I’ve ventured into the Health issues section, but this particular thread is supposed to help AVOID said issues.
Let’s share what we are doing to try and maintain our health while studying. What are you guys doing for workouts? Workout DVDs? Buying home equipment? Gym lifting? Cardio only? Any particular workout programs you are using or are you freestyling it? What time of day do you workout?
Are you guys trying to keep your eating habits under control? What are some good healthy study snacks you like?
While it may be difficult for these exams to not affect your health at all, it is important to minimize negative affects. Let’s support each other and share our tips/techniques!

all it takes to lose weigh/get in shape/build muscle is will power and consistency. mostly will power tho. YOU have to want it.
in any case….
FIT:
first decent day of lifting since July 3rd. squats today for the first time in 2ish weeks. leg pump was crazy, and it was only with 185 lbs. taking it nice and easy with squats and slowly bumping back up in weight, really focusing on form. i dont want whatever happened last time to my leg, to happen again.
STUDY:
been done with the AUD Wiley book modules for about 2 weeks now. today i reviewed some of the sections which i didnt do so hot on in the Reporting module – primarily Trust Systems and GAGAS. just got back down to studying some more, so ill probably just review the notecards i made for the rest of the night. maybe an mcq section.
July 11, 2013 at 9:50 pm #683829smp73Member@neika the switch to a primarily liquid diet was not easy by any means but “real” food just made me so sick it made it worth it but just like dmurph said about will power with working out it took a lot of will power. Unfortunately what is considered healthy for “normal” people makes me sick/unable to eat for days. For example, if I were to eat an apple for breakfast, yes one apple, I would be so full I would not eat for at least a day. Obviously that causes issues with nutrition. I've finally figured out what works for me and feel so much better and it makes working out so much easier! π
I think I might take the night off from studying. It is gloriously cool and NOT humid here tonight. Might be time for a longer outside run. No running tomorrow…though. It is a rest day/dog park day and Saturday is a 5k!

July 12, 2013 at 3:10 am #683830MintsRGoodParticipant@smp73 gave me a rundown of all the great things Fitbit does to help you collect a wealth of data on your daily activity, steps, distance traveled, sleep patterns, etc.! I've been using it daily and every night since 5/31 and it's been very helpful! I also have the Fitbit scale and it sends my weight, BMI, and body fat % over wifi and syncs to the Fitbit app! The app is great BTW and very easy to use…you can also log your food and heart rate too! The Fitbit site pulls all that data into great reports. The Fitbit one is $99 and I have certainly had more than $99 worth of fun using it…can't say enough positive things about it!!!!!! π
I'm still on vacation but with spotty internet access (we are on an island) so I haven't been able to post much since I left town on 7/3! We spent the first few days in South Beach and have spent the remainder of the trip at my family's condo…it's right on the ocean and very quiet…no tourists, no hustle/bustle…very relaxing!!!!! NO complaints!!!!
FIT: Daily 2-3 mile beach walks since arriving in beach town on 7/6 and lots of ocean/pool activities too! No scale here (thank goodness) so I don't know if I've lost any weight! Beer intake however is up 1000% so I'm probably at a push on that front! π
Study: I've been reading Ninja on the beach during the day and moving through the Wiley FAR text during down time (early morning and before bed) Earlier in the week we had 2 mornings of monsoon-like rain…so I took that time and knocked out the last 400 pages of the Wiley FAR text and I now get to enjoy packing that f***ing phonebook in my checked luggage on the flight home, yay!!!!!!!! π When I get back home I will start pounding out MCQS on all topics and see which topics need the most work and go from there! I had hoped to finish the text by 7/25…but now I'm much farther ahead than I thought I'd be and totally relived that vacation didn't mess up the study plan!
Keep up the good work everyone, get it done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! π

July 12, 2013 at 2:54 pm #683832AnonymousInactiveI've just started using a kettlebell workout. In 30 minutes of kettlebell squats and swings I can get the same workout as a 5 mile run. The pain in my body after just 30 minutes is intense.
I find that it is easy to squeeze in a 30 minute workout without feeling guilty.
Another thing that I have tried is intermittent fasting. Basically, I will only eat between 2 p.m and 8 p.m. As long as I don't have a sugar in my morning coffee I can make it til lunch without any food. I've lost about 10 lbs with this method.
July 13, 2013 at 3:07 pm #683833AnonymousInactive@AlexT
Intermittent Fasting (IF) is good stuff. I adhered to that methodology for a good period of time between 2011-2012. As a former fatty (back in HS), it allowed me to still eat massive quantities of food in a single sitting (PS- “Team Never Full” checking in. I can literally eat and hardly get full. Old habits die hard i suppose…) while maintaining a caloric deficit.
However, I must disclaim, that it is just as effective as ANY OTHER method of dieting, provided that you are eating at a caloric deficit. Considering that, I switched my approach from IF to now eating whenever I like, provided I adhere to my macronutrient limits. I still lose weight in the EXACT SAME FASHION, without being restricted to a feeding window.
Just some ‘food for thought' (pun maybe intended).
STUDY:
Finally back on board. I feel like I am back in the groove of things for the first time today since July 2nd. That week of non-study and binge drinking really knocked me off my game.
Currently, I'm just reviewing my weak areas for the AUD exam. I sit for it on Aug 1st.
FIT:
Gonna head out and smash some weights in a bit. First ‘heavy' day since my aforementioned hiatus from studying/lifting. Hopefully I havent lost too much in the strength department.
July 13, 2013 at 3:27 pm #683834Sportiegrl13MemberI have my monthly fitness challenges that I do everyday for the last 4 months. Short little work outs but I am getting something in. Plus, walking/running with my pup to get outside and enjoy the nice weather is always good for the soul too!

OK, you are all laughing and there is your core work-out for the moment!

July 14, 2013 at 3:00 pm #683837neika822ParticipantI'm tempted to run out the door and get a fitbit :).
I'm not doing so great on either fronts! I knew that this weekend would be busy, though. Friday, we went down to the Cape for the day, and (mistakenly, because I screwed up the directions) walked about four to five miles. Then, Saturday, we babysat my boyfriend's 5yo niece and hit the (very cold) pool and park. I did about an hour of studying last night and will hit the books all day. I'm also going to hit up the gym tonight.
Next weekend I have a four-day weekend, so I'll be catching up!

July 14, 2013 at 5:07 pm #683838smp73Member@neika…you so should get a fitbit. It is fantastic! π If you have a really active day an get a lot more steps than your original goal it tells you that you are an overachiever because you have so many steps. I love getting the overachiever notification!
Fit: Went for a painfully hot, humid, muggy, very hilly 3 mile run. I thought waking up at the crack of dawn would save me from the heat/humidity but boy was it wrong. It was a fantastically terrible run but it is better than no run. I will do weights, legs, arms etc after a trip to the dog park later.
Study: Made notecards today, need to read one very long section by the end of the day and I will be right on schedule!

July 15, 2013 at 9:59 am #683839neika822ParticipantI lost all motivation yesterday to study. I just cannot get things rolling on FAR. I'm absolutely miserable studying this material!! I am doing the NINJA method and finally started the MCQs. I'm nearly done Chapter 2.
Went for a 1.5 mile run last night outside. Then hit the gym and tried to do some ab work.
This weekend went by way too fast! I hate Monday mornings…

July 15, 2013 at 12:28 pm #683840smp73MemberI agree this weekend went by way way way too fast! I did get in a dog walk before walk and saw an incredible sunrise over the lake. That made this Monday morning a little better.
I actually got solid studying in this weekend and good workouts. I even fit into a pair of pants I ordered months ago that were the strangest size. They were my then normal size but were so freaking small they had no hope of fitting…well the fit now! Yay!
I think I might bite the bullet and just buy the Wiley CIA test bank… I feel like if I dont I will be selling myself short and I do not want that.

July 15, 2013 at 5:08 pm #68384110keyLeahMemberSoda is very hard on your teeth too. I try to drink water or tea and only have soda on occasion. I used to drink soda all the time before I committed to a healthier lifestyle.
Sitting for long periods of time is not good either. In-between studying, I get up and do a few exercises, get the blood flowing. It helps keep me awake.
I also use it as a reward. I tell myself if I just make it through the next section then I can get up and move around or go outside for a few minutes.
