JamesBJamesParticipantI'm alright with the NASBA sorting hat, but man, waiting 1-4 weeks for results is the worst. If I could bribe the Prometric attendant upfront to know my score immediately, I would.

ziebaParticipantDo you guys ever get the feeling that with AUD more than the others, a majority of the time it's almost too easy to spot obvious wrong answer choices? If you get a question that asks for a numerical reply all bets are off. I swear, sometimes all it takes it a slow read and you'll catch an extra “the” or “an” and wrong choices just float to the top. Other times, you can – about 95% of the time – rule out anything with an absolute governing term such as “all”, “always”, “never”.
60% of the time… it really does work all the time.
The only time is does not work is dual column, yes or no type MCQ's. There too, I have a feeling – and I've found this to be true for FAR as well, though I have no evidence – that it's usually more often than not Y/Y or N/N.

AnonymousInactiveI've noticed some of the word things but i try not to pay attention to tricks like that cause it'll mess up your brain and reasoning for the questions. It could be true for this but not on the exam.

ziebaParticipantWell, Gearty said it, so it must be true.
I'm not sure if that exam was your first sitting ever, but as you can see I am a test taking professional. I'm like the Evil Knievel of CPA ramps. My landing rate is just over 50%

AnonymousInactiveYes sir first sitting. Just dedicated to passing these exams and doing it right the first time. Take my time and get them over with in 2 testing windows.

ziebaParticipantI remain unimpressed. Earlier today, I read a post from a woman whose goal it is to pass all of them in ONE testing window. IIRC, she's halfway there. Insane.

ziebaParticipantanyhow, I'm going to call it a night. Scoring 85-95's on my 50 question practice runs of the easier sections of WTB. Tomorrow will be devoted to tackling the meatier Evidence, IC, and reporting portions.
Later guys.

CpachanceParticipantHey fellas, I'm new to the board and am taking audit for the first time Wednesday. I'm using becker to study and have gone through all the materials including the questions twice. I know that everybody studies differently but do you all have any input on ways you review in the final days leading up to the test that have seemed to be very beneficial?
May 25, 2014 at 3:14 pm #568763
ziebaParticipantI would go to Wiley Test Bank and sign up for their free 24 hour trial of wiley test bank and spend today and tomorrow drilling those… new questions, new blood, new ways of looking at a topic and representative of the type of q you'll see on the exam.
I also read Becker Final Review notes – which is a condensed 100 page version of the textbook – and keep hammering MCQ.
Oh, also, read about the authoritative literature. You will be using it to fish out the answers to one, but likely more, of your simulations. You should be familiar with its layout and how to navigate it.

AnonymousInactiveI the AICPA website also has a free practice exam. Not sure if they have one for every part but i would think so. I would recommend doing long tests of questions maybe 70-100 just to get your brain stamina in order so you wont get overwhelmed on the exam. Re-read any parts your unsure of. When your not studying think about possible scenarios and walk yourself through it in your head, for example conditions that would give rise to an unmodified opinion with an emphasis of matter or explicit statements that the report makes.

AnonymousInactiveAny thoughts on how to use the AL to work on simulations that deal with Audit objectives or substantive procedures for specific transaction classes?
I looked through the AL, but can't find “examples/samples.”
For example..substantive procedures for Property, plant and equipment. Is there a list of examples on how to test for assertions relating to PPE?
May 25, 2014 at 4:56 pm #568767
ziebaParticipantIt is my understanding that the AICPA pulled all prior “released questions” from the internet. All those hits for PDF links that were there are gone. Probably because the AICPA wants to be able to monetize everything.
The very basics of AL are to know how to use search and search within. Being familiar with getting multiple hits and then looking at the sections which they are contained within to then be able to follow the correct lead/link. I rememeber when I sat for my first exam (AUD) and a day before my friend said “you know you can use the AL to get the answers, right?” It had not occurred to me to do this. Sure enough, next day I used the AL to get an IC sim word for word.

ziebaParticipantGetting a question like this wrong really frustrates me… the answer is to “develop a program”… wth does develop a program even mean? one of the pros of using generalized audit software is that it allows someone who isn't very IT proficient to be able to navigate his way around a computer system… that same person is now going to “develop a program”? Rubbish.
Smith Corporation has numerous customers. A customer file is kept on disk storage. Each customer file contains name, address, credit limit, and account balance. The auditor wishes to test this file to determine whether credit limits are being exceeded. The best procedure for the auditor to follow would be to
Develop test data that would cause some account balances to exceed the credit limit and determine if the system properly detects such situations.
Develop a program to compare credit limits with account balances and print out the details of any account with a balance exceeding its credit limit.
Request a printout of all account balances so they can be manually checked against the credit limits.
Request a printout of a sample of account balances so they can be individually checked against the credit limits.
