I’ve had a few requests for April/May Study Groups…March will be here before you know it.

In order to take an early April exam, you should begin studying…now. 🙂

@Lindrobe. I have Becker and I have also purchased the Ninja MCQs. I did reschedule from this Friday to Thursday May 29th. This will give me time to work more of the Becker MCQs and the NINJA MCQs. I also need to get all those mnemonics down. I am trying to write down the things that I keep getting wrong hoping that will help me with retention also.

Simmy, it seems like you are on track. I think plowing through a ton of MCQs will help. I think that the key to learning from the MCQs though is knowing why each answer choice is wrong/right. For questions I miss and even some that I get right, but are not 100% sure on, I always look at the explanations. I like the Ninja flashcards a lot too. Or, maybe even try making your own flashcards. Just trying to help.

Thank you SO much @MikeHoncho. I don't know why I couldn't find an explanation as clear as yours in my review guide 🙁

Hi everyone. Could someone explain to me the following Ninja flashcard?

In a like-kind exchange; how is it handled if a netting of mortgages results in net boot paid?

Answer: DO NOT subtract the boot paid amount from the cash received; ignore the boot paid amount from the mortgage completely.

    AUD 2/3/14, 90
    BEC 4/1/14, 88

If the taxpayer ends up with a larger mortgage than he gave up, this “boot paid” reduces the amount the taxpayer realized. It doesn't reduce boot received or called “cash received” on the notecard.

Does that help? The notecards worded a little strange but I think that's what it's trying to say

In my notes, I just had written down that gain = lessor of realized gain or boot received

So, is the notecard basically just saying that when calculating the boot received, only any cash received is considered since the netting of the mortgages resulted in boot paid.

Thanks for your help, Mike. And, good look tomorrow with REG. I will be rooting for you on score release day.

Oh my lanta. I was reading the newest posts on here and it just hit me…. I have the ninja flashcards on my ipad!! COMPLETELY forgot. 10 full days until my test. Well, these will be much easier to read/focus on for an upcoming long road trip this weekend than trying to read tiny-printed mcqs and writing on scratch paper to solve them…

    Ha!

And I am starting to freak out about the test. I feel like I know most of the material and now it is a matter of cementing down some of the finer details so I don't get them confused on test day. I'm at the point where I see REG questions in just about everything I do at work. Everything. Everything I look at is being turned into a REG question in my mind.

I need to get this thing over with…

That will work out perfect, Amanda. I personally love the Ninja flashcards. I went to HI in March and took my IPad with the flashcard app and it worked out great. I only paid $1 for the flashcards for each section during one of the specials, but I would pay way more than that for them.

I don't think that they are quite as effective for me as say rewriting notes. But any studying is better than no studying!

It is funny how everyone learns differently. I did my own notes for FAR and AUD, but quit doing it for BEC and REG. It doesn't help me. I did start making a one page note sheet that I review from time to time and will use the morning of the exam for a quick review.

Not to mention you have to switch up your methodology for each section! I was always an A-B student but I can tell you I never quite learned HOW to study until I started all this!!
