kts1010MemberWell two weeks to go for me and I start my review. I have two weeks till 02/23 to rework all HW and reread the book. Hopefully I will have a few days to do review practice becker tests and read all the NINJA notes once or twice.
If anyone has any suggestion to help me remember the all formulas or what I should focus on in B2 & B3 that would be greatly appreciated since these two sections gave me a fit the first time through. Hopefully this will be the last two weeks I ever have to study for this exam so time to buckle down and get after it.
Good Luck to everyone tackling this exam by the end of this window!!

BEC - 04/15/13 - 84February 9, 2013 at 10:27 pm #401569@kts1010 – I would suggest not killing yourself to remember every single solitary formula, you'll kill yourself and possibly end up overloading and forgetting information. Someone told me before I sat for BEC to make sure I knew the Price Variance nemonic devices, PURE DADS and boy was I glad I did when I took the test! I would suggest making sure you know and understand the logic of the topics and then the formulas will come more naturally and with less memorization.
I will say from my first experience with BEC, there was more short logic questions than lengthy math problems. I would also go into the Witten Simulations with at least an hour and really make sure you pace yourself through the MC and as you write the essays. I have always finished AUD, REG and FAR with plenty, I mean oodles of time left when I was done. I submitted BEC with like 10 seconds left on the clock!
Good luck!! It sounds like you'll do great with the amount of review time you have!

no.cruncherMemberCan you expand on PURE DADS please…
for ROE = Dupont Analysis I came up with “No strings attached/u say?” Sorry I do whatever it takes, to keep it interesting and in mind lol
DUPONT Analysis:
= ROE
= NSA/SAE?
= Ni/Sales x Sales/Assets x Assets/Equity
= Net Profit Margin x Total Asset Turnover Ration x Equity Leverage Multiplier

CMA... Hmmm...???
February 10, 2013 at 2:42 am #401571@ no.cruncher – I'd be happy to! There are a couple nemonics Becker has to offer in Price Variances that I find to some of the most easiest and helpful devices to know in BEC.
– PURE DADS
– SAD
PURE DADS relates to Direct Material and Direct Labor Price Variances.
P – Price
U – Usage
R – Rate
E – Efficiency
Price and Usage relate to Direct Materials and Rate and Efficiency relate to Direct Labor.
The next piece of the puzzle is DADS, spelling left to right and down:
P – DA (Difference)(Actual)
U – DS (Difference)(Standard)
R – DA (Difference)Actual)
E – DS (Difference)(Actual)
– SAD => Standard – Actual = Difference
So…
– Price: (Std Price – Actual Price)(Actual Quantity)
– Usage: (Std Quantity – Actual Quantity)(Std Price)
– Rate: (Std Rate – Actual Rate)(Actual Hrs Worked)
– Efficiency: (Std Hrs Worked – Actual Hrs Worked)(Std Rate)
I hope you find this helpful! It's a littler difficult to explain just typing!

AnonymousInactive@sploofy – I also took BEC on Feb 9th. We fall in in the Day 21-45 window so we'll get our scores on Feb. 25th. Since Feb. 25th is a Monday, it is very likely that the scores will actually be available on Friday, Feb 22nd. Good luck!

February 10, 2013 at 7:57 pm #401575So angry right now I swear I can feel my blood boiling… I am supposed to sit for my BEC rematch tomorrow… I just drove down to the Warwick, RI testing center, they are plowed AND have power and what does Prometric do… close the stupid center for tomorrow…. They are lucky they are closed and not picking up the phone because boy would I give them a piece of my mind right now….
Thankfully I was able to reschedule for Saturday, 2/16. I know I should be looking at this right now as an opportunity to study and prepare more… but I arranged a lot of appointments for my wedding this week in anticipation of the exam being behind me. So now I am going to have to deal with 2ft of snow, wedding appointments, valentine's day and trying to keep my cool before this exam.
I need a glass of wine…
Thanks for listing BEC family!

I feel you but you are close so just try and keep your cool this week since you are so close to being finished. I also just can't wait to be done I can't believe I have a chance to be all done in two weeks. I really pray this is going to be it and I can move on to new things in my life.

grunonaMemberI am having a major road block since the weekend and having a hard time studying! I got up at 4 am today and feel like I've retained nothing and the questions in the Wiley book did not go well this morning. Ugh. Feeling totally deflated. Any ideas on how to get my study mojo back? Thanks!!

REGFebruary 11, 2013 at 2:24 pm #401578@kts1010 – Thanks! 🙂 You're right… the thought of potentially being done with this exam for ever in just a few days, or weeks, in your hand, should be all the motivation I need to get through BEC! Best of luck to you!!
@grunona – Maybe your a morning person, but waking up at 4am to study doesn't seem like the best way to go about retaining information. I am sure you're half asleep in just in a panic to study. I find I do poorly on MC questions when I am tired or hungry haha. Make sure when you study you have a clear head and feel focused, otherwise, I would listen to your body needing a break. You have to balance studying with rest and time to clear your head. Then when you do hit the books again you'll feel more refreshed going into it. Good luck finding your study mojo!

AnonymousInactiveI have a question for the masses. I have taken BEC before, failed with a 74. I took the holidays off and have just finished back through the videos, but that took longer than I thought basically cause I should've never taken a break. Now I have two weeks to the day before testing.
I have the Ninja Notes, Audio and Wiley.
How would you spend your time studying? Appreciate any input. It's been real tough getting back to studying how I did to pass the FAR & REG. Thanks!

soxfan866MemberWas going through the B2 questions today and ran into this ridiculously complicated problem (even more so than usual). Got it wrong and when I looked at the explanation it said something along the lines of “This question is really hard. It is highly unlikely that you will ever see anything like this on the CPA exam.” Thanks for the heads up Becker, glad I wasted 10 minutes trying to figure it out when I won't see anything like it on the exam hah.
