Just took BEC today. It was actually my first ever CPA exam, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going in. I was surprised at how militant the testing center was about fingerprinting, ID's, etc…..wow. I spent about 5 weeks prepping for the exam, strictly using Becker and the practice problems on cpareviewforfree.com. I felt like these materials (generally) prepared me well for the exam.

In any event, I honestly can't figure out how I did now that the exam is over. I'll say that I felt like the WC simulations were pretty easy, but I've always been a strong writer. The first testlet was more “moderate” in terms of difficulty, but I felt like the second one was a little easier while the last one was definitely harder than the first one. If the test is indeed adaptive, I'm not sure I feel too great about that. Other than that, there were a few questions that were completely out of left field that I'm thinking had to be pre-test. Not much else to say…..lots of tricky stuff on there, for sure. Best of luck everyone. On to FAR for me…..

    BEC: 87 (7/13/11)
    FAR: 86 (8/31/11)
    AUD: 99 (10/6/11)
    REG: 88 (11/30/11)
    Ethics: 100
    (Illinois)

Used Becker for all four parts. Supplemented it with Wiley Test Bank for FAR and REG (HIGHLY recommended) and NINJA notes.

Wow – I just postponed BEC for the second time. My exam was scheduled for this Sunday and I am just not ready. I have not been able to get through chapter 5 of the Becker book. I am so discouraged. I have FAR in August and need to pass both or I lose AUD. Any tips on how to get through all that variable costing stuff…..ughhhhh

    took mine 7/2

letsfixthis – i had the same exact experience as you in terms of testlet difficulty

CertifiedPainintheA – becker's explanation of variances is way too difficult, cindy simpson makes variances look like a joke, i was actually hoping to see a lot of variance questions on the exam…she explains it that well!!!

    REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79
    BEC-60's,60's,69,71,76*,78
    FAR-67,66,65,79

Okay, I am going to get motivated to study for this exam one more time. This is my third time! I am going to review each chapter in my Becker book, take notes and write down every formula twice then do every multiple choice question Becker has to offer. If anyone who has purchased the Ninja notes, do you recommend me purchasing them as well. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

    AUD - 88
    REG - 85
    FAR - 81
    BEC - 70 (Oct 2010),70(May 2011), Retake 8/29/2011 80!!!! I AM DONE!!!

I found the Ninja notes helpful for BEC. I was really struggling with IT in Becker and Wiley, but I was a lot clearer after I went through Jeff's notes. They were useful in other areas as well but helped me the most with IT.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

Out of the sections of the exam that I have taken so far, I do not think I have taken a portion that had so many questions come out of no where. My preparation was sound, maybe even better than my preparation that has led me to success on other portions. However, I am not sure what to think after walking out of this one. Felt like the written communication went fine. I followed the Becker lecture closely and got topics I was familiar with. I also used other materials on the side to prepare for things that I have heard Becker was weak with. I honestly do not think there was any way I could have known to prepare for at least 7-8 of the questions that I saw. I don't know, but I am guessing that they may throw more questions out for this exam as pretest questions than for any other one given the changes this year. I do not want to say that I failed, but my feelings after today are not positive. All I can do is hope for the best.

    Hi Jeff,

I am preparing for BEC and planning to take the exam in 2nd week of Aug 2011. I am using Wiley book. I am still confused which passmaster should I use. Does the Ninja guide have mcqs and sim or its only a review?

    Thanks.
