SeattleAccountantMember@Smp, Great job! Hopefully you've had nailed! Yeah, Excedrin works magic for me too. Especially taken two tabs before the exam = heavenly.
Happy for you and stressed for me. Spent 8+ hours today reading textbook.

MCLKTParticipantSounds like I need to upgrade from ibuprofen to Excedrin!
It's crazy, I felt in the beginning like I was way ahead of schedule, I got off track and now feel so behind. I'm going to reschedule and just start hammering away at MCQ's.
Welcome Kip_Snoodles! I'm not using Becker, but I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out.
Good Luck next week 3CPA

LisaMember@SMP–Congrats on having the courage and tenacity to sit for REG today. I have confidence in you and faith that you made it through. I'll continue to root for you on test release date. (By the way the comment you made sounded a lot like my REG experience).
@Seattle–You have great exam scores to date and I believe you will ace REG too. From your post I see that you are reading a REG text. For me, reading the text of the review books, Becker and Gleim (I used Wiley too, but mostly just the MC and SIMS, as the Wiley text was not as ‘readable' for me), helped me to understand the topics better. But whatever you're doing, it works, so keep doing it! Hopefully that will keep your stress level in check.
@MCLKT–All of your comments about REG specifics have been very knowledgable, so review the topics you know to keep them fresh and keep moving through the rest of the material. You have this!
@Kip–Good luck with you studies. I watched all the Becker Videos and their Final Review Videos. I thought of all my materials that Becker was the best for the Business Law portion. I thought they did a better job of integration of the BLAW topics.

SeattleAccountantMember@MCKLT, both are good decisions 🙂 reschedule and Excedrin!
Please don't treat delays as getting behind. It is probably purely psychological. You are at the right spot, it just for some subjects one needs to spend disproportionally greater time than other and all as always strictly individual.
Today i spent over 8 hours reading sentence by sentence certain lecture. While i'm ahead of schedule, today was slow progress due to a volume of material presented. But I figured that i either spend time today without any rush and second time around won't have to spend a lot (i do review 2x: initial very slow, as much as it takes per section until I can mastered to at least 90%; second time, 4 days per section to wrap up all and everything and to build up MCQ speed). This worked for both FAR and AUD, especially for AUD b/c it was my second exam and I've mastered the studying approach.
So, take your time, better be ready than sorry! We can and will do it!

SeattleAccountantMemberThank you Lisa for kind words and faith in me! It is so great to hear from folks that been thru this process.
Yes, hearing review materials is not enough for me so I have to go back and actually see/read printed words (English is not my first language) in order to reinforce it. BUT, once those things taken care of, I can remember sometimes even page location of this or that subject. It just takes forever. This is where the bulk of my study time is spent.

LSNYCMemberSmp, happy you took the exam hopefully in a few days you'll have a 75 to be talking about. Still thinking if you and your family.
MCKLT- I'm trying to master corp tax, it's the hardest for me right now. I feel a little behind and thought about pushing my exam back but I have three weekends of full obligations after 5/3 so I would have minimal study time. You can do thins, even if you reschedule make a new plan and stick to it!
Seattle – I know your working hard keep pushing did you schedule your exam yet?
Lisa – just a huge thank you love your encouraging posts!
Tonight 3 hours is my goal!
A - 61, 91!!
B - 78!
F - 76!!!
R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!Finally done!
This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

AnonymousInactiveI'm plugging along, almost done with chapter 4. I closed my beloved website down last weekend, been mourning over it. I did need to do it. It's time to focus on me, my family, and the future now. So, that is what I'm doing.
I was so tired last night, I just needed to lay my head down. In desperation, I laid my head on the pillow and flipped my laptop on its side so I could still read the problems. I actually got 40 more minutes in of problems that way before my eyes had to close and I fell asleep. I'm excited about my new study method, I may get in a few more minutes every night now! lol
This test will not defeat me! I may be a bit down this week, but I'm not out!

AnonymousInactiveR4 (partnerships) is not bad at all. Looks like R3 (corporations) will require the most studying. On to R5. Done with Tim Gearty forever.

smp73MemberTo everyone who is feeling a little down or discouraged with studying you can absolutely do this. I know you can. You have given me so much encouragement and I want to do the same for you. Re-write those NINJA notes, listen to the audio. Do MC until you want to puke. It may not be easy but I know each and everyone of you can do this. You are all bigger than this test and can beat it with flying colors!

Nevergiveup2012MemberHi guys, I need your help with R3 sims tab#1. It's about depreciation and Section 179.
Equipment were placed in service , total cost $ 60,000 , life: 7 yrs. Section 179 in the amount of $25,000 was elected.
The question is year 1 Depreciation Expense.
The part that tricks me is the fact that the taxpayer had a net loss before depreciation expense. My understanding is that Section 179 is not allowed if it creates a net loss. yet, Becker's answer of the calculation is as follows:
(Cost – Section 179 expense) X Depreciation % based on the MACRS table. The basis is reduced by section 179 allowance.
(60,000-25000) X 10.71% = $3,749
Am I missing something here or Becker screwed up on this question? please help me understand.
BEC - 86 (8/31/12)
AUD - 97 (11/18/12)
REG - 83 (5/12/13)
FAR - 91 (12/2/13)
Done!!!April 18, 2013 at 7:44 pm #415330
N. AlexMember@ Nevergiveup2012
The asset is “combine”
Which means that the elected section 179 for one asset and MACRS for the rest
MACRS is allowed even at losses, so you have to deduct the 25k from 60K and treat the balance (35K) as MACR depreciable property
The 25k is carried forward and deductible in year 2 when profit occurs
I hope that helps
