Just started my new job and after looking around at what everyone was wearing, I feel I need to step up my business casual attire! Does anyone recommend any good places to get work clothes that won’t break the bank?

@Bluegirl good call on belting the flowy/looser fit dress shirts! I like to throw a skinny belt over dress shirts and also over sheath/a-line dresses to give them a little more shape and structure.

@CPAdilemma let us know what you decide! A black dress with black stockings and great heels is always a good look.

@BobRoss You old scoundrel, ha!!!!! JK! 🙂 Ladies, this is exactly why you need to do the “bend test” in the dressing room!

And since we are on the subject of what's appealing on the opposite sex, I am a sucker for a man in a well tailored black suit with an impeccable dress shirt, cuff links, and nice leather shoes! My husband has almost as many dress shirts as I do pairs of shoes and actually likes dressing sharp for the office! Love it!!!

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂
    Licensed Michigan CPA 🙂

    Hi all,

I recently moved to a new city and didn't bring any formal business attire with me, have a Big 4 interview in a week and was wondering what your thoughts were between one, two and three+ button blazers/suit jackets?

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

TOTALLY NOT A FASHION QUESTION, but definitely a question for the LADIES!

Anyone ever, on purpose, get pregnant right about now (or in a few weeks-ish) as to miss an entire busy season/quarter of the year/year end, being on materinty leave (granted that is what your place of employment allows)? Not sure how else to phrase that! Is this a real kick in the teeth to your employer? Do you think they ever consider you did it on purpose?

Unfortunately I'm not ready for children yet at all. But I can't do another busy season ever in my life.

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

I've wondered that too nbad311. I don't want to be the one to try it!

I have a two-year-old (had him pre-public accounting), but I have considered timing for the next one to be just after busy season (at some point) because 1) it seems like busy season attendance is one of the main criteria for promotions and 2) if you're going to have a baby at home, you need the busy season bonus (extra PTO days in my case) to use for extra maternity leave or sick days later in the year.

    B - 81 (8/31/13) first attempt!
    A - 80 (2/3/14) first attempt!
    R - 89 (7/31/13) first attempt!
    F - 86 (7/2/13) first attempt!

New York & Company is the place to go. I probably should be embarrassed to say this but I'm still wearing clothes from that store that I bought over 10 years ago. That goes to show they have high quality clothing but not too expensive. I also use Cheer liquid detergent and that makes a difference in the color of your clothes.

I have been on this journey off and on for over 10 years. I think it's about time that I wrap this up.

Just wanted to let you all know that Banana Republic and Gap emailed coupons for 15% and 20% off your entire purchase, respectively.

Also, I casually walked into Old Navy yesterday and they were having a 35% off sale on their accessories, which are surprisingly really cute I might add. Apparently yesterday was the only day of the accessories sale, but I hope I wasn't the only one here that was able to capitalize off of it 🙂
