kevindleyMemberI just had a question from Becker that makes no sense to me…
Essentially it says A CPA is disclaiming an opinion on unaudited f/s because they are not in conformance with GAAP due to management failing to capitalize certain leases. The CPA has suggested revisions but management refuses. Under these circumstances, the CPA should:
I chose the answer that says issue a qualified/adverse opinion depending on materiality.
However, Becker says the correct answer is to describe the nature of the GAAP departure in the CPAs report and state the effects on the f/s (if practicable).
I am confused because I thought a departure from GAAP or misstated f/s called for a qualified/adverse opinion, and the qualified/disclaimer of opinion was reserved for auditing process problems/scope/independence/going concern issues.
Also, Becker's explanation for why the answer I chose was wrong is useless (kind of like a “no duh” explanation). Basically it says that a disclaimer results in no assurance or opinion being given. Then it continues to say that a qualified/adverse opinion provides more assurance than a disclaimer. Oh thanks for clearing that up Becker, that's what I was confused on…lol

AnonymousInactiveThis is a tricky question. From my memory, the question states that its a review engagement? If not, please disregard my comment below.
You are correct. A departure from GAAP would be either a qualified/adverse depending on whether its pervasive or not. When performing a review on the financials, you're provided limited/negative assurance that there would be no material modifications to the statements for it to be in accordance with the applicable framework. When the accountant finds a GAAP departure in a review engagement, the accountant should disclose the departure in the accountants report.

JamesBJamesParticipantI just got done going through all the A2 HW questions, and let me tell you– that's an A2 question about reviews. I thought they explicitly said “review” in the prompt, but hey, “unaudited financial statements” suggests something with less scope than an audit.
A review offers limited assurance, but the accountant express no opinion. If the accountant finds a GAAP departure, he can't issue a qualified / adverse opinion because, well, it's a review. Instead, he modifies the report and talks about the departure in an additional paragraph right at the end of the report.

I've still got to re-read and re-do all of A3 today. Ugh. This is taking so much longer than I thought.

Thanks! I'm hoping I can keep the momentum going from FAR to AUD. It'll definitely help my confidence if I get in the 70s+ on the Becker practice tests, but I'm not doing those until Monday at the earliest, after I've re-done all the HW. Crossing my fingers.

katerina2665Participanti dont even know why im going on Wednsd… Im so tired and unprepared, i made myself a commitment to pass all 4 in 1 window, and i just have Aud left and i feel empty and depressed. Everything i read seems same to me from page to page. i remember when i studied for FAR i was sitting last 10 days before exam for 10 hours each day full of energy, now i just stare at the screen every day and wanna kill myself.. AUD is so blah, just tons of same unfamiliar words over and over again. I feel like even when i answer questions correctly, i dnt know why it is correct.
Has anyone ever found AUD uninspiring? thats a funny word to use for it i guess 🙂

JamesBJamesParticipantKeep at it, @katerina. Taking all four parts in one testing window is insane, and I still don't know how people do it. It's not the end of the world if you fail, but if you can just push through the monotony for a couple more days you'll be done with this stupid exam for life.

Your FAR score is crazy though 🙂 congrats, i got my FAR results also just now, and i think i never been this close to collapsing out of happiness (it was my 3rd time for FAR)

JamesBJamesParticipantI always go through the simulations once and then basically never touch them again. IMO, if I 1) understand the concepts behind the MCQs well enough and 2) know how to navigate the authoritative literature smoothly, then I'll be fine.
I think playing around with the authoritative literature and seeing what's in it and how things are structured is much more useful, anyway. Thank you, free 6-month trial.

ziebaParticipantyeah except some guys on here ran regression analysis which show becker's final exam to have an error in the range of 30% from advisory scored. so, take it with a grain of salt. we'll all be alright. remember! NASBA simply puts the names and scores into a drum and starts drawing winners
