first post appears to have failed, trying again.

So throwing out my memory method for the 4 standard variances in case it helps someone else.
First, you need materials before labor (or MLK), direct materials is the first 2 equations, direct labor is the 2nd two
2nd PURE price, use, rate, efficiency
3rd is 1st and 3rd – similar to the “who's on first”? You use actual for 1st and 3rd formulas, standard for the others. (Use actual for what you can control as factory manager)
4th SAD standard -actual = difference

    dmP Sprice-Aprice x A materials used
    dmU Susage-Ausage x Sprice paid
    dlR Srate-Arate x A hours used
    dlE Shours-Ahours x S rate per hour

I misread the ERM part earlier.
It says the Sept 2017 CHANGES to ERM will not be tested until Q2 2018.
so ERM is tested, just the 2017 changes are excluded until next qtr.

@ReckedRacing I remembered PURE SAD DADS and that was my saving grace on variance stuff. It was the first thing I wrote down when I tested. Basically the same concept, just adds a mnemonic for the rest of it.

    Standard – Actual = Difference

    Price Difference – Actual
    Usage Difference – Standard
    Rate Difference – Actual
    Efficiency Difference – Standard

Have anything handy for Overhead Var?

Unfortunately, no. I never did come across anything that was easy for me to remember for those, so I had to think them through.

FWIW – There is a thread floating around here that has a huge list of formulas for BEC. I printed it out and kept it in my notes for when I answered questions. It was super helpful in me learning the frequently used formulas.

    AUD - 56 - 68 - 61 - 9/8/16
    REG - 75
    FAR - 7/15/16

Does BEC have any kind of research SIM?

I believe the answer is no.
I believe there is also no AL access to help you through any of the SIMs or WC.

If someone finds the thread with the BEC formulas referenced above, please post link in here. I'm beginning to study today with only 4 weeks, need to be super efficient. Thanks!

The way I remembered variance formulas is that you always multiply by the actual quantity or the standard rate/price (AQ or SP). So whatever it is you're looking for, find the difference between standard and actual then multiply by either the actual quantity or the standard rate/price. e.g. Direct material price variance, difference between standard/actual price, times actual quantity. e.g. Direct material efficiency variance, difference between standard/actual quantity, times standard price. Works for all variance formulas. As for unfavorable vs favorable just think about it logically. If the actual price of materials was higher than the budget then that's obviously not a good thing. If it took less labor hours than the budget said that's a good thing. Etc.

Thanks. I didn't think so, but wanted to make sure.

For some reason, I am just not as confident with BEC despite nearly 150 hours of studying. I had about the same number of hours studied for REG and found out the other day I scored a 91, so I was very happy with that. That was my first ever test so it was great to start with a success.

But I felt better about REG going in than I do with BEC. I do feel like I know the material well enough to pass, just don't feel like I have it “mastered” like REG.

My plan is to take the exam as soon as next week, just waiting on my NTS. These score release delays starting in Q2 are really killing me. I feel like I have to complete all 4 exams by June 10 so that it doesn't go into July and leave me waiting until the end of September for my score.

    @Jen

Congratulations!! You made it. And you made it really well! Happy for you 🙂

This will give me some encouragement although BEC is MY monster. Guess, other exams were too easy on me.

Well, congratulations to all of you who passed BEC on February 6!

Hope it is going to be my day soon. Feel like I will visit the moon before that happens lol

    Good luck all!

Need help with understanding the Depreciation aka Capital Consumption Allowance under Income Approach in calculation the GDP.

I have no problems with any other components, but this one is not clear. When I think about Depreciation, I certainly do not think about Income. I know I miss something, just do not know what.

Maybe an example will help me to understand this. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.
