AnonymousInactivekja2011 – the score reports we receive herein North Carolina are almost USELESS. There are check marks here and there supposedly stating you either scored below, above or the similarily to other candidates who received a passing score in each of the 5 areas (or however many there are for that section).
Of course, somehow it is possible to “outscore” passers in more areas than not and still fail. You can outperform the passers in more areas than not and even outperform them in the written communications and still fail.
Its TRASH. They might as well just send you a paper with a number on it and forget the BS. Its left intentionally vague so candidates will have no recourse against them.
If you're expecting some kind of actual useful feedback on your performance you will be sorely disappointed.

kja2011ParticipantHi carolina_blues, thank you. I figured as much that the report is not worth the effort I'm spending trying to get a copy.
What I'm most frustrated with though is the fact that there doesn't seem to be one. For the hundreds of dollars I've paid the AICPA to take the exam I have nothing to show that I didn't pass except for an online advisory score that will disappear in a few weeks and the ability to re-register for the section, (which I've of course done). It's just weird. I have a regular hotmail email address so the fact that they just can't send me an email with the score notice attached or however it is that they sent to the rest of the candidates who did not pass is baffling. Classic AICPA/NASBA though I guess:)

AnonymousInactiveIts probably just better you turn the page on these matters. Focus on studying.
The score report is nothing more than another way for the AICPA to pile on a little more frustration onto the candidates trying to maneuver this whole ambiguous process. Just be thankful you don't reside in a state requiring you mail every bit of correspondence to their offices. I had my initial application LOST…TWICE. I spent 2.5 months time total waiting/trying to get my original app approved. Most of that time was lost believing there was no way mail could get lost once, let alone TWICE when their offices are merely a 20 minute ride from my post office.
If the AICPA would drop all the b.s. nonsense with waiting for scores and not answering your inquiries and requiring some people mail things and blah blah blah…this test wouldn't be NEARLY so challenging and I believe THEY KNOW THIS.
It's their form of water-boarding or “hazing” potential initiates while separating just as many dollars from their candidates pockets as inhumanely possible.

AnonymousInactiveI sat for BEC today.
The first testlet was easy and I blazed through it. The second testlet was definitely hard. I don't mean that it was harder, I mean the questions were just HARD. The final MC testlet seemed easier than the second but still harder than the first. As far as I know, the testlets only come in two difficulties — standard and hard — so I'm not sure what to make of the third one.
I would estimate that 6-8% of the questions I saw could have appeared on REG or AUD. Having passed REG, I'm sure that this material was mentioned in my REG prep but was not mentioned in my BEC prep. That was strange. Other than that, nothing jumped out at me as being unusual.
The writing topics seemed very good and really seemed to emphasize writing ability, perhaps more so than the sample topics I have seen. Still, a hard test overall and one I will be lucky to pass. We'll see, but I think this is going to be the one I re-take.

AnonymousInactive@lalala, I manage my stresses by coming on this board and thrashing the cr^p out of the AICPA by pointing out their inadequacies to the forum with every opportunity I'm presented.
I also recommend developing your critical thinking skills by reading up on Goldman, their relationship to the SEC and the non-existence of any police-department within the SEC to thwart the rampant corruption teeming throughout WallStreet. Read the Sarbanes Oxley act. Sure its worded to discourage most folks from trying (or else bore them to tears) and determine for yourself what it does and does not provide as far as re-assurance. Don't rely on what the review materials tell you The Act says. It has no teeth once you read through it thoroughly. Look at what Barney Frank and The Prez are pushing and see if it contains any more “teeth” to quell the criminal organization(s) dealing in dirivatives (which in and of themselves produce no added value to society). i.e. Goldman Sachs and NUMEROUS others. Understand the term “capture” with regards to SEC employees being retained to positions within firm's law offices which were being investigated by said SEC employee only weeks earlier. Ask yourself why there aren't cooling off periods (and other restraints) for SEC employees going to work for the very law offices they were just battling over their client's company's inability to follow the “rules”.
It may all be legal but it doesn't make it “right”.
If you allow yourself to get stressed out reading and bogged-down studying for these CPA tests you're likely to never see the forest for the trees. Its easy to get mired down in the minutia of detail in these study guides. Don't let it beat you. Remember these accounting rules are merely tools in your tool box. Don't lose sight of the big picture nor ever give-up trying to bring the big picture into focus for the minute you do give up; you've become a tool in someone else's toolbox and who knows if they're worthy of your merits.
