InactiveJust started my new job and after looking around at what everyone was wearing, I feel I need to step up my business casual attire! Does anyone recommend any good places to get work clothes that won’t break the bank?

Inactive@Lilla For hair resources – I almost hate to recommend this, but for hair tips/styling you might try YouTube tutorials. I recommend it because years ago I learned how to put on eyeliner better fom a teenager who was a pro at makeup. 🙂 I try to wear skirts/dresses once or twice a week.
I'm awful when it comes to accessorizing. Anyone have any recommendations on where to find good deals for accessories? I already checked out/bookmarked jane.com (mentioned in a previous post).

Inactive@Lilla, keep trying! Do you have a special hair type? I have super curly, prone to frizzing, long hair. It took me forever to find someone who had real experience and training for my hair type. I was in absolute tears the first time I found someone to help me – it was that much of a positive change. Other stylists were simply making it worse. If you have super straight, curly, short, long or whatever hair….call around and ask stylists if they have special training or experience for that. Let them know you need long term help for professional styling, and just ask them if they can help you.
I also check out you tube for professional hair style instructions. Search by your hair type and “professional” – there are lots of vids. If your hair is long enough, learn to do french rolls, braids, etc. Invest in a good blow dryer, straightener, hot rollers, and maybe a great wood or metal comb if you're hair is long enough for updos. I can do a professional french roll with a good metal hair comb in about 2 minutes! Don't be afraid to try new things on the weekend to test them out.

InactiveThank you ladies for all the feedback! I went to my local mall today and looked through JC Penny's and Express and came out with some great pieces! I bought gorgeous shirts that were originally $54 for $7.99! I am a really petite 22 year old so shopping is usually hit or miss for me. Especially on pants because even the short leg cuts I have to raise them up a little. I also found some nice jewelry to dress up my outfits 🙂

InactiveI think I've got everyone beat in the “cheap” clothes department. Being 5'4″ and weighing in at 98 pounds it's hard for me to find clothes off the rack that fit and are age appropriate. I'm not wearing a pair of pants with ANYTHING bedazzled on the back pockets! So I have a sewing machine and I know how to use it! I have two skirt patterns that fit me well, and are easy to make, one pants pattern that I also use for shorts or capri's and a blazer pattern that is relatively easy, but the lining part is a pain. I also have a pattern for a shell that can be made with long sleeves or short sleeves so I have several of each. I also have a knitting machine so I make most of my own sweaters. I just buy fabric and yarn in the off season and spend the summer making winter clothes and the winter making summer clothes. Shoes are the one thing that I'm not frugal with. I have seriously flat feet so I spend quite a bit on shoes, when I buy them, usually one or two times a year. I have a pair of flats and low heeled pumps in black, navy blue, grey and brown. This gets me through the year. My boss also bought monogrammed shirts for us to wear when we go out on audits. He likes everyone to know who we are and why we are there.

ParticipantThe Limited is having a big sale right now. I found a gorgeous dress (not work-attire) that I almost bought :-P.
Ann Taylor, Loft, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Macy's, Target, Gap, Old Navy, Express.
But wait for sales or drive to the closets outlet mall. Good luck!
I have a shopping habit (and, consequently, some CC debt :-P)
R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINADONE, DONE, AND DONE.

ParticipantI'm with Kricket, knowing how to sew comes in handy. I know I need to get these exams out of the way, but I couldn't resist cutting out two corduroy skirts to sew. It's getting cooler so now is the time to sew corduroy…..lol
It begins with a 75

InactiveOH EM GEE! I have been DYING to purchase a sewing machine for about a year now…but i keep telling myself “wait til after you pass the exams…just wait til after you pass the exams”…I did allow myself to take one beginners sewing class and I made a business-appropriate dress…it was so fun! But that was where I left off my sewing adventures…
I can't afford to pick up a new fun hobby that will distract me from studying…hopefully I can give myself a sewing machine for Christmas (contingent upon me passing this one last exam 11/19)

MemberIn terms of my skirt/dress to pants ratio, i would say i only wear pants 2 maybe 3 times a month at most. I am way more comfortable in a skirt or dress and the one thing i hate more then anything is being uncomfortable all day.
Love reading everyone tips and places they shop!
A - 61, 91!!
B - 78!
F - 76!!!
R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!
