wanxx043MemberSo I just took BEC yesterday morning, and I have to say that I definitely wished that I had focused more on some of the other chapters apart from cost accounting. In particular, I felt that the IT (B4 in Becker) was pretty heavily emphasized. Definitely more than I would have thought.
In particular, going into this exam, I was super stressed out about cost accounting, because I personally just hate that area. However, post-exam, I'd say, definitely work through the Becker materials and homework, but don't get too caught up in those complex multi-step problems that Becker gives. In reality, it seems like BEC tests more on whether or not you can adequately apply the overall idea rather than “can you do this complex multi-step cost accounting problem that encompasses everything that was covered in the chapter.”
However, I've only taken the exam once and from what I've heard, the questions you get can vary quite a bit, but I guess that's why BEC sucks so much.
@futuremdcpa, don't skip over the cost accounting section but at the same time, don't let it get you down. Because the homework questions take so long, it feels like you're going to have an exam of just cost accounting questions, but that's not the case at all. If you work through a few key examples a couple of times and understand the broad concepts and application, you should be more than okay for your exam on the 31st! But since you know that cost accounting is an area of slight weakness for you, make you understand the other sections pretty thoroughly! Good luck!

jtb328MemberBEC 5 is probably the biggest pain in to get through it took me about 5-6 hours to get through 120 questions. I did not do them all because I noticed by the time I got up to 100 the methods were just repeating. I also took BEC at the end of Q1 and variances were highly tested..not so much any of the other items in BEC 5.
I have BEC on saturday and I am slightly freaking out because I feel like I am just running out of time. The days go so quickly and I always set my expectation for what I want to get done in one day way to high!!! does anyone else have this issue!?

You're very welcome! I'm glad you found an inspiration to keep going from the few words I wrote. Always remember that what does not kill you makes you stronger and that with hard work and perseverance the word “impossible” becomes “possible”.
I came too far to stop now. If moving forward leads to death and moving backward also leads to death, I rather move forward and die (it's just a proverbe, otherwise I'm not ready to die and I'm too young to die (lol).
