I’ve ventured into the Health issues section, but this particular thread is supposed to help AVOID said issues.

Let’s share what we are doing to try and maintain our health while studying. What are you guys doing for workouts? Workout DVDs? Buying home equipment? Gym lifting? Cardio only? Any particular workout programs you are using or are you freestyling it? What time of day do you workout?

Are you guys trying to keep your eating habits under control? What are some good healthy study snacks you like?

While it may be difficult for these exams to not affect your health at all, it is important to minimize negative affects. Let’s support each other and share our tips/techniques!

@Mel, the half marathon was great but it was SO, HARD. It was extremely hilly (both up and down, many times it was too steep to run so I did a fair amount of walking), basically on a path in the woods that was only wide enough for a single-file line… the whole time! There was no enjoying the scenery, as I spent all my mental effort/vision trying not to fall and planning to pass others on the path. I did fall twice, but luckily came away with only some bruised knees (one is really really black& purple and gross though!) 2 hours 13 minutes and 43 seconds later I finished! This race was apparently for super mountainous fitness freaks because even with that time, which I thought was decent, I was way in the lower half of finishers. Cliff notes: Great personal accomplishment? Yes. Would I do another half marathon on a trail? Likely not. Better feeling than passing a CPA exam? No. Are my legs currently still sore? Yes.

    I did a 5k on Sunday!! And I didn't stop running!!

My friend had a few people drop out last minute, so my boyfriend and I joined her team. I hadn't trained beforehand, or even run 3 miles ever… but I did it! Slow pace, but it got me to the finish line!!

Now I feel so motivated to keep going and pushing myself to run 3 miles as part of my regular workout routine.

Glad to see this thread is still kickin'

It has been SO much easier to workout since having finished the exams…I now have the freedom to workout whenever I want (before work or after work), whereas before I felt like I could only workout if I went to the gym before work because after work hours were supposed to be 100% dedicated to studying.

Funny thing is, I still primarily go before work 🙂

i went to my training session and 25 mins in started side tracking with my trainer. yea, i couldn't do it today. energy was depleted bc my eating is horrible. i'm trying to meal prep but i don't have time to go to the grocery store, cook etc plus i'm broke. i'm maybe eating 900 calories a day on accident bc i'm so busy i don't realize how little i've eaten

i've began tracking what time i start studying, and what times i eat, hopefully i can get back on track with my calories and 5 meals a day

just wanted to reiterate my stance that it's okay to fall off whatever wagon you wanted to be on while studying, three months post exam here, lost 15 lbs, shirt size went down, everything fits better. I'm out riding my bike again 30-60 mile rides, it's good. All that time on the bike has me thinking about when my paperwork is going to come in though.

baby carrots, coffee, nuts, coffee, pita chips and coffee for the win! lol, glad that diet is behind me.

Get the exam out of the way first. Getting in shape after, with all that energy pent up beaming with pride it's easy to transition into your next nemesis/activity full steam.

This morning I got up at 4:30 and went to the gym. While lifting, I listened to the free Ninja Audio Jeff sent out for us. It really made me feel like I wasn't wasting precious study hours on exercising and I was getting the best of both worlds. Staying fit is a huge concern of mine while on this journey. I've only been at it for a few months and feel like I can already tell a difference in my body.

    Hi everyone!

Yesterday I downloaded “lumosity” for free, thanks to the Starbucks app. I had no idea what it was, apparently they call it “brain training” game. So I figured I'd check here to see if anyone here has played it. Do you like it? And most importantly, did you feel like it helped train your brain for the CPA exam?

    Thanks!

I know this thread is old but I still wanted to comment. Lately my study weight gain has been bugging me so thank goodness for this thread and knowing I'm not alone. I just moved into an apartment complex that has a fairly decent gym on-site so I've just been doing twice-weekly dumbbell workouts–compound movements, with weight that's not *too* heavy because with all that sitting in a chair at work and sitting in a chair at home studying I'm worried about hurting myself. I love not having to go anywhere to work out, and the gym is 24 hours so if I want to I can stake a study break at 10 PM for a quick 20-minute workout. On Fridays after work I give myself the evening off from studying and go for a 3-mile walk at a large local park to get some outdoors time.

Obviously losing weight and getting in good shape are not a priority for me right now but I do feel like the weights and a bit of walking here and there will at least keep me from having to buy bigger pants in the coming months :p I love yoga and wish I had more time for it, but the classes are an hour long and involve driving somewhere so that's out until I pass. I just keep telling myself that my reward for passing will be a monthly unlimited yoga membership so I can go as much as I want!

I just bought a spin bike so I can TRY to workout at home. I am not even working currently and I still can't make time to go to the gym! I love spinning, so I hope that I can find an hour during the day to use it. I have kids and I am in school, so my plate is pretty full when you add on studying for these exams.

I have gained about 10 pounds since starting the exams this January. I am a stress eater and I am dying for this to be over!!!

@stellalink so funny, when I saw your name, I knew you must live in Houston :))

My weight has been a constant battle in the past few months. I'm a late at night stress/boredom eater and it's driving me nuts.

I've started working out during lunch a couple days each week at the gym in my office. I have tried studying during lunch, but found it to be unproductive (too many distractions), so I figured I would get my gym time instead. While I'm not a huge fan of showering in the middle of the day, I do enjoy the break and I have been feeling so much better since getting back to a regular workout routine!

I prioritize working out (running 4-5 times a week, 1 gym day) over a lot. I feel it keeps my mind sharp for studying but also more productive at work and home.

I will note that my life my seem pretty scheduled to my friends and family but it allows me to fit in a lot not only for myself but others.
