AnonymousInactiveWhy is it taking a lot to grade BEC. Before the 2011 changes, 3 parts had memos. Why do they state that it is because of the memos?

ZHMemberHey guys!! I found out I passed REG yesterday!! It was my first CPA exam part and I was SO happy! The news has also motivated me to jump start the studying for the second part as I want to get these exams out of the way ASAP.
I intend on taking BEC as my second part. I would appreciate any tips or guidance about BEC for e.g. what part of the course otuline to start with, what are the easy parts whats the difficult stuff etc. I used Becker for REG and planning on continuing with that. Pros and cons? Are the Becker MCQs better or Wiley?

It depends on what you think is easy / hard. With BEC, the chapters don't relate to each other, so you can really do it whatever order you want. If you're more of a numbers / calculation type – Becker Ch. 3 and 5 relates to that. If you're more of a conceptual / memorization type, this would be Becker Ch. 1, 2, 4. My tip for BEC is to really try and understand concepts while you're studying instead of pure memorization. The non-calculation questions on the test really require you to use your judgment on what is the best answer. It's not one of those where you'll be like oh…I've seen that question before. The better you know the theory, the better you'll be able to eliminate wrong answers and pick the best answer.

ZHMemberHmmm I'm definitely more of a calculation/number crunching kind of person rather than theoretical, and I actually liked cost accounting more than financial accounting during soph yr in college! I guess ill start with 3 and 5 and then move onto the others. I was checking out the course outline and skimmed the text a bit – the other stuff like strategic planning and operations management looks like common sense! I'm wondering how they test it but I guess once I see the mcq's in the review course i'll probably understand a bit. Anyway, thanks for the tip! Really appreciate it 🙂

AnonymousInactiveI think that I am a Yaeger convert….I just found out I passed BEC!! I had taken the exam 3 times before and scored a 53, 62 and 63, using Roger. I purchased Yaeger cram, since I have heard so many good things about it from this website. I did the minimum amount of MCQuestions and memorized all of the formulas recommended and reviewed the written communications and I passed with a 75. I barely passed, but who cares? A pass is a pass 🙂
I definitely recommend purchasing Yaeger for anyone having problems with BEC. They really helped me to focus on what was important to know for the exam and cut out all the “fluff.”
BTW-I took the exam in July and barely found out my score yesterday!! Ahh!!

SarahSMemberI agree with alliwantisa75, I used Becker for A,R, & F, after failing BEC for the second time in February, I purchased Yaeger home study Cindy is amazing at explaining Cost and Variances. I didn't pass right away, it took two more tries. This last time I purchased the Ninja Notes also. I thought the Ninja Notes were okay, no offense Jeff, I never had trouble in IT before and I think they help most there.
I spent at least two times as much time studying for BEC than for any of the others, I took a full week off work before my exam. I started studying July 18th and took my test August 27th. I did all of the lectures first and took notes, then went through ALL mcq's, not just the suggested ones. I also had the Wiley online test bank, which I did extra questions from, some are the same as the book and some are different. I always studied aiming for scoring 100% on the exam.
AUD - 74,79
FAR - 77
REG - 81
BEC - 70,69,74,75 - DONE!September 29, 2011 at 5:44 pm #465771
