I'm really freaking out… I take BEC on Tuesday. I really think I've pretty much memorized the entire testbank for Becker and Wiley 🙁 FML… I'm doing the AICPA released questions right now… I'm getting any calculation or variance analysis question correct… But literally everything else wrong 🙁

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

@Peanut and anyone else taking the exam in January: How did you all feel after the exam?

I just got out of BEC (literally a little over 40 minutes ago) and I feel like I did horribly. The only part that I was confident on was the last testlet (written portion) and I hadn't even practiced many of those on Becker. I took Becker live and feel that it was a complete waste of time. In addition, many of the sections that Becker emphasizes as heavily tested really aren't. How's that possible? I know that there could have been pretest questions on the exam–but I felt like I was doing terrible anyway.

Any words of wisdom or past experience from anyone?

I am studying for FAR starting next week and I'm starting to think I should purchase an extra review (such as Ninja). Any advice on how Ninja notes have worked for anyone?

    BEC - 86
    FAR - 76
    AUD - 73, 86
    REG - 61, 73, 82

    DONE!!

@msmeyer, I take my exam tomorrow. If you feel like your testlets increased with difficulty as you moved through them that is a good sign since the testlets are adaptive. I took the Becker live course for BEC back in 2010 and thought it was a waste of time too.. I decided to switch to self study. Did you feel like you had many questions not covered at all by Becker? Or that they felt out of left field?

Ninja notes are a great review a few days before an exam. Very cheap so it's worth it. The other thing I like to do is purchase an additional testbank. This has always pushed me over the hump to a passing score.

You never know, keep the faith!!!

Anyone have a rough guess on the amount of calculations to expect on BEC? I was surprised how many theory questions were on FAR and so few calculations. Obviously each test is different, just curious as to what to expect.

@Peanut–Thanks for the info. I did feel that the testlets got harder as I progressed. The second one was so hard that I decided to take a break right after to breathe a little. 🙂 As far as the questions, I felt like Becker does not do a good job on going in depth about COSO– It tells you to memorize a bunch of mnemonics and read through the material, but I don't think it makes you think logically about the concepts in regard to COSO as the CPA exam expects you to do. I did feel that a lot of topics that Becker emphasizes were left out and the ones that Becker under-emphasizes were heavily tested. Again, they could have been pretest questions…who knows. I can think of two or three questions where I was completely blank and had to work my logic on them in order to make educated guesses. I wish you the best on your exam tomorrow!

@CrownRoyal– I personally feel that you should know the calculations for BEC but, more importantly, you should also know the logic behind the calculations rather than just memorize the formulas. For example, you may get a question that is mainly theory but is based on a calculation. So you would need to know how to work it out. Something that looking back I should have done is to take a test bank question and change the scenarios on it. (i.e. what if tax rate increases/decreases, etc). To be honest, I used Becker and it seemed to me that the Becker final exams were more calculation-intensive than the actual exam was.

So I'm studying BEC, and I'm freaking out because everybody is talking about calculations, and I'm in chapter 2 and all what I hear is they don't get you theory, they get you calculations, so can anyone help me and tell me the way to study for it if you have done it before.

    Thanks in Advance!
