@Jennifer sounds like it went better this time (heavy IT is a good sign). All the best!

@CoachEmUp – Heeeeeeeey there! So nice to see you around here. Yes, it definitely went better this time around and I am cautiously optimistic my journey has ended. But I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much in case it doesn't turn out that way.

@Smith I thought the SIMs were completely fine. Nothing to stress about, imo. Totally doable if you understand the concepts.

    @ Jennifer

Hoping for the best for you! I'm sitting for BEC next month, and despite the higher pass rates and people claiming it to be the “easy” one, there's definitely a wide range of material and a lot of it doesn't connect. I'm constantly doing review MCQ sets as I finish sections hoping everything sticks by the time I sit for it.

I don't want to break disclosure rules, but regarding calculations, were there many multi-step ones? I don't mind them so much as the time of using a calculator and breaking down multiple variables in a single MCQ taking up more time than I prefer to allocate per question, even without having to think about the equation and being confident in what I'm doing.

I will say to be familiar with them just in case, but as long as you know how to do it and properly allocate your time you'll be fine. I didn't have anything that took a really long time. I took my time on all the MCQs, spent close to an hour on the first SIM testlet, and still had an hour left at the end.

Does anyone have a link that shows exactly how the WC essays are graded since the exam changed last year? Thank you!

Hi Jennifer, best of luck! You will pass given how much effort you put in.

OK, I'm within the 24 hour mark, exam day is TOMORROW.

last 2 rounds have been 73's

I'm currently at an average of 73% (of course) on MCQ's. My strongest topics are Corporate Governance, Economic Concepts (which I was “weaker” last 2 rounds), and Financial management.
I've got the rest of this evening to focus on IT, Strategic Planning and Operations management… based on the threads above, IT should come first, but I can't seem to find where Strategic Planning falls on the score charts (from the last 2 times I took it).

I want to spend tomorrow AM on a quick MCQ review and simulations – I'm praying to do better on WC this round (I did great the first attempts but comparable the last).

Any words of wisdom? I really need the 75 on this. Reg expires in April and I have a FAR rematch in March…

@Tim… what did you do for a 97 in FAR? I missed it in Q3 last year, and retaking after I finish BEC tomorrow (see comment above, in praying mode). I used primarily becker the first round and didn't do well… these 2 are must passes b/c I can't lose REG (my husband will legit divorce me!)

@Pam – I would work on IT, then a little operations management to get at least a basic understanding of formulas, and then strategy. I would do this order since those seem to be areas tested heavily to not-so-heavily, and based on the AICPA weighting – 15-19, 12-16, and 10-14% per Wiley.

@Jennifer Thanks! I'm so nervous I'm sick to my stomach. I dream about this stuff so the 2 73's are just killing me. I'm worried a little about the WC just because the last time I didn't do as well. The SIMS seem to my downfall – I'm hoping the more solid I am on the MCQ's the better the SIMS will be for me.

Lots of praying to the CPA gods tonight.

Today I sat for BEC and I was also sick to my stomach with nervousness. I have only one more window (Q2) to sit and pass BEC or my first pass (FAR) expires. I got a 74 last window. I felt like I knocked the sims totally out of the park, but the MCQ first testlet seemed very difficult and second very easy. I'm not going to rest easy at all until I get a passing score appearing online….

@lurking_CPA I'm sure you did well! I only felt one time I knocked the SIMS out of the park and that was AUD and I got an 80… the SIMS have killed me these last couple attempts (I wish I had passed BEC before SIMS).

I go over to the test center in 2 hours so doing MCQs and praying.

I have to pass this and FAR before 4/20 (both previously attempted)

    @ Jennifer…Thanks for the tips!

@ Lurking – hoping for the best for you!

    @ Pam – good luck!

I'm assuming a decent amount of people here are using NINJA (MCQ at least)? Everyone always talks about Gleim's difficulty, but I have both test banks, and NINJA is beating me down way worse. I'm finding the NINJA MCQs asking questions which puts multiple concepts together and takes some real analyzing to understand what the question is asking (for me anyway). I'm going through Gleim for the same sections and the questions are way more straight forward. I do appreciate it though, as you learn from the ones you get wrong.

@Pam thank you for the encouragement

    @SBNY2K17
    thank you too

All i can really say is BEC is a tricky little thing.

But Pam is right… the last time I felt I “knocked the sims out of the park” as Audit and I blew my own expectations out of the water with a 85! I hope there is a similar effect here on BEC…. I managed to score stronger on WC both on the old BEC format (I did a “hail mary” on an expiring NTS without studying a few years back hence the 63 in 2014) and also score stronger on WC on last attempt at 74.

I am using CPA Excel and I feel with the format changes while the questions help you learn the concepts – the questions on the test are written out quite differently now. In fact, I felt AUD was the most similar to the review course questions and BEC was the least – with probably FAR the next closest to the test bank questions after AUD and REG somewhere inbetween FAR and BEC there.

If my CPA Excel wasn't free from my KPMG days… I'd not be using it frankly. It's a perfectly fine review course and for the money and fact it never expires – a deal… but if you are capable of fully committing to the process of passing – I think it really leaves a lot to be desired. It has WAY, WAY, too much content for FAR as some people have pointed out on this forum and elsewhere. You can not simply get through the FAR material with their built-in course scheduling.

Good luck on BEC you all… I'm praying for you all and myself for that Feb 6 release.
