    Wiley / NINJA “Servergate” Giveaway!

The What: 20 Winners … 10 Wiley Single Section Software pins winners (retail value $105 each) / 10 NINJA Study Guide Single Section winners (retail value $67 each).

The When: Friday September 23, 2011

The How: Post in this thread the following …

    1. Your Score(s) from the July/August Window

    2. The study material(s) you used

    3. If you passed – a success tip to pass onto fellow candidates.

If you didn’t pass – something different you’re going to tweak the next time around.

Winners will be randomly chosen using a random # function in Excel and the corresponding post # in this thread will be the winner beginning with 10 Wiley winners and then 10 NINJA winners. For instance, if there are 100 posts, and I set the random cell generator between 1 and 100 and it picks cell 26, then the 26th post author will be chosen. I login per candidate only (and I can tell if you have more than one login) 😉

    1) AUD-85 & FAR-89

    2) Becker online

    3) Watched each lecture and took notes, read and took notes, did the MC. When I got to the end of a module I reread the module and did all of the MC again. The last week before I sat I reread the book again, listened to lectures for areas I was still weak and did all of the MC again.

Getting reading to start prepping for BEC in October and Reg in November, planning on doubling up on study courses so I don't get too confident.

    FAR-89

    1. AUD – 75 FAR – 57

    2. Becker Self Study

    3. I did not study enough for FAR (obviously). I took a new approach with AUD and it seemed to work better. I sectioned the studying into smaller pieces so I could feel accomplished after my study session. I plan to use this technique going forward…1 down 3 to go!

    1. AUD 59…BEC???

    2. Becker but it's hardly fair to say then when I didn't study as much as I should have. It has nothing to do with the quality of their materials if I didn't put them to good use.

    3. Study more! For the most part, we're all in the same boat. We work with numbers all day at what are hopefully challeneging careers. This can make for a long day and by the end of it, my brain is zapped. If there's one thing I'm learning, it's that 4 hours spent studying on a Wednesday isn't the same as 4 hours on a Saturday. I know myself well enough to know I don't operate well under sleepless nights and I retain more when I'm refreshed. 4 hours on a week night could reap the same benefits as 2 hours on Saturday morning. This means, week nights I'm going to do as much as I can but the weekends for me are when it's really going to count. No more house projects here and there, no more random errands or going back home to visit family. I'll be much better company once I pass so for now, it's time to lay low and study.

    1. AUD – 72

    FAR – 74

    2. Exammatrix

    3. I should have supplemented with more MCQ's. I got the ones I had down pat. Took notes on those I did not know and reviewed extensively. I passed the other two parts rewriting Ninja Notes in addition. So, i'm using Yaegar for AUD and Gleim for FAR. Do not have much time, so probably won't rewrite notes this time. Wish I had done that earlier.

    1. FAR 86

    2. Becker/Ninja Notes

    3. MCQs ad nauseum, also make sure to work the SIM example problems available. While they are not the same as what you'll see on the exam, it is good to be able to understand the tools available when you are working the SIMS.

    NTS #457 - Northern Virginia
    FAR - 08/2011 - 86 - Becker
    BEC - 10/2011 - 83 - Becker
    AUD - 11/2011 - 84 - Becker
    REG - 02/2012 - 85 - Becker

    Audit 93 Becker

Do all the multiple choice questions multiple times. You may think you know something but getting the MC wrong shows that you need to know it more it detail. Read every question extremely carefully and check your work. Be very comfortable with the material. I was able to breeze through multiple choice and have two hours left for the sims. You shold supplement Becker simulations with something else also. I was lucky enough to get CPA Excel for free and they were great for simulations.

    1. REG – 89

    2. Becker

    3. In the 3 days before the exam, read through the entire book covering only highlighted and marked material. Anything important you read that is not committed to memory, write down on a sheet of paper. Review that paper the 30 minutes before test time.

    REG-59, FAR-67

    I used Becker.

I believe that I bombed these sections because I had an extreme mental breakdown each week before the exam and refused to look at any more questions/material. Hopefully I'll stay sane enough this time to handle it.

    1. FAR 79

    2. I used Becker and Gliem and Ninja Study Guide

    3. I did as many multiple choice questions and I could possibly handle. I marked the questions I got wrong and would go back and redo them during my review process, If I still got one wrong I would write it down. I also re wrote my entire Ninja Study Guide twice and read it over multiple times and the morning of the test. The day before an exam I don't really study. I don't want to burn myself out before the real thing. So I just read over my study guide twice and relax the rest of the evening. The biggest tip though is to committ a lot of time. In the words of Tim Gearty, “There is an inverse relationship between happiness and likeliness to pass”

    1 FAR – 78, BEC – 75, AUD – 84 REG – 49, 66 (July/Aug window)

    2 Becker Self Stufy DVD

3 I write out my own flash cards over and over when doing the MCQ – I find it helps reinforce the knowledge – just a shame I can't get it to help me pass REG – so would welcome ANY tips here to help – it's my final one!!

    FAR – 89

    AUD – 85

    I used Becker self-study.

The only tip I can give is to submerge yourself in the material. I probably studied 8-10 hrs. a day for the 2 weeks leading up to the exam and 3-5 hrs a day for the 3 weeks prior to that. The thing that helps me the most is doing tons of MC questions and if I miss a question I take notes on that question and then go over them.

    AUD-74, REG- ??, BEC ??

    I used Becker Self Study

I did not pass because I did not study enough. I did pass FAR on the first try with Becker and did pass because I focused on reading the material on my own (lectures did nothing for me) and REALLY learning the concepts. I would re-read the material over and over until I could recite the rule/formula/…. then after I learned all the material I did all the MC and that really worked for me. I felt like I did excellent on the MC on the exam. I did not do the Becker Simulations and I probably should have because I did not do well on the SIMS on the exam yet I still passed due to the hard work on the MC.

    FAR- 75
    REG- 82
BEC- 73, 79!! Its over. Am I dreaming?
    AUD- 74, 74, 88
