, found in tangy kefir.

    Serves 1-2

    1 cup papaya

1 cup coconut kefir, coconut yogurt or cultured coconut milk

    juice from ½ lime

    1 tbsp raw honey

    BLEND all ingredients.

STUDY: Rewrote my 15 pages of NINJA FAR notes yesterday. Gotta do 15 more today and get around to reviewing the weak areas. These weak areas are hard to study because they deflate my optimism…because I'm not good at them lol…but I need to approach them with the mindset that once conquered they will make me that much closer to passing this exam.

I need to get hyped again for studying…trying to think of some music to get me pumped.

@Denise – thanks! I'll have to check that out. I know they have a few in-person programs, but I was hoping for something cheap and on my own time. I'd love to LOVE running… I just want to get off the treadmill each time, haha.

@CPA – your shakes make me hungry everyday! I've been meaning to pick up some protein (or order some online) to make some smoothies. I also need to pick up more fruit!

@Neika I HATE treadmill running so much. I try and do all my runs outside. It is what made me actually like running. 🙂 Are you in an area where you can run outside? Might make it more fun for you! I use a free app on my phone to track my distance and time and pace. It is great.

I was originally going to run tonight but it just dawned on me I will get out of work early tomorrow…and I could run the waterfront trail. I think I will shoot for 6 miles tomorrow and do weights tonight instead.

@ CPA your smoothie recipes sound delicious. I wish I could make some…too many things that make my body hate me though. How are you liking them so far? Any really good ones?

I really wish this thread was on here when I was studying, or if it was, WHY DIDN'T I KNOW ABOUT IT!? I exercised every day before I studied. It definitely helped relieve stress and prepare me for a horrendous day of studying

Life after the CPA exam is…. weird. I'm finding myself having time to do things I wrote down on what started as a short “to-do list” that grew and grew while I was studying.

As for Fit… I'm starting the Paleo diet this week… so far so good. I never ate many carbs to begin with so this shouldn't be a problem.

@smp – I bet that's one of the reasons I hate running. It takes so much effort for me to run on the treadmill, that I'm nervous to run outside! I went running along the beach two weeks ago with my bf, and that was great, although I feel like I dragged him down since I needed to stop a lot. I just need to get over it and run outside. I'm hoping to make a routine of that on the weekends, and then work my way up.

@Neika…Running outside is a different beast but so much more fun than running on a treadmill in my opinion. When I first started running I only ran outside. I mapped out a 3.3 mile loop (closest I could get to a 5k and make a loop) and set out and jogged as much as I could then took a walk break jthen ogged some more and kept repeating. Eventually I was walking less and jogging more. I remember the first day I jogged the entire loop. Then I started to get a little faster and really love the sense of accomplishment when I complete a run.

Study: No studying today. INSANE day at work coupled with some more insanity dealing with the winding up of my fathers estate. I am ahead of my schedule so it is okay and I will be able to study at lunch tomorrow and I have Thursday and Friday off so that will give me extra study time.

Fit: Morning dog walk and evening dog walk. Mile run at the gym, 3.75 mile bike at the gym, weights. Nothing too crazy…planning on a 6 mile run tomorrow so I am saving myself today! 🙂

@ bcjasper09 – I've been eating modified Paleo (still eat cheese & rice occasionally) for awhile now and love it. Mental clarity & energy are vastly improved, and mid-day sluggishness is a thing of the past due to no high carb meals. The hard part is getting over the initial hump where your body is adjusting to not getting all the high-carb, processed food prevalent in today's society (took me a good 3 weeks or so).
