InactiveJust started my new job and after looking around at what everyone was wearing, I feel I need to step up my business casual attire! Does anyone recommend any good places to get work clothes that won’t break the bank?

InactiveAww I've been missed while I've been at work (and running errands…). 😉
Thank you all for the hair information! 🙂 My hair isn't that crazy, just disobedient enough to cause trouble. lol. It's long (mid-back), dark (I say it's brown; bf says it's black…but he's wrong 😉 ), kinda thick, and straight…but it's not silky-straight, it's frizzy-straight. This is my LinkedIn profile pic – it was behaving pretty well that day, but you can see kinda what it's like: https://m.c.lnkd.licdn.com/media/p/4/000/16c/174/0dc8ae3.jpg This was right after I finished primping, so it still looks fairly tame…but you can see on the left side of the picture where there's a bit of frizziness…and that just gets worse as the day goes on. By the end of the day, my hair just looks messy. 😐 I can brush it to remove any tangles, but the frizz is still there! I've tried various frizz-free things (sprays, serums, creams, etc), but they either do nothing or they make my hair look super oily. Oh, and I don't have the bangs anymore. I like their look when they're laying like they are in the picture, but within an hour or two, the bottoms would always flip out like a horn on the side of my face. Any body have any ideas for that? I've tried using straighteners or curlers to curl it in a bit, or using a curled brush, etc., but they'd still turn out after a couple hours. 😐 So basically, when it comes to leaving my hair down, it doesn't hold heat-applied shape (straight or curled) very well, and it gets frizzy.
I'm happy to put my hair up, and have one half-up style that I wear quite a bit, but I'd like more variety. The style that I do seems a bit casual (OK for my current job, but on the casual end – probably too casual for any future jobs), but it's hard to get my hair to stay in other styles! I LOVE French rolls, but haven't mastered them. Buns at the nape of my neck work OK, but seem more like an old lady or librarian style (I know, we're accountants, not much better known for our style than librarians…but… 😛 ). Sometimes I can pull off a French braid, though that's still not much younger. If the weight is all in one spot up high on my head, it gives me headaches, so high buns (or even high ponytails) aren't an option.
It feels kinda funny to be having these silly girl conversations on here. lol. Gotta get advice somewhere though!
@little# I'm the same way with boots – I'd like to have a good pair, but as soon as I see the price, my mind promptly changes! I keep telling myself that someday I'll catch them on a really good sale…
I'm boring with purses. I have one that I carry every day year-round. Might be an area that I should look at being more interesting…but changing purses is so troublesome! The one that I carry is a light blue JC Penney special (or at least, that's my guess – I got it for Christmas from an aunt who does almost all her shopping at Penneys). I also have a simple black purse that I wear for more formal things – like with my suit for an interview to look more professional and reserved.

Participant@Lilla- I have very frizzy wavy hair. I either wear it up, or I'll blow dry and straighten to wear down. I recently got a keratin express treatment done and I can let it air dry without any product! I love it. It was $50 and lasts ~6 weeks. This is my second treatment, and I was able to make it last longer than 6 weeks by taking care of it.

MemberI just got a great new Michael Kors work tote, purple with black, it fits my laptop, shoes, iPad, my wallet keys and still has room. I am trying to limit myself to 1-2 bags a year, there was a time period where I was getting 6 or more year and not cheap either that was a habit that ended quick! I am not loyal to one brand of shoes, but i like to get all different types, i have gotten 2 really nice pair of nine west on sale at Macys recently which was a great surprise since they never have my size on the sale rack in shoes i like! Since I commute on public transit and walk i usually commute in my toms and change in to heals when i get to work.
@Mints I love that you don't wear certain shoes out side!
A - 61, 91!!
B - 78!
F - 76!!!
R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

ParticipantI love this thread!!!!!!! And I love @smp73CPA who is the queen of Ann Taylor and all things fashionable! Also, smp73CPA introduced me into the wonderful world of FitBit! 🙂
Here is a link to my most boot acquisition from a month ago…remember I'm crazy when it comes to footwear! In all fairness, these WERE $225 and I paid around $125 on super sale at my Mecca AKA Nordstrom!
@Lilla You need a 450 degree flat iron ASAP. It will be the answer to all of your styling woes. I have one from T3 and it's working perfectly today as it did when I bought it back in 2007. It's worth every penny!!!! I've tried all sorts of blow out creams, gels, silicone sprays, etc. to straighten my hair at a wide variety of price points but NOTHING makes my unruly hair smooth and shiny like Got 2B CrazySleek Flat Iron Lotion. It comes in a windex looking spray bottle and is approx. $4-$6. I've spent up to (please don't judge me) $75 for product and it didn't work half as well as the $6 Got 2B lotion. Pick it up at the drugstore and try it!

@stephw4763 I love my Kate Spades but I won't lie to you…it's pain for vain. I'm OK with that but for $300-$350 I have expectations that my feet won't rip to shreds and bleed so much they stain the lining of the shoes. Not kidding. I think the vamp is extremely steep and they put an unnatural amount of pressure into the ball of your foot. Their 2″ pumps or flats are easier to manage but I have tried and failed miserably to last an entire business day in them. Tory Burch is no better. At the $300-$350 price point Cole Haan is the best way to go IMHO. The leathers are phenomenal, the construction is solid, and the nike air technology is so comfortable you won't believe you are wearing 3.5″ heels!
I've been stressing about my FAR score, so I've been shopping…a lot. Here is a pic of the shoes I received last week from C. Wonder! What does the fox say???? 😉

Member@ MintsRGood — beautiful shoes 🙂 Thanks for the Cole Haan rec! I have freakishly high arches and most high heels are pretty uncomfortable for me, so I'll have to give those a try!! I am not going to bother with the Kate Spade because they put a lot of pressure on the ball of the foot…. which is a recipe for disaster with my high arches!
