    Hi all,

Thought I would start up this thread if anyone else is sending in their CA license application around this time. I will keep it updated and hope to help anyone else going through the same process. I really hope I get my license by 12/31/13 so I can truly say I am class of 2013! Sent my paperwork in via certified mail – return receipt. Now the waiting game begins…..

Chances are no one will be looking you up or coming by your listed address without notice, but I don't want anyone to know where I live unless I tell them myself. šŸ™‚ There is way too much info about me online as it is…..

Hearing news about when applications and approvals were sent has allowed me to better anticipate when I might expect my approval letter. I'll share my dates in hopes that it might help others:

12/27/13 – Application received by CBA

01/09/14 – Received postcard stating application was received

01/10/14 – Check cashed by CBA

01/17/14 – Received letter recognizing that I passed all 4 parts

Based on what I have seen, I'm hoping for an approval letter around the middle of February.

Tough_kitty, I used to work for BOE for four and half years. Now I work for federal. I just past my CPA examine, too. I tried to get the state sign my experience since beginning of November. Finally the local office said they forward to Sacramento for second signature on January 8 which is about two months I mail the form to BOE local office. The local CPA coordinator told me it will take another 30 to 60 days. If I don't get any respond from BOE,contact her 60 days later. Than she will follow up. I don't understand why it will take that long to have them sign the paper even though I am not work there anymore. Do you know any contact person I can call to check the update in Sacramento? If you do, can you let me know? I really want to get my CPA license. Thank you!

Hey, I'll try to get back to you tomorrow from work. They told me 30-60 days too because they have to verify your employment dates with HR but it actually took 2-3 weeks, so no worries! Which dept did you work for? And do you think federal is better?

I was a sales and use tax Associate tax auditor and on the list for supervisor I the time I left BOE. I just tired of doing the same thing over and over, so I decide to work for Fed and thinking more opportunities. My friend work for EY CPA firm and she tries to convince me to work for private. You will get pay much more than state and Fed, but you loss the freedom to take vacation any time you want as long as you keep your audit current. I was top performance auditor at state local district office and Fed. If you want to gain your experience for opening your business without working for private CPA firm, I think Fed is another one agency you should try.

    Good Morning,

So, I read your post again. Who is your local CPA coordinator? As far as I know, there is just ONE and she is located in Riverside, and the person who signs second is located in San Diego! Even though I am at HQ, that's where my papers had to be sent as well!

    BOE CPA Coordinator

    Jeanine Candelaria, CPA – 951-961-5503

Not sure if I can post her e-mail address here, but you know the format, so I am sure you can figure it out šŸ˜‰

As I said, they were pretty fast with mine and I actually got copies of the signed form and the letter they mailed to the CBA, so I knew it was done.

So, you were an ATA for SUTD? That's cool. I tried to transfer but no such luck….Maybe it's better because everybody says it's easier to get a promotion at HQ. BTW, did you take the BTS test? That's usually the next step after ATA. Not that many openings for STA…..

When you are saying Fed, do you mean IRS or some other department? I still need to find $700 to pay for the US citizenship and I am limited to Sacramento area in terms of my job search so not sure if there are any federal agencies over here that I could consider.

Hope you get your license soon!

I talked to the one in riverside and she said she forward to HQ. I used to work for Irvine. Yes I took supervisor examine and on the top 3 rank. Now I work for IRS. Once you pass your citizenship you can apply all fed job. Not limited IRS. My friend work for DCAA. It's a nice agency too. If you are willing to move, you will be promote super fast. My problem with state is I am not working for state anymore so it take forever to act on it. Thank you!

Yep, it was only a 30 min drive for me on my day off and I wanted them to get it ASAP. It's a VERY nice older building surrounded by mature trees (very pretty). They have multiple offices there for Dept of Consumer Affairs and the security downstairs let me in without a problem.

CBA has its own suite on the second floor and a window where they see the public….behind that window there are 3 cubicles. There was a girl at the one of them so I rang their desk bell and she was able to help me out…..but she wasn't very knowledgeable about stuff…. She said it would take about 6 weeks or longer if they are busy! She gave me a receipt for my check.

What I did find amusing was a piece of paper next to that window listing multiple languages and sayings: “Point at the language you speak”…so if you don't speak English they could get you a translator….I was wondering – how can one become a CPA without speaking a word of English?!?!? But maybe they have other customers there as well…..

Anyway, it seemed like a very small office, so maybe they don't have that many people processing our applications….

    @tough_kitty

Just be patient… According to previous replies in this thread, it can be up to three weeks before they cash your check.

FYI, I mailed my check two weeks ago, and they still not cashed it till this moment. Waiting is long but it will come to you eventually.
