AnonymousInactiveHello everyone,
I just found out today sadly that I did not pass Audit and will be unable to finish the four parts of the CPA Exam prior to 12/31/13. So I’ll now have to license under Pathway 2 and need 225 quarter units as opposed to the 180. I’m pretty sure I meet all of the additional accounting, business and ethics requirements(will verfiy with the CBA) under the second pathway, its the additional 45 units that I don’t have. Any one else have this dilemma? What are you doing to get quick units to license under the second pathway? And can I get this additional units through community college/online courses? Motivation to get through this thing dealt a serious blow today, but i will finish this freakin exam! Thanks so much for the help.

KenadaMemberHello Cbek,
I am in the exact same boat as you. I need about 50 Semester hours to be able to get licensed.
My issue is the same as you I have to look for colleges or online universities that I can do courses that will make up for the extra credited needed.
This is my plan and i dont know if its a good one but here it is.
1st finish all the CPA exams as once you are done all they never expire.
2nd – I am going to apply for the CPA license so that they can do a Kick back giving me a detailed letter with what I have missing in order to get licensed. This way I know for sure the courses I take are what they want.
3rd – I will go to several local community colleges first and see if I can do as many courses as possible with them to start accumulating the extra credits I need.
4th – Once I am done will send in the remaining transcripts and apply for the license.
I think getting the credits will be a long journey but its now a necessary headache. If anyone knows more places that CA Candidates can acquire credits – please do share 🙂
This online course might be able to help bridge some of the gaps.

Study MonkMemberSimilar Dilemma but I got to take 2 accounting class and 1 class for the business ethics to meet the new educational requirements for California.
I will be enrolling in a Business Law, Accounting Micro systems, and a Corporate Tax class while studying for the CPA exam full time. I am taking two of these classes online and another one at a community college.
I have looked into this extensively and you can take classes online and at a community college. You might want to make sure they are accredited through one of the major accrediting agencies.
This sheet is for double checking the new accounting, business, and ethics requirements:
https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/applicants/tip_sheet.pdf
The good news is once you get the new educational requirements there will be less competition in our state as more and more people decide not to go through the extra hoops necessary to become a California CPA.
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

KenadaMemberHello Study Monk
Which community college will you be obtaining your credits from ? Hope you don't mind sharing as it would help to know which community colleges are offering courses online.
So far I can say Santa Clara Uni and San Jose Uni have totally useless Admins that are not helpful what so ever.
I know Golden Gate University has an “open enrollment” where you can take courses that would be from a masters program without having to do a GMAT. But ofcourse you won't be awarded a masters degree, just get credits for the courses you have taken.
So my plan was for the courses I lack and need to get from an masters degree I would use Golden Gate university open enrollment options just to bridge the GAP that I have to meet.

JLACMCMemberSouthern California?
I recommend Santa Monica College, they have the MOST online accounting/business/math classes. All online so you do not have to go to school. You can study and take online courses, not too hard. They offer a lot of 8-12 week online courses, as well as the normal 16 week. Cheap too.
Another method is UCLA extension, they offer a lot of online courses as well, but more pricey about $600 per class.

AnonymousInactiveThanks for the comments all!
Is https://www.coursera.org an accredited org? It looks like they offer a lot of free courses. How about the CLEP exams? Anyone have experience with those?
I contacted the board over the weekend and they cannot verify if all Pathway 2 requirements are met into you apply for licensure. So I guess I'll wrap up the exam first then focus on the units next.

AnonymousInactiveInsiWinsi,
I think their are 10 units we need for Ethics right? 2 classes with certain keywords from the list to qualify as Ethics courses. (It seems like a pretty arbitrary way of determining if it meets the requirements or not???)
