    Wiley / NINJA “Servergate” Giveaway!

The What: 20 Winners … 10 Wiley Single Section Software pins winners (retail value $105 each) / 10 NINJA Study Guide Single Section winners (retail value $67 each).

The When: Friday September 23, 2011

The How: Post in this thread the following …

    1. Your Score(s) from the July/August Window

    2. The study material(s) you used

    3. If you passed – a success tip to pass onto fellow candidates.

If you didn’t pass – something different you’re going to tweak the next time around.

Winners will be randomly chosen using a random # function in Excel and the corresponding post # in this thread will be the winner beginning with 10 Wiley winners and then 10 NINJA winners. For instance, if there are 100 posts, and I set the random cell generator between 1 and 100 and it picks cell 26, then the 26th post author will be chosen. I login per candidate only (and I can tell if you have more than one login) 😉

    1. AUD 63, BEC (Still unknown as of 9/23)

    2. Lambers; I didnt really read or “study” the materials, just practiced a lot of MCQ's on the courseware. FYI for those CPA's to be on the go, Lambers has ipod courses that you can load onto your ipod or ipone and listen to/watch anywhere.

    3. I failed AUD because I did not study enough. I didnt even attempt that many practice MCQ's. To start, I only gave myself 3 weeks between BEC and AUD (took BEC on 8/1 and AUD on 8/27), and of that entire three weeks I may have actually sat down at the computer 4 of those days? Which probably amounted to less than 10 hours of actual study time… Even so, I went into the test with a positive attitude and did not defeat myself before I even started. I used the full time alloted and answered every question with confidence, although more than half were just educated guesses. And some were just complete shots in the dark.

BEC was a little different, I practiced a lot of MCQ's and referenced the study materials for questions I got wrong or concepts I couldnt understand. I probably studied for upwards of 30 or 40 hours. I went into the exam confident and answered the questions to my best ability. In the testlets, I flagged and skipped the questions that I didnt know immediately and came back to them once I had navigated to the end of the testlet. This kinda gave me an idea percentage wise of how well I might be doing.I definitely feel I did better on BEC than AUD although this borderline theory is beginning to scare me. It would be nice to recieve a passing score on BEC because my AUD score has me a little down.

    B - 79 PASSED (1/4 there!)
    A - 77 PASSED (1/2 there!)
    F - 79 PASSED (3/4 there!)
    R - 83 PASSED (DONE!!!!!!)
Review Course: Lambers , Wiley and Ninja

Failed BEC with a 69 and FAR with a 67 =/ I used becker live course and did mcq atleast 3 times. With BEC, I concentrated too much on the number crunching problems and on my test I got 90% theory questions. So I will be going for it again and hoping I concentrate on all aspects of the exam. With FAR I screwed up on the simulations. I actually froze and cried during the exam because it's like I knew the material but didn't know what to do on the day of the exam. I am going to lose my REG credit because I haven't been able to pass the rest.

My advice keep practicing MCQ's and really learn and understand the concepts. I believe that's how I nailed REG.

    1. REG – 68

    2. CPAexcel

    3. I plan to give myself more time to study. I started studying 3 weeks before the exam, and moved to a different state during that period.

    1. REG – Still waiting, after 3 painful experience

    2. Becker

    3. Speaking form my experience, supplement to Becker is a MUST, their course package for REG is insufficient by itself at best. I would stress again, relying on solely on Becker is a bad idea. Their simulation practices don't even come close with reality (what's on the test), consider that's now 40% of your grade, their study package simply won't do it. (You might get by in the old days when Sim is only 25% plus writing, but NOT NOW…)

Speaking from my personal painful experience… if you have already invest so much money and time into this CPA beast. Getting some supplement as extra insurance will definitely worth it.

    Much grace everyone!!!

1- Still waiting on my BEC score for this window, but I passed AUD with an 85 last window

2- Wiley book (every page) and MCQ from “CPA Exam Review for Free” website

3- Tip- Log every single hour and week that you study, and what you studied, so that you can make a chart and compare everything you did differently for each section to see what worked and what didn't work. I repeated MCQ that I got wrong the first time, took a day off before the exam for a final review, and did every MCQ on the CPA Review for Free site at least twice on my smartphone (waiting at appointments, in bed at night, on my lunch break, etc)

    AUD- 85
    BEC- 71, 75
    REG- Apr 2012
    FAR- July 2012

    1. AUD 76

    2. Becker and Ninja notes

    3. I did every mcq in the becker software once and reviewed the material to the questions I didn't know. The Ninja notes helped me with my last minute review.

    1. AUD – 69, BEC – ???

    2. Wiley book and focus notes

    3. Didn't study enough for audit.

I plan to redo all MCQs/sims in the book, study the focus notes in detail, and use Wiley test bank for more practice.

    1. Reg- 82, Audit- 84

    2. Becker online for Reg and Becker online plus Wiley test bank for Audit.

    3. Make a study schedule and stick to it. I found that by studying for three hours before work, an hour at lunch and one to two hours after work I was able to keep a half way decent life at night and on weekends. And I also realized I focused better in the mornings than after a full days work, so I spent most of my study times in the morning. Waking up at 4 AM wasn't fun, but to me it was worth it to have more time for myself on nights and weekends.

    Reg - 8/7/11 - 82
    Audit - 8/29/11 - 84
    FAR - 10/26/11 - 79
    BEC - 11/21/11 - 80

    1. BEC 81

    2. Yaeger HomeStudy with Wiley book/test bank. Supplemented with Jeff's NINJA notes and Becker flashcards

    3. Go into the exam with a time management plan and a big scoop of confidence even if you don't feel 100% prepared.

    Great idea, Jeff!

    1. Well im one of the people stuck waiting for the final wave of BEC scores to release

    2. This time around I used Kaplan online and self study…when i passed BEC the first time I used Becker

    3. If you do pass…make sure you pass the other parts before the 18 month deadline..because i had 3/4 parts passed and now have none…unless i get good news on BEC this time. REG was the death of me…studying to take it this coming November..maybe 7th time will be a charm (no joke). I would recommend just being consistent with your studying..dont fall off track..you put in the effort and most likely you will be rewarded.

    1. Scores from the July/August Window: FAR 88; BEC 83

    2. The study materials: NIU Correspondence CPA Review & Gleim Software (for both)

    3. A success tip: Make notecards only for the material you always forget or don’t understand after studying the material and doing some MCQs. It’s the best way to tackle your weak areas.

    FAR 88 (07/15/11)
    BEC 83 (08/31/11)
    AUD 81 (10/15/11)
    REG 83 (11/26/11)

    Used NIU Correspondence CPA Review

    1. FAR 72

    2. Becker Self Study

    3. Didn't have a great study plan and ended up getting through 2/3 of the material and not reviewing any of it!
