MemberHi guys,
I am new to this, and just signed up. I am in need of some advice for the duration of my study plan. I am studying for both AUD and BEC right now. I am on A5 and I must finish both A5 and A6 tonight. I will then review B1-B3 tomorrow and B2 & B6 on Friday. The reason why I skipped B4&B5 is because I go to a live class on Saturday and figured I'd just do all the MCQ that evening. This is my first time taking these AUD & BEC. I will say A4 is a killer for me and from what I can see it is very similar to BEC in a sense. Hopefully this will be to my benefit when I take my exam on (AUD)Oct 2 and (BEC)Oct 3. Do any of you have any suggestions on what I should do? I was considering buying NINJA notes, Tim Gearty, isn't helping me, he is simple confusing me ha! I know I can do this, I do not have the option of pushing my test back because I start my job on the 4th. For now I am simply keeping a good attitude and tackling the task at hand.
@mgoloubenko: Also any topics that you may recommend me for to focus in on? Should I memorized each audit report word for word, and how about the US v. IFRS standards, and all the PCAOB standards?
Thank you for all of your help!

Member@omw2cpa..studying for two exam together is never my option. But taking BEC, and now studying for AUD, I do notice few similar topics.. But in sense of too much material in both section, I think its way too much material.
So B1 and A3 talk about Internal Control. For BEC, I would say W.C is alot easier then studying for AUD SIM. Essay is simple BS.
I dont think they would make you write an Audit Report on SIM. otherwise it would be WC for AUD.

Member@Shay,
Tracing is for completeness and Vouching is for existance. Tracing is more for making sure vouchers (Invoices) are recorded in the GL. Vouching is from JE or Financial Statement to a document that proofs that the exists for example revenue.
Post or tell me which MCQ you have problems with and I'll do my best to help.

Member@Sonyafm..thanks. yea I understand HOUSE example in becker. Vouch is going down from F/S or Accouting Records to all the way to Source Doc, to make sure source docs exist. (existence)
Tracing is going Up from Source Docs to F/S or Accounting records, to make sure its properly recorded, and its completed (completeness)
There are multiple questions in HW. I would have to go back to see which one specially.
I wanted to get overview or general understanding of concepts, rather than just taking one question from HW and memorizing it..
I think questions about “what should Auditor do”, to detect in the case of fraud, shipping docs , sales invoices, missing journal entries, cash distr, etc… . time of questions.

Member@Shay, By helping you I get to solidify my knowledge or a win win situation.
I used to have difficulties understanding the management assertions and how to read the question and decided what the auditor should do.
An example from Becker's CPA – 02443
To gain assurance that all inventory items in a client's inventory listing schedule are “valid” an auditor most likely would “trace”:
src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">For me the key words here are “Trace” (from source and up) and “Valid” (existence)
Trace tells me that I have to start from the source document which in this case is the inventory-listing to a document that will validate me the existence of the inventory in this case the “recorded count sheets”.
Example CPA-05488
“The auditor's inventory “observation” test count are “traced” to the client's inventory listing to test for which of the following statement assertion”
Key words: Observation test count and trace
Observation says that the auditor already tested the existence of the inventory count and the next step “up” or “trace” is that the inventory is on the inventory listing.
The correct answer is completeness
In this question they could have added that they traced it to the JE and that would still be completeness.
You read the question carefully and answer two questions:
1. Which way is it going up (Tracing) or down (Vouching)
2. What does the auditor want to verify or accomplish ( assertion ) COVER U
I believe you know pretty well the direction, the next step is to understand the assertions, what are they supposed to accomplish.
Completeness, cut Off, Valuation, Existence, Rights and Oblication and Understandibility
I hope this helps,

Member@ omw2cpa, I don't recommend brute force memorization of the reports because although it can be helpful I view it as a waste of precious study time. What is important is knowing how the the reports flow, which key statements are included in each, the difference in wording between reports, where the explanatory paragraph goes in specific situations, which paragraphs must be modified for different opinion types. Focus on the differences mostly, not memorization.

Member@Shay: Thank you!
@mgolubenko: Ok great, that definitely helps! I was wondering I am just about to get into A6 soon and I know I have to go back to A4 specifically the audit procedures by transaction cycles, and the sampling topic in A5. I thought I understood it but doing the hmwk in Becker and I didn't do so well. Do you use NINJA notes for audit? If so, are they helpful?

MemberAfter re writing the Ninja notes for section Auditing and IT I went over all the MCQ from Wiley for Auditing and IT and I got a 60….argggg! so I am going through the Becker book and re writing them too…then I'll go through the questions again and hopefully I'll get something in the 90s.
It doesn't look like a difficult section but I guess it's confusing for me…I am going to nail this section down today!!!
