Nooooo, you DEF recognize gain. They want your tax money, and when you sell smth with profit – it's a taxable event! However, you can NEVER recognize loss, because losses offset gains, and you can just sell depreciating property from a father to a daughter and then back to a father etc every single year and thus you will decrease your tax liability.

It's a possible tax avoidance and IRS is not going to let you use such trick

…just think about it that way!

    Hope it helps!

    of course, thanks!

I just realized I'm very weak with ACE and AMTI…my exam is tomorrow. should I spend any time on this or just keep doing random MCQ? I feel like it wasn't emphasized much and when I get a question it is rather complex so I have no clue what to do.

I would focus on random instead of AMTI and AMT as it is so uncommon to see a question…..

It really is yet I just got a SIM on a practice exam and totally bombed it so it kind of got me worried. But I think my time is likely better spent reviewing other things at this point

So, my grade for REG was a 63. I looked at my Score Notification Service Report, and here it is:

    Ethics & Legal Responsibilities (15-19%)………..STRONGER

    Business Law (17-21%)……………..WEAKER

    Federal Tax Process (11-15%)…….STRONGER

    Taxation on Property Transactions(12-16%)……….COMPARABLE

    Taxation on Individuals (13-19%)……COMPARABLE

    Taxation on Entities (18-24%)……COMPARABLE

This looks good to me, to be honest. So, since I received a 63, does this mean I bombed the simulation section?

I got the following question in Wiley and I'm not sure about the answer.

Kneenober Corp., an accrual-basis calendar-year C corporation, liquidated in 2011. In cancellation of all their Kneenober stock, each Kneenober shareholder received a liquidating distribution of $5,000 cash and land with a tax basis of $4,000 and a fair market value of $8,750. Before the distribution, each shareholderā€™s tax basis in Kneenober stock was $7,000. What amount of gain should each Kneenober shareholder recognize on the liquidating distribution?

According to Wiley, the correct answer is $6,750 but I chose $0.

Just took Reg. I could either be done with this blasted test or I could be on the hook for a retake. At the end of the day I found Reg the most challenging, but that may have been due to the burnout I've been feeling over the last couple of weeks.

Time will tell. Good luck to anyone else who is sitting on the last two days of the window.

How would it be different if it were a partnership? that always trips me up.

In a partnership you don't recognize a gain or loss in liquidation. If this were a partnership, the basis in the land would be $2000 since that's the basis that would be left after the cash distribution.

While waiting on my AUD score I went over R1.

Having 0 tax experience I feel that this is going to be easy compared to previous exams.

Taxation seem very straight forward to me, I dont know about business law tho šŸ™

This may have been asked in a previous post, but when are the updated materials for the 2014 tax law coming out? I have all 2013 tax law in Ninja audio and Wiley test bank. I want to be sure that I knock this test out this time around!
