I just purchased the Gleim Sim Wizard to supplement since I suck at Reg SIMs. Tonight – finish R3 homework and take Progress exam on R3. Have tomorrow off, hope to get a solid 8 hours in…My plan is by the end of the weekend to be wrapping up all the tax sections and move into the B-law next week.

Going to be a long boring weekend πŸ™‚

    Hi, Please kindly help

Mintee Corp. an accrual-basis calendar-year C Corp, had no corporate shareholders when it liquidated in Year 1. In cancellation of all their Mintee stock, each Mintee shareholder received in Year 1 a liquidating distribution of $2,000 cash and land with tax basis of $5000 and a FMV of $10500. Before the distribution, each shareholder's tax basis in Mintee stock was $6500. What amount of gain should each Mintee shareholder recognize on the liquidating distribution?

    The answer is $6,000

Can anyone please help me with this question? I don't know how to calculate this one

Tim and Nicole Wendler were divorced in 2011. Under the terms of their divorce decree, Tim paid alimony to Nicole at the rate of $60,000 in 2011, $25,000 in 2012, and nothing in 2013. What amount of alimony recapture must be included in Tim’s gross income for 2013?

    $0

    $10,000

    $35,000

    $47,500

Anyone would like to answer this question?

Reposting for mightyjet from Q1 thread that I closed:

Individual Lark's Year 2 brokerage account statement listed the following capital gains and losses from the sale of stock investments:

    Short-term capital gain

    $ 6,000

    Long-term capital gain

    14,000

    Short-term capital loss

    4,000

    Long-term capital loss

    8,000

In addition, two stock investments became worthless in Year 2. Public Company X stock was purchased in December, Year 1, for $5,000, and formal notification was received by Lark on July, Year 2, that it was worthless. Private company Section 1244 stock was issued to Lark for $10,000 in January, Year 1, and was determined to be worthless in December, Year 2. What is Lark's Year 2 net capital gain or loss before any capital loss limitation?

    a.

    $2,000 net capital loss.

    b.

    $7,000 net capital loss.

    c.

    $8,000 net capital gain.

    d.

    $3,000 net capital gain.

why is the 5k worthless stock included but not the 10k?

I may have or may not have met my goal…… I decided that working out with my wife would be fun and only got an hour of studying in…..as the excercise class kicked my butt. I did get through half of the income section. I am going to try and make it up tonight/this weekend.

    @golfball7773

I met half of my goal yesterday. At the end, I fell asleep in the middle of R3 homework.

It's so hard to keep balance between work & study. I sometimes wonder how other candidates can work long hours during the day and study so crazy in the evening.

So, tonight, I need to finish the rest of R3 homework, or, I'll have too much need to do over the weekend.

Don't worry about not finishing the goals. Our aim is to focus only on quality not quantity.

But we all tried to touch the finish line.

I also finished half of module35: finished 72MCQs from Wiley. Have to wrap up individual tax today.

    Good luck all!!!!

It is tough to stay awake after a long day at work, thus I go exercise. Then I exercise so much that I am too tired to study any more πŸ™‚ Plus being newly married, I want to be able to devote some time for my wife as well..
