AnonymousInactiveJust started my new job and after looking around at what everyone was wearing, I feel I need to step up my business casual attire! Does anyone recommend any good places to get work clothes that won’t break the bank?

AnonymousInactiveCongrats @littlenumberrobot !
I love that this thread is still active 🙂
And not to hijack your hijack . . .. but I got a pair of beautiful sapphire earrings for Christmas from hubby. He said I deserved something extra nice for passing the exam! They are way nicer than something I would ever buy for myself. Keep going CPA exam chicks, sometimes smart gals who pass exams get extra nice presents. 😉

NuffsaidMemberShop ONLINE. Macys.com has great deals particularly around holidays, and you can get name brand items for 50-70% off. President's Day is coming up, so take advantage of the deals then!

AnonymousInactive2 questions girls! Ok, dress shirts.I work at a large national firm and our dress code is business casual (no khakis though which is strange). I've only been there for 2 1/2 months and i've tried to see what other women do but so far I've been on audits with male engagement teams. So, personal preference, do you girls tuck in your dress shirts? I get most of mine from Express and the style now is kind of flowy and a little sheer but not to the point that you can see undergarments. I usually leave it untucked but not sure if that is the best thing since I have a lot of client interaction.
Now to the fun question! Holiday party attire! Ours is coming up at the end of January and I'm curious where you girls shop for that. We were told semi-formal since it's themed as a winter gala.

AnonymousInactiveCompany holiday is next week girls! So the invitations says semi formal kind of vegas themed. Would I be pushing it with a short strapless dress?

AnonymousInactiveDress shirts first – sometimes tuck in, sometimes not. Depends on the bottom of the shirt and if you are at a client or at the office. The flowy kind look fine untucked to me. I started work this week at a large regional firm and noticed mostly untucked including flowy shirts. I shop at Banana or Ann Taylor and I'm seeing a lot of that now. I'd be more concerned with low cut scoop necks show off your “assets” when you bend over.
Since you may not know what the other women are wearing, have you seen pictures of past parties? Just curious. I'd never wear a short, strapless dress but then again in the deep south I doubt we'd have a Vegas themed party. Maybe go with short & sleeveless.
Why in the world are they doing a holiday party in January?

AnonymousInactiveNo, I haven't seen any pictures of past parties but I might just play it safe with a little black dress and black stockings. Can't go wrong with that. Since it's my first year I definitely don't want to be “that girl” that was either under dressed or over dressed or not correctly dressed haha. Well, December is a no go because we are a large national firm and with inventory dates we are spread all over the place. Mid January works better because most of us are in the office gearing up to go away on audits for busy season.

AnonymousInactiveI tuck in many of my dress shirts depending on the style. Some of the flowy ones you can belt if they're long enough. Also, for audit purposes you could always bring a blazer and if you feel overdressed just take it off. And yes, can't go wrong with a black dress. Even if you look cute, strapless can look skanky in a professional setting.

AnonymousInactive@BamaMom – speaking for the men of this forum, we like low cut scoop shirts that show off your “assets”. Please do not discontinue the wearing of these great shirts. It makes our day better. Thank you.
