Tina11MemberI took BEC today, for the 3rd time, and did not feel prepared. The first two times I figured it was me. Now I'm really feeling there's a disconnect with the study materials and the test. I used Roger's materials and they were great for FAR, REG and AUD. They don't seem sufficient for BEC. I'm close, just can't seem to pass. Todays test was way different than the previous two, much harder. For those who passed, and maybe I did :/, how did you prepare for all the COSO and COBIT questions?
FAR-68, 81
REG-86
AUD-91
BEC-69,74,?

AnonymousInactiveBecker did provide some newly tested material. “Italian Ice” stated certain material in some sections to be fairly new, “okay”. And Gearty – “again”, “again” some material are fairly new. ( If you listen to their lectures you know what I mean “okay”, “again”, “again”, “okay”. ) Although Becker covered certain new concepts, Wiley (purchased after I failed BEC using only Becker) provided material I did not find in Becker; if so, the concepts were barely covered…vice versa.
The review programs base their lessons, MCQs, and practice tests on questions the AICPA allows them to use or on the historical content of the exam. The problem is the AICPA will add new material in the cpa test bank – one reason why the review programs undergoes constant updates. New material in the test will definitely not be covered extensively by a review program (reason why we often see unfamiliar concepts or questions out of left field, resulting in a disappointing test score).
Add new material = Low pass rates = Increase retake application and exam fees = Increase Revenues for the AICPA.

AnonymousInactiveThis was the first part I've taken and I've gotta say, I'm pretty annoyed.
I think I failed. Which is fine, this for me was a learning experience of what its like, how to study, etc. Definitely didn't leave enough time for the essays, so I know next time I really need to manage time better.
But no variances? WTF I looked over this thread and different places and the consensus was that variances are tricky and deserve a good amount of attention. I thought variances were actually kind of easy, so I was prepared for this test. But there were none. Instead it was very complex IT stuff Becker didn't cover, or such small details of larger concepts.
I guess I was under the impression that the test was based on all 5 chapters and you had to know a good amount about all of them. I could have seriously only studied IT and a couple other small stuff and passed.

GVirgiLMemberi took my test today. i think i did really well on the MQC but only had 21 mins left to finish the memos. … i pretty much spent 7 mins on each. i was familiar with all the topics. but since i didnt have much time my memos were literally a paragraph long consisting of 5-7 sentences, if that. And the spell checker was awful to use it took at least 3 mins of my time.
i think i did great on the MCQ..not soo much on the WC.. and now im panicking b/c this was my retake. and the thought of studying for BEC again makes me sick…Do you know of anyone that was Weak on the WC and still passed ?
This time around. Jeff's study ninja and wiley's online test bank were a HUUUUGGGE help!
-keeping my fingers crossed.

AnonymousInactiveHey everyone…
I took my test about 3 days ago, and I also did not have a lot of variances. I heard that BEC is the only test that doesn't base the difficulty of the next testlet from your answers…I really hope that was the case. The entire time I was thinking (after talking to a friend who the previous day said that hers got progressively harder, or at least the 3rd testlet) that I must've done REAL bad because there were barely any calculations…maybe 5-6 per??? I'm really nervous for my score, I think I failed though… and I'm slightly discouraged. For one of the WC, I didn't know what the concept was really about, but did my best to answer. I think I did fine there… just really nervous about the fact that the MCQ weren't extremely hard… CPA is so confusing! Also, I agree that Wiley Test bank really helped. I am using CPAexcel and bought the testbank and it's helped a lot.
