I’ve ventured into the Health issues section, but this particular thread is supposed to help AVOID said issues.

Let’s share what we are doing to try and maintain our health while studying. What are you guys doing for workouts? Workout DVDs? Buying home equipment? Gym lifting? Cardio only? Any particular workout programs you are using or are you freestyling it? What time of day do you workout?

Are you guys trying to keep your eating habits under control? What are some good healthy study snacks you like?

While it may be difficult for these exams to not affect your health at all, it is important to minimize negative affects. Let’s support each other and share our tips/techniques!

Anyone take any Les Mills classes at their gym? I dont go to the gym but I try to take atleast one bodypump class on Friday and Sunday. Can't really commit to work, AND study, AND GYM right now. Until im done with exams, might as well enjoy that extra piece of cake.

    Done ^_^

I have…I wasn't into it. I don't like the extensive amount of reps you do in that class. I rather increase my weight and do fewer reps. By the middle of the class my limbs were shaking!! It was awful!

By the way, I agree about the cake lol

@HappyDayss: Les Mills rocks, imho. Heck, I certified in BodyCombat a year ago because it was that motivational. Sadly, there are no LM licensed gyms within a reasonable driving distance of work and home, so it is something that I've been missing. If you can try more than just BodyPump, I'd recommend it. Especially their newest programs called GRIT. All around, the programming has been excellent and the program directors have been making a push to make the classes more innovative each quarter. πŸ™‚

    @ CPA4BirthdayPresent – 4:30 a.m.?!? Wow! On a workday, the best I do is 5:20. You're a rockstar! πŸ™‚

Which brings me to my question for everyone…… On average, how many hours are you guys sleeping a night?

As someone that has never slept well, I have always been curious as to the right balance. Some people adopt the whole “I'll sleep later” mantra because of studying…. but as an a.m. workout person, I need my sleep!

Any thoughts/insights would be greatly appreciated…………………

@Denise – I love my sleep! I try to aim for 7 hours a night during the week, so I go to bed at 10pm each night (although I probably fall asleep around 10:30) and then wake up at 5am (maybe snooze once, but that's all).

I'm trying to change my sleep schedule for the weekends so that I'll wake up at 7am. It's worked a few times, but every now and then I'll sleep until 9am. Oops!

If the whether is nice, it's great to have a 5k run/biking/basketball outside. I think a good 30 mins to 1 hour is pretty good. If it's raining, just stay at home and do some workout (pushups, pullups, situps, etc). No equipment needed for the workout. 30mins without too much rest will be very helpful. If it's hot and humid, hit the swimming pool for 30mins to 1 hour. It feels great.

There is always something to do.

A few weeks ago, I didn't run on the treadmill as much as I wanted. When I got home from the gym, I felt guilty so I played a half-hour's worth of Just Dance 3 on Xbox. It was fun!

Ugh… the CPA exam is ruining my life! Haha. I have not gone to the gym in 3 days and I'm about to eat mac and cheese for dinner. Boo. I was doing so well.

Got up at 7:30am this morning and went for an hour-long run/walk along the beach! It was gorgeous πŸ™‚ Then came back and did a small ab exercise and a minute-long wall-sit. I don't know the correct term for wall-sit, but that's what I'll call it!

Now, it's studying for the rest of the day!

Working in public accounting has made me obsessed with making efficient and effective use of my time!!! When I'm in study mode I like to think of my time as “billable hours” and now I have converted my study breaks into exercise time so that I have ZERO WASTED TIME! πŸ™‚

I've modified the pomodoro method to 30-45 minutes of focused study with 10-15 minutes of break. On the breaks I'm either jump roping, doing pushups/crunches, or doing a 10-15 chapter of my fave hour long DVD (arms on break one, abs break two, etc). Sometimes I'm actually relived to sit back down and study! Ha!!!! This way I have no guilt about skipping a workout and no guilt about moving through the phonebook AKA the Wiley FAR textbook!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ™‚

Ugghhh! Feeling sick to my stomach.

Food I've eaten so far today:

    – 1 serving's worth of Fiber One Pancakes

    – 1 bag of Hot Cheetos

    – 1 Bacon, egg, n cheese croissant

I'm still doing well as far as my caloric intake, believe it or not, but uuggghhh my tummy hurts : (

I haven't done any physical exercise. I'm up against a clock with my studying because I want to get through F-8 for MCQs today before my husband and I leave to go watch Game 5 with friends…GOTTA HURRY!

@MintsRGood Wow, truly amazing to be able to workout during your break.

I am a slim build person, but my body proportions have changed significantly over the last 6 months. I have not been working out at all, and I have had to buy new pants and shirts because nothing fits, yet I am the same weight. I am sure I am loosing muscle weight and gaining fat weight.

Because I have always been slim I don't know where to begin on exercising, and I am even more embarrassed to say I have a home gym in my house (Son is into working out). He always wants to show me how to workout, but I am afraid I will not be able to do anything he wants me to do. How do you all start this process of working out?

I eat very well, aside from the occasional treats (small piece of chocolate) when I attain a major accomplishment in my studies (usually 2-3 a day). I make my fruits and veggie containers for the week on Sunday for my snacks. I normally have a glass of wine every night (Couldn't function in my insane work life without it), and that's it. My meals are very healthy, 1/2 cup of oatmeal everyday for breakfast, peanut butter and organic jelly for lunch with yogurt, and then a sensible dinner.

So exercising, where do I begin? I also use the promodoro technique to study, but my timer is 25 minutes of study and 5 minute break.

FIT: I didn't exercise at all this past weekend, but this morning I got out of bed early again and went to the gym to do some lifting and HIIT.

STUDY: I studied SOOO much this weekend!! I got soooo much done that I'm not even that bumbed out about not exercising. I got through 5 chapters of MCQs for FAR!! Only one more to go before I start my week of review for SIMS.
