uglyowlMemberGood luck Saturday momof4!
I feel relatively confident with all sections except cost measurements, I am getting destroyed in that area.
I think my time though is better well spent improving IT and internal control since there are many more questions in those areas.
I just passed the 1,000 MCQ mark for all my prep today.
BEC : 07/28/2012 (89)
FAR : 10/29/2012 (86)
AUD : February 2013 (80)

momof4MemberThanks uglyowl.
My advice as far as cost goes is be able to work contriubtion margin for units and sales dollars. Understanding how fixed and variable cost behave with changes in sales volume is also fuel for a lot of questions. Those formulas are straight forward and can win you a lot of points.
CM=selling price minus variable cost
BE units= fixed cost / cm
BE sales dollars= fixed cost / cm ratio
cm ratio= cm/sales price
CVP analysis: When volume increse fixed cost per unit decreases, fixed cost total stays the same within relevant range, variable cost per unit stays the same within relevant range, variable cost total increases.
When it comes to budget variances if you can just calculate a materials or labor variance that may be sufficient.
When I took this exam the first time I really did not study much, maybe 30 hours. The only reason I passed was my exam was heavy with cost accounting (I think I can say that since it is in the topic coverage given by the AICPA). Cost accounting happens to be my strength. Now that was before all these changes, I took it in 2010.
Happy Studies.

JpgrochoParticipantQuick question. I just jumped in to studying BEC last Monday (23rd). I am using the 2012 Becker Self Study where I am trying to complete 2 chapters a week. I completed Audit with no problem. However, I have been down and dirty with BEC for four days now and I am still on Chapter 1 multiple choice questions. My question is….is there a light at the end of BEC using Becker? Like, less calculations and such? Is it normal for Becker BEC chapter 1 to be so tedious? Or, is this just BEC in general? I have my BEC exam scheduled for August 31st and already I am thinking of rescheduling. Thank you in advance for any advice.
10/03/12 AUD- 91!!!
12-07-12 BEC- 75!!! (Half way)
01/18/13 REG - 68, 78.
02/28/13 FAR -68, 65 11/6/13 PLEASE!!!!

JpgrochoParticipantThat's awful news. So, there is no hope in chapter 2!?! I guess we can only hope chapters 3-6 go by quicker.

momof4MemberHonestly I would reschedule if I could. I made it through all of the lectures but won't have time to do all of the questions. I plan on sampling all of them and focusing on areas where I need more help. My exam is Saturday. I considered rescheduling but it will throw off my next exam.
I'm going to give it the old college try. I think Ch1-3 in Becker are far more difficult than 4,5, & 6. So it does get easier. I did not like 6 because it is a superficial coverage of a ton of different topics.
Good luck everyone.

Here is something I tried that helped. I went through all the questions answering the non calculation questions to get a feel for all the questions. Then I went back for the calculations. For example, after I worked a couple of FIFO variable costing problems I skipped the others. They are time consuming and I had learned the basic concept. Ideally I would work them all but I am running out of time.

JpgrochoParticipantAs much as I would love to reschedule….I just don't think I can bring myself to do it. Worst case is that I'll just get some more exam experience I suppose! ha. I have high hopes of being done before Tax season. Good luck.
