@DC – both times I've taken BEC my writing simulations were like that, especially the first time I took it in December. They seem to start out with the easiest question and build in difficulty. I guess good to know for future test takers and people who have run out of time… start with the 3rd essay and work your way backwards!

    REG - 72 (Oct 2011), 74 (May 2012), 80 (July 2012)
    FAR - 77 (Feb 2012)
    AUD - 70 (Aug 2012), 89! (Oct 2012)
    BEC - 71 (Dec 2012), 75!(Feb 2013)

So, I took BEC on 2/9 – got my score last Friday. I passed… I left the exam thinking… only a miracle will save me. I felt more confident about FAR and had a higher score on BEC. I'm dumbfounded. This makes 2 down and 2 to go. I remember reading this forum last November and thinking… I'll never pass… but remember YOU CAN PASS!

PS Had a friend that told me this, “Do you know what they call a person who barely passed the CPA exam?” — “A C-P-A!!”

I felt Becker missed the mark on BEC. The first testlet I flagged like 7 questions… the second question… had no freakin' clue… the writing portion was easy as hell. don't worry about that. I didn't do any of the becker simulations on writing.

    FAR - Passed 77 (November 2012)
    BEC - Passed 83 (February 2013)
    AUD - Passed 87 (April 2013)
    REG - Passed 89 (July 2013)

@taxguy: I am in my first week of studying for BEC and it's good to know it's possible to pass without doing the Becker writing sims…i mean really? Does Becker seriously expect me to write 3 short essays for each of the 6 chapters??

    @ CPA4

even though you don't need to write them out, i would still recommend reading through each of them. i think i read the answers to the SIMS twice, which doesn't take long at all, and that was all i needed to do. it might depend on how good of a writer you are though.

im taking BEC tomorrow (gulp). I know the release date is for march 11th (which effectively is march 8th as per the business day before rule) but being BEC is hand graded will I still get it on the 8th? Will it be later and if it usually is how much later?

Took BEC yesterday after studying for about 10 days. I didn't think the exam was too difficult but I did run out of time on the last sim. I thought Becker prepared me adequately – let's hope it was enough for a 75!

    Journey begins in July 2012.

    FAR - 87 (8/7/2012)
    REG - 89 (11/19/2012)
    AUD - 95 (1/17/2013)
    BEC - 81 (2/26/2013)

    @DC:

I consider myself a good writer. Especially compared to the typical accountant type person. I majored in Journalism before I switched over to accounting. But to be honest, I'll proabably actually end up doing a few of them just because if this truely will be my last exam, I don't want any laziness to get in the way of me finishing for good.

@DC & @CPA4birthdaypresent, I totally agree on reading even if your good at writing, which I myself am.

By rereading it gives you a good idea of the format they are looking for, but additionally, it's almost like a mini review because it ties a small aspect of the BEC section into a very small informational packet 🙂

I flew through my writing portion, with 45 minutes. I could have used less, but it gave me great timing to review and edit.

    Best!

    FAR - 7/16/2012 *76 : 2.5mo [Exp. 1/2014]
    AUD - 8/31/2012 *82 : 1mo

Back into BEC starting tomorrow! This will be my 5th attempt in less than one year. So crazy. Last test was on 1/4 which i thought was a punishment from the CPA gods. The questions were super brutal!! Missed it by 2 points from being a certified pain in the a$$ and lost REG. Anyway, onto studying again for this beast.

    BEC 10/13 PASSED 77
    AUD 04/12 PASSED 83
    FAR 08/12 PASSED 76
    REG 02/13 PASSED 76

Licensed in PA on 12/23/13. Yea boy!!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 88!!! DONE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 76
    REG - 77

@jacobsherman55 – As far as I can tell from the AICPA Candidate Bulletin/Scoring Guide, BEC is not always hand graded. They will run your WC through the computer first. If your resulting grade is close to passing, they will manually grade the WC. If they computer grade your WC and it results in a passing grade, I doubt they manually grade it too.
