Thursday challenge is a little different today! I’ve noticed a fair amount of threads popping up about staying motivated. It’s hard to keep grinding through this process and I completely understand and appreciate the need for motivation and support. One of the biggest ways to stay focused and working hard, IMHO, is to remind yourself of why you are doing this in the first place!

I challenge everyone today to post why you are taking these exams and what your license will mean to you once you have it! It will remind you of what you are working so hard for and it’s also very motivating to read other’s responses. I’ll go first!

I’m taking the CPA exam so I can make partner at my firm. I want to provide a comfortable life for my family and I would take a tremendous amount of pride in having an equity slice of a firm at the ripe old age of 30. That’s why I won’t stop until I see those 3 beautiful letters after my name!!!!!

Are you in???? Then tell me why!!!!!! 🙂

    GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂
    Licensed Michigan CPA 🙂

    -You better work, b***h!
-Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.-JFK

I had heard all the stories and thought I wouldn't be able to pass if I tried. Then, I got tired of going to interviews and hearing about how so and so has their CPA while I walked away without the job.

My BS degree in accounting is from a local college that closed due to poor management. Even though they had a good business school, I still get questioned about it. I think having ‘passed cpa exams' on my resume will help with that.

Passing all parts will mean I had the guts and determination to make it through. It will prove that, yes, I'm worth it. That I can conquer math word problems even though it has always been a weak point for me. And, of course, it will open up opportunities and better pay.

Good challenge. REG is kicking my behind and I needed to be reminded why I'm doing this.

    why i decided to try:

    stability

the ability to run a solo tax practice someday

why am i doing it NOW?

the law changes in CA jan 1st. i did a second BA in 16 months while working full time, passed three exams on the first try, and the only thing standing between me and a CPA license is AUD in just over a week. my one and only chance, because if i fail i will be off to grad school before i can get my license according to the new law. my dog has degenerative disc disease and just lost the ability to walk and requires constant care while i am studying and working. i was sick for four months of the summer while taking exams. i am doing this because i'm 100% dead set against anything stopping me from it. gone too far, have too much invested NOT to get done.

Like most I am pursing the CPA for career advancement, and the increased earning potential. Last and certainly not least the respect factor. Employers are definitely “more comfortable” with a CPA.

When I obtained my undergraduate degree, I attempted a few Accounting classes and did not do well, and I couldn't get into the Business School because of these grades. This was a huge blow to my self-esteem, since I had always done very well in school. I now know that I didn't do well in Accounting because I partied too much and didn't ask enough questions after class! Anyway, I became an Economics major and had a great career in the financial services industry after college. I went as far as I could in that industry without obtaining additional certifications/degrees and I decided to give this whole Accounting thing another try. I went back to school and rocked it. Now, three years after I started this whole journey, I only have BEC left. I am tired, burnt out, and so ready to move on with my life and I am struggling to find the motivation to get over this one last hump before I am done! I see the light at the end of the tunnel, though! When I began this process years ago, it was to get ahead in this world and always be able to provide a comfortable life style for my family. But, looking back, I now understand that my main motivation was to prove to myself that I am 100% smart enough to conquer Accounting, or anything else for that matter. Those 3 letters will be my final proof and my constant reminder…

    FAR - PASSED
    AUD - PASSED
    REG - PASSED
    BEC - Re-take NOV '13

I have been out of accounting for five years and even with one year of public accounting experience basic accounting jobs won't schedule me for an interview. For me I have to update my resume and this is my best opportunity to get a professional career again.

Then there is the personal side to it. I started studying for this exam three times in my life but ended up giving up because of work ethic and willpower issues. I quit my job so I wouldn't have any more excuses and now its either a CPA or back to retail.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

While it started out only to advance my career, make more money, and job related things. It is now more about proving to myself i can do this, i can push myself and make it happen. While all the job things will still be great it isn't my main reason for doing this anymore.

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

I am doing this because becoming a cpa has always been my dream. (Back in the days of the Big 8, Arthur Anderson to be specific). I started at 18 years old pursuing a degree in accounting, and like so many like happened so I had to put it on hold. While on hold I started my own bookkeeping and tax business, it is now 17 years old. While running my business I finished my BS and MS in Accounting. I want to become a legitimate accountant, so cpa it is……When people ask me am I a CPA, the letters will answer the question.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader.....time to pass
