lrchung730ParticipantCongrats to those that have passed!!!
I am seeking for suggestion, ideas or any advice anyone could give me. I am so discouraged with the exam. I took BEC in April and found out today that I didn't pass again, this was the 3rd time I took it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I put in about 25 hours a week doing questions and reviewing notes. My Audit is expiring August 22. I used Becker and then for the recent one, I used Yeager. Cindy helped a lot, but I'm still coming out short. Anyone has any suggestions on how to study?
Thanks!!!!

Taxi Cow TentParticipant@lrchung730 – sounds like you are doing all the right things. I plowed through BEC w/ Roger's review course, Wiley MC, Jeff's NINJA notes and doing countless MC questions. I think the MC questions are key to the formula. The only thing I can suggest is keep doing MC questions. Maybe consider Roger's cram course (not necessarily the full review course). I used the cram course only for AUD and it helped me pass.
Keep studying and doing MC questions and don't give up.
FAR - 11/10 - 84
REG - 2/11 - 89
BEC - 5/11 - 80
AUD - 5/11 - 83June 22, 2011 at 12:15 pm #465322

AnonymousInactive@lrchung730—Sounds like you are working hard at it, so thats not the issue. Maybe you are focusing too much on smaller concepts and too little on larger ones? Either way, you now have two review courses—I'd look over the AICPA's CSO to determine which areas to put extra emphasis on and then use a combination of Becker and Yaeger for your next exam. My strategy was pretty simple—review notes often and do A LOT of multiple choice questions, I only used Becker but also hit up Jeff's notes quite often(including in the prometric parking lot before the exam). You can pass this thing—and will pass it. Best of luck on your re-take.

29erriderParticipantYou are doing most things right. One of the biggest tips I can give you is to focus on the questions. Learning the material/taking notes/watching vids is great but there is no substitute for doing as many questions as possible. Do all the mcqs in your book (I suggest Wiley) and take notes in the margins on the ones that you missed. This will point out your weaknesses in no time and there is the added bonus of seeing some of the same questions on the exam. Also, what helped me out is the fact that the writing portion on BEC is 15% (or something) of the grade. There is a way to answer the questions (like using a template answer and insert what you know about the topic) plus you don't have to get the material exactly right, just sound like you know what you are talking about. Remember, they are grading on your grammar/commas etc… not accuracy. Good luck next time, just do millions of MCQs and don't waste too much time reviewing material unless you keep missing questions on it!
Oh yeah, one more thing. If you are using wiley, they tell you how the topics are weighted. pay attention to that it helped me way more on REG than BEC but is still really useful. As you can tell, I believe that focusing too much on reviewing material rather than constantly testing what you know/memorized is a waste of time and wiley helps out by telling you how the material is weighted.
