Lucky for me, my Prometric center was open today after being closed for 3 days due to the hurricane. At first, I was hoping they’d be open on my test day. While my wish came true, I now wish they were closed. This test was a nightmare. I’ve gone over EVERYTHING in the Wiley book and everything Phil Yaeger highlighted. About 70% of the material I painstakingly studied were not on the freakin’ test!! I had to stop for a moment to wonder if I was even taking the right exam. About half of my multiple choice questions came out of left field. However, my Simulations weren’t so bad, which is something not many people here said. It was the mutiple choice that I found difficult. And I don’t even know if the testlets got harder. All 3 Multiple Choice testlets were extremely hard, IMHO. I’m so screwed. Here I was studying for 300 hours and I’m probably going to end up with a nice big fat 50!!! I’m so depressed. I don’t understand why the CPA exam is like this. It’s supposed to be on material that’s covered in the Wiley book. But it looks like they are testing on material that Wiley and Yaeger didn’t even cover.

In order to pass this, I’d either have to be one heck of a lucky guy or there’s going to be a nice big curve. But I seriously doubt this will happen. So, I’m expecting to have to retake REG. I’m at a loss for words right now. I don’t even know if any additional studying would’ve helped. I’m so annoyed. This is ridiculous!!

Sorry, I just had to vent.

I have to wonder if these Sims also adjust in difficulty. Because when I took AUD, I thought my MCQs were really easy and they hit me with ridiculous Sims. But when I took REG the first time and failed, my Sims weren't all that bad. They were reasonable. And now, when I'm pretty sure I did well on the MCQs this time, they hit me with the most ridiculous Sims. I'm telling you, I think they give you hard Sims if you perform well on the MCQs. The AICPA says no, but I beg to differ.

Why did this become a sticky thread??

Do you mind sharing your study method for REG? Looks like you passed FAR and AUD strong.

One of my friends told me that I need to study everything as EVERY SINGLE line from my Becker CPA book.

Which is … kind of impossible for my very limited time and very limited brain.

I will greatly appreciate your input.

@CPA-Go- I bought the Gleim book and software this time. I read over the topics that the Wiley book didn't cover. And I practiced over 1,000 MCQs on the Gleim software. Due to those brutal Sims I had, I cannot say for sure whether I passed since they're worth 40 points. But if I do pass this time, I can safely say that Gleim worked.

    @cpaman,

I agree with Mini, sounds like you did well. Keep the faith, my experience was somewhat similar to yours–although I was unsure of a few more mcq's than you–the sims were hard to assess. But remember last window, alot of people who passed thought their sims were brutal and still passed–there is hope!

I am hoping good news for you!

Thank you for your reply and input.

I have 4 days left and I am very2 nervous.

I know I have TONS of subjects to study and review, but my brain is refusing to retain anymore.

I'm frustrated dealing with myself now…

But I am sure you'll pass your REG this time, cause my friend got the same experience, and she got 82. 😉

    Thanks again for the input!

I took my exam yesterday and I didn't think the sims were too bad. One of them was completely out of left field, so I'm hoping that was the pretest. Luckily I found the research question right away…

I shouldn't be too worried. My experience with REG today is exactly the same as my experience with AUD. So, there's a good chance that I passed. I'll keep my fingers crossed until Dec 7th when the final set of scores are released. It's less than 3 weeks away, yet it still feels like such a looooong wait.

You managed to do quite well on FAR. What ended up working for you? was it a combination of things or did you find the magic potion the last time around? I will be getting my results tomorrow but iI know I failed for sure because of the sims. The multiple choice was okay but I got bombed with 7 humongous sims (2 statement of cash flows – direct method!!!!) and I ran out of time – i only did like 4 out of 7 and I would love to pass the 2nd time around. I studied with Beckers and I loved the lectures and I think they prepared well for MC but their sims were nothing like the real thing.

took REG on 11/19 and it was a nightmare. 1st testlet was hard, 2nd testlet couldn't tell if it was more harder but noticed some questions were wordier, 3rd testlet was easy. Definitely leave plenty of time for SIMS. i had 50 min and ran out of time, think i spent the first 20 min trying to figure out what the heck the questions were asking. i might have done average on 2 of the SIMS at best, couldn't find the research question, and left 1 SIM completely blank

ima try to be positive but looks like its gonna be another retake for me

    REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79
    BEC-60's,60's,69,71,76*,78
    FAR-67,66,65,79
    AUD-54,60's,65,83*,69,80
    *expired

    DONE

@Pellerific- FAR was such a struggle for me. It took me 5 attempts to pass. Each time I retook the test, they seem to hit me with a lot left field questions. Even when I got that 89, there were a number of MCQs that I was unsure of. Testlet 1 was the only testlet I felt I did ok on. Testlets 2 and 3 were a blur as they became insanely hard and half of the questions, I had no idea what they were asking. So, the fact that I got an 89 just shows how insanely curved FAR is. I think it's the most curved out of all 4.

Anyways, back to your question. I had to rewatch all my Yaeger lectures and take intense notes. I then bought their CRAM course and rewatched them looking out for anything I missed when I took notes during the HomeStudy lectures. I then bought the Gleim software and did around 1,100 practice MCQs.

@nolifecpa- REG is so strange. This time I retook the test, it actually felt like I was taking REG. I knew most of the questions, so I expect a significant increase in my score this time around. But I'm telling you, when I first took the exam back in August, I got the weirdest exam. I have to wonder if they gave me the wrong exam or something. About 90% of my questions were foreign and I was guessing my way through the test. It was so strange. REG is very random. Sometimes you get an easier test and sometimes you get a horrific test. Very strange.

I took REG yesterday. I didn't think it was that bad overall compared to what people have been saying on here. Maybe I was just really prepared? I don't know, but I'll find out in 3 weeks.

Red, please share:) I'm considering using another review course for REG. Becker was horrible x 2. I was highly disappointed. LOL.

    AUD - Passed:)
    FAR - Passed:)
    REG - Retake TBD
BEC - Missed by 3 points Retake TBD
