smp73MemberThanks guys. I will give it my best shot. Luckily it is a morning exam, I am a morning person and it does not give me time to “think” about the last two days. I did practice questions early this morning before I had to be places. I have my own “Review” notes that I am going to read through tonight and skim through the NINJA notes and pray. Pray that I have it in me to do this tomorrow and that my family can weather this storm.
Today was hard but everytime someone mentioned LLC's or bankruptcy or estates my mind immediately went into CPA exam mode and I started rattling off everything I know.

AnonymousInactiveHi everyone, I have a question regarding DNI on page 56 of the Reg ninja notes. It states that “Estate beneficiaries pay tax on DNI, regardless if distributed. I am not seeing this in Becker, I also have the Wiley 2013 book and did not see the explanation for this. Can someone please explain why this is the case or point me to where it is explained in Wiley…I thought this would only be true if it was a pass-through entity like S Corp or P/S and I did not think an estate was.
Thanks very much and good luck on your exam smp73

ZaqParticipant@CPAExam2013: R4-24 of Becker:
“Income Distributed to the Beneficiaries
Income distributed to the beneficiaries (and reported on the K-1) retains the same character (e.g., tax exempt, portfolio, passive, etc.) as the income had at the fiduciary level (which is the same as occurs in partnership taxation).”
FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
AUD: 65, 91!?

AnonymousInactiveMaybe I'm just not using the word pass through correctly and confusing myself more and more. What I mean is that I'm reading the Ninja notes as the Estate is being taxed like a bank account (like how Becker describes partnerships etc.) since beneficiaries are taxed “regardless of distribution”. I get that the k-1 items retains its characteristics after it is “distributed” to the beneficiaries like Becker states on R4-24. I just thought that beneficiaries of Estates would only be taxed on distributions unless it is income in respect of a decedent (R2-32).

AnonymousInactiveOne week from today until REG for me. I likely won't check back into the forums until I've sat to respond to the experience post so good luck to those that are sitting and/or waiting for scores.
I'm in the middle of reworking the Becker set of MCQs for the 3rd time and I should have those finished up tomorrow. I completed rewriting the NINJA notes on Sunday.
For Friday through Tuesday (I'm off from work), I'm just going to read the NINJA notes 2x daily and do 200 MCQ Becker progress tests and 200 MCQ Wiley progress tests. I'll probably spend a few hours one of those days looking over SIMS. I also need a little more work on the Corp Taxation as that continues to be my weak area.
Though, I wish I could have moved the test up to this week but I couldn't find an 8am appointment and didn't really want to pay the fee. It's going to be rough waiting a month for the score but oh well.
I think I'll take a week off after REG and then it will be right onto FAR for a 07/12 exam date.
Later all.

smp73MemberWell it's done. Not the worst exam I have ever taken but certainly not the best. I have no idea how I did. No gut sinking feeling that I failed it but I do not know if I passed. I would not be surprised either way. I chose a different test center this time and the staff there were super nice, I finally had a chair that adjusted so my feet touched the ground and there were no other distractions during the test. So that was good. Time will tell…but boy after little to no sleep the last two nights and the stress of this situation I am exhausted. Time for a nap.

MCLKTParticipantSMP – YOU DID IT! Congratulations on getting through the exam. You have the strength of steel. I know you have been strong for your family and to get through the test today, and that is very admirable. Now it's time to take some you time. Be weak if you need to be, let yourself just… be. ((hugs))
As for REG… I am so lost. I need to really focus on some key areas and I don't know what is most important. I'm thinking Corp. Tax and Prof. Responsibilities. I hope if I can master these two topics this week I will gain confidence for the rest. What areas/concepts are you all putting the most emphasis on in your studies?

smp73MemberThanks MCLKT. It was an experience.
As far as what I focused on I spent a fair amount of time on Corporate Tax and the Securities Law ('33 and '34) in my final few days. In general I took a few topics a week to “master” and it slowly built confidence. I have no idea how I did today but I knew before I got the call that I felt prepared. Whether I was clear headed enough today or not is yet to be told but that approach gave me a lot of confidence.
You can do it. Pick a few things to focus on this week and when you start rocking out on the MC you will gain a ton of confidence. 🙂 You got this!
